01:38Roger also called for the current version of TNTEC's apprenticeship program to end and for a proper program to be put in place.
01:46He said it takes one year to train a C-class linesman, but TNTEC is training linesmen in six and three months.
01:53He makes it clear that the union is not against extending the apprenticeship program.
01:58What we are against is the exploitation of those people who are brought into the program.
02:03And therefore we demand that they bring to an end that hodgepodge crash six months program,
02:12which really does, three and six months program, which really does not fit the bill
02:17and ensure that those persons have a proper, a well-rounded and a comprehensive apprenticeship program.
02:25Roger went on to hail the TNTEC's employees as one of the best groups of workers in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean,
02:32explaining why he makes the call for a better apprenticeship program.
02:35Which is why we are saying don't compromise that with the level of training of apprentices and so on in that program.
02:44He also said TNTEC is one of the best and most efficient performing public utilities here and in the region.
