00:13Santiago said the existing document needs to be rewritten to outline clear rules regarding

00:18the treatment and mobility of migrant workers.

00:21He said the new agreement should also incorporate the Employer Pays Principle, which requires

00:26employers to bear the workers' flight tickets and recruitment fees.

00:31Santiago said several large firms in Malaysia had already adopted this policy to keep workers

00:36from being forced to pay for their recruitment and passage to Malaysia.

00:41He also said the revised agreement should include a mechanism that would allow migrant

00:45workers to put aside a portion of their earnings as savings.

00:50Last week, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia would prioritise taking in Bangladeshis

00:55who lost the opportunity to seek work due to political turmoil in their home country.
