00:00Is it that we are seeing that TNTEC will shut down Tobago?
00:06We can't say that we will shut down Tobago, but if the mismanagement continues and the
00:12don't care and laissez-faire attitude from the management continues, then eventually
00:16probably that would happen, but it would not be on the back of the workers.
00:19Mr Cordner said these long-standing issues of wage negotiations, a lack of manpower and
00:26vehicles in need of repair, need to be addressed, as a poor supply of electricity can be the
00:33end result.
00:34These issues have been asked to be met by the management on several occasions, and it's
00:41always, I don't know, or I'll see what I can do.
00:44So this morning we came out here to let the public know this is happening, because as
00:48a result of these issues that I'm speaking of, we can end up with a poor supply of electricity.
00:54Cordner said TNTEC needs to return to the negotiating table, as there has been a stalemate
01:01in talks for the period 2015-2017 for over five months.
01:06What are you calling really on the authorities to do in terms of how long these negotiations
01:12have been stalled?
01:13Like, immediately, what do you want to see the authorities do?
01:17Keep meetings and make an offer.
01:19We have not been offered even zero to date.
01:25And roughly how many workers are affected?
01:27Two thousand plus.
01:30How many more workers are needed, because you said there's also a manpower shortage.
01:35What are some of the vacancies at this time?
01:38We need more field workers, for sure.
01:40And also, we need a proper fleet of vehicles.
01:44The vehicles we have are very old, and they keep breaking down.
01:48Sometimes you call in a report, and when you find that the crews aren't coming, that's
01:52as a result of vehicles.
01:54TNTEC workers in Tobago protested outside their head office in Scarborough on Friday.
