00:00Hi, I'm Theo with Manchester World. Today, I'm out in Manchester asking people their opinions on mobile phones.
00:05Now, young people have more and more access to smartphones,
00:08and we want to know if people think that's a good thing or a bad thing, and what protections they'd like to see put in place.
00:13So many kids are just addicted, and they've got so much access to things that they shouldn't have access to.
00:17Maybe some kind of regulation on making sure, you know, under-13s aren't getting Facebook accounts and stuff.
00:24I would suggest take away their phones in general. Give them, like, Nokia bricks.
00:28I have friends who have kids, and they're, like, four years old, and they can use iPads and stuff.
00:31And, like, when I was four years old, I could definitely not use an iPad.
00:34Stuff that they're exposed to on social media, you know, all this, like, negativity and all this body image, and it's just not right.
00:43I've got an 11-year-old, and actually this really resonates with me, because he is the last one in his class to get a phone for Christmas this year.
00:50And everyone had them when they were, like, eight, and I'm trying to get that across to him.
00:53I think there's massive mental health issues around the use of smartphones and things now,
00:57and I think it needs to be talked about more.
