00:00And what you have done over the last month is to reinforce that reality that TNTEC is
00:06a model utility company that is second to none in the entire Caribbean and I dare say
00:13the entire Western Hemisphere.
00:15The boast made by Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzalez during a ceremony in recognition
00:20of the role a team from TNTEC, the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission, played
00:26in helping to restore electricity in one island belonging to Grenada following the
00:32passage of Hurricane Beryl.
00:34However, the Public Utilities Minister at first identified that island by the name of
00:39another Caribbean island which belongs to the Netherlands.
00:43Just one month and a significant part of the island of Curacao, Cariocu, sorry, that's
00:51a big mistake, Cariocu.
00:55To restore the electricity.
00:57Not very recently I was reading in the newspapers that I think Puerto Rico suffered some devastation
01:08and over one month, significant parts of that island, there's no power.
01:18Minister Gonzalez then highlighted the work carried out by the TNTEC team in comparison
01:22to the delay in the restoration of electricity supply to affected parts of Puerto Rico.
01:30They are part of the greatest superpower on earth, the United States of America.
01:39And months after the passage of extreme weather, they are struggling to restore electricity
01:47to the island.
01:49And I'm saying that to compare what we have done in Trinidad and Tobago, what we have
01:54done in another Caribbean island.
01:58Minister Gonzalez said the TNTEC team should be commended for their work.
02:03Perhaps I should send you to Puerto Rico and show them how it is done.
02:14Show them how it is done, alright?
02:16Because too often in Trinidad and Tobago we are going to celebrate independence on Saturday.
02:24And if you listen to the conversation in Trinidad and Tobago, you will believe that every single
02:29thing that happened here is wrong.
02:33It is as though we refuse to recognize our strengths.
02:40Minister Gonzalez said the work the TNTEC team did in helping brothers and sisters in
02:45CARICOM is something that will remain with him even when he is no longer Minister of
02:51Public Utilities.
