00:00The Selangor Labour Department is investigating claims of unpaid wages and other forced labour

00:07indicators by a group of Bangladeshi workers at a factory in Klang that supplies components

00:12to major electronics companies.

00:15In an email to the company and its major customers, migrant rights activist Andy Hall shared a

00:20report based on interviews with seven workers, which details their allegations of forced

00:25labour.

00:26The report claims that the workers have not been paid for up to six months, causing them

00:30and their families severe distress.

00:34They also allegedly paid exorbitant recruitment fees through loans, worsening their financial

00:39difficulties.

00:40According to the report, the workers are forced to work seven days a week, including public

00:45holidays, without overtime pay.

00:48The report also claimed that the workers lived in overcrowded dormitories, with many sharing

00:53a single room.

00:54It also said the toilet facilities provided were unhygienic, worsening their poor living

00:58conditions.

00:59A source from the Human Resources Ministry told FMT that the Selangor Labour Department

01:05is investigating the claims, while another source said the department is preparing a

01:09report on the workers' alleged mistreatment.

01:11FMT has reached out to the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur for comment, and

01:16is withholding the company's name pending a response.
