00:00TikTok has confirmed reports of layoffs in Malaysia as part of a global workforce reduction.

00:08The company said several hundred people will be impacted globally by the layoffs.

00:13A spokesman from TikTok said the decision aligns with the company's ongoing efforts

00:20They said 80% of TikTok's violative content has been removed by automated technologies,

00:26while the company is expected to invest US$2 billion in trust and safety this year.

00:32Reuters reported today that TikTok's Malaysia branch had terminated more than 700 employees,

00:38with most of them working in content moderation.

00:41In May, CNN reported that TikTok was planning to reduce a significant portion of its global

00:46operations and marketing workforce.

00:50In June, Bloomberg reported that TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, laid off 450 staff

00:56at its Indonesian unit.
