00:00Alright, hi people, it's Chase here, and we're here to do an unboxing of PSA for Digimon
00:05Digital Monsters Season 2, aka Digimon Adventure 02.
00:09So yeah, it recently came out from DiscoTech, and they used a similar remastering technique,
00:20or actually no, the same remastering technique that they used for Season 1 of the English
00:27version, and the original Japanese cut.
00:32So yeah, basically why this took so long, after the first season was released both in
00:40English and Japanese, is because they had the DVD masters that they were given, unlike
00:46Season 1, for Season 2, the DVD masters that were previously used on the Cinedyme DVDs
00:56were deemed very low resolution, or just in poor quality.
01:01So the, what is it, AutoRes or something like that, whatever the thing is that they have,
01:08the AI upscaling that they, or software that they use, could not properly remaster the
01:15series into HD.
01:17That being getting rid of the rainbowing, upscaling the footage to a good quality, focusing
01:25a bunch of things that were out of focus and everything, and whatever.
01:28So what they did was they got the Japanese masters for the series, and had to recut all
01:36of that footage to the English dub.
01:39This means cutting things that were cut for time out of the stuff, probably rearranging
01:43some scenes, I'm not sure though, I don't think so, and on top of that they had to do
01:49a mix of upscaling stuff that was in the English version where Saban, the Saban people, or
01:58the people at Saban that were dubbing the series either translated stuff into English,
02:02like text on screen, or other stuff that was specifically in the English version of the
02:09show.
02:10They had to basically recreate those elements if they couldn't properly upscale and splice
02:15in what was originally there in the English masters, and yeah, they had to do a good amount
02:21of work and recut everything as best they could to the English dub track.
02:28So yeah, so that's what they did, yeah, they just basically did that.
02:35So that's why it took so long to come out on Blu-ray over here in the States.
02:40And at some point, I'm assuming later this year, they are going to release the Japanese
02:45version of the show or the season on Blu-ray as well.
02:51They're also working on a Blu-ray release of not only Digimon the Movie, but also all
02:58three movies that were recut into Digimon the Movie, so yeah, from Japan.
03:06They dubbed them into English with as many of the original cast members as they could
03:11get, as well as probably new voice actors as well that filled in for the originals that
03:18were not available or passed away or something like that, so yeah.
03:23So that's going to be very cool to get all those on Blu-ray in HD later this year, just
03:31without the Angela Anaconda short, which I'm, if I'm going to be completely honest, Angela
03:35Anaconda does not matter.
03:38I know some people would love it to be on there, but licensing issues with I think the
03:42rights holders of that shit just couldn't make that possible.
03:46So you're just going to have to download that from online.
03:49They would have put it on, they would put it on there if they could work it out, but
03:52they couldn't, so yeah.
03:54Funnily enough, Digimon the Movie has a bunch of licensed music from the late 90s that,
04:02you know, I guess they could work out the licensing for, but, you know, not Angela Anaconda,
04:08that's funny to me, but yeah.
04:10But enough talk, let's get to this.
04:14So on the front you have the Digimon Digital Monsters logo, you have Davis and V-Mon, as
04:19well as his Digivice and everything.
04:22English language version, Episodes 1-50, Season 2, and all this stuff.
04:27So yeah, they basically, this is from, the picture of Davis and V-Mon are from one of
04:33the volumes of the show from Japan from the original DVDs, and basically they chose it
04:40to go along with the picture of Tai and Agumon from their previous release.
04:47So that's actually really cool.
04:48And Toei sent them an upscaled version of that so they could properly use it.
04:52And also one of the things that held this up was getting the OK for the artwork as well,
04:57so yeah, from Toei, so yeah.
05:01So on the side here, you got them again, and Digimon Digital Monsters Season 2, and all
05:07that, all the information.
05:11Same stuff on the other side, and on the back, they're going completely digital, and a description
05:18of the season.
05:19Got some screenshots as well, some of the Digimon with V-Mon, Wormmon, Armadillomon,
05:25and Hawkmon.
05:26So yeah, features all new, restoration in HD, production art galleries and everything.
05:34And what's also really cool is that some of the stuff that was cut from later TV airings
05:38I believe, as well as the DVD releases, that I guess they didn't have any of the audio
05:43masters for, but they did have the original TV recordings, is they added back in certain
05:51things that were cut from those.
05:53Like there was an intro for the first episode that the visuals still exist for the Japanese
05:59cut of the show, but they didn't have the audio masters for from where they got them.
06:04So luckily though, they had TV recordings that they then spliced in that audio under
06:11the visuals, and completely restored those.
06:16So this is basically the ultimate version of the English version of the show that you
06:20could get.
06:21So if you're a fan of this show specifically, this season, this is the definitive version.
06:28So yeah.
06:29Video, 1.33x1, 4x3, 1080p HD, audio, English linear, PCM 2.0, subtitles, English coast
06:37captions, 50 episodes on 4 discs, 1050 minutes unrated, and yeah, it's Region A, so yeah.
06:50So here we go, and as you can see, the artwork here matches this artwork pretty well with
07:01the placements of the characters, for the most part.
07:06So, yeah.
07:12So, yeah.
07:14And just have the same stuff, although these are different.
07:18Okay, yeah, different screenshots on the back here.
07:22So yeah.
07:24And just like the first season, if you rather the artwork for the Blu-ray case match, you
07:33can easily just flip this over, and it'll match.
07:37So I'm imagining just like the first season, the Japanese version is going to have it flipped,
07:43where the slipcase, or slipcover, is going to be this, but with the Japanese stuff all
07:54over it, and then the reversible artwork is going to be the same as this slipcover.
08:02So yeah.
08:04So you got Disc 1 with Davison Vemon, Disc 2 with Digimon Emperor, aka Ken and Wormmon,
08:11Yolei and Hawkmon on Disc 3, and Cody and Armadillomon on Disc 4.
08:18Each disc has about anywhere between, like, I guess 10?
08:22Or no.
08:24I guess, oh, 12.
08:26Okay, so 12 episodes per disc, I guess, or close to.
08:30So, yeah.
08:32And then something I did not show, Spines are in pretty good sync on these.
08:40So yeah.
08:42So that's actually pretty good.
08:44So yeah.
08:46So, yeah.
08:48So not really much else to say.
08:50So, links in the description of all my shit, subscribe if you want, and I'll see you guys
08:52in the next one.
