The Selangor Labour Department is investigating claims of unpaid wages and other forced labour
00:07
indicators by a group of Bangladeshi workers at a factory in Klang that supplies components
00:12
to major electronics companies.
00:15
In an email to the company and its major customers, migrant rights activist Andy Hall shared a
00:20
report based on interviews with seven workers, which details their allegations of forced
00:25
labour.
00:26
The report claims that the workers have not been paid for up to six months, causing them
00:30
and their families severe distress.
00:34
They also allegedly paid exorbitant recruitment fees through loans, worsening their financial
00:39
difficulties.
00:40
According to the report, the workers are forced to work seven days a week, including public
00:45
holidays, without overtime pay.
00:48
The report also claimed that the workers lived in overcrowded dormitories, with many sharing
00:53
a single room.
00:54
It also said the toilet facilities provided were unhygienic, worsening their poor living
00:58
conditions.
00:59
A source from the Human Resources Ministry told FMT that the Selangor Labour Department
01:05
is investigating the claims, while another source said the department is preparing a
01:09
report on the workers' alleged mistreatment.
01:11
FMT has reached out to the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur for comment, and
01:16
is withholding the company's name pending a response.
