Police have made two arrests following the discovery of a woman’s body in Melbourne’s Maribyrnong River. A 49-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy were arrested in connection to the body found in the river in the city’s inner west. The young boy has since been interviewed and released, while the woman’s charges have now been laid.

00:11A man's body was discovered around 9 o'clock in the morning and then just an hour and a
00:15half later and only 800 metres away a passerby made the grim discovery of a woman's body.
00:22Now police say that those two discoveries are not linked but in relation to the discovery
00:27of the woman's body, homicide squad detectives have arrested a 49 year old woman and a 15
00:33year old boy from West Footscray in Melbourne's western suburbs.
00:37The teenager has been released without charge but detectives have charged the woman with
00:43murder and she's been remanded in custody to face the Melbourne Magistrates Court at
00:48some stage today.
00:50Now in relation to their investigation they are asking anybody with CCTV or dash cam footage
00:56from Glamis Road in West Footscray as well as from the Smithfield Road Flemington area
01:03around Lynch's Bridge to get in contact with them and also if anybody saw anybody acting
01:09suspiciously around those areas between Friday afternoon and Sunday morning.
01:16Now in relation to the man's body's discovery they say that his death is not being treated
01:22as suspicious at this stage, however both of these bodies have yet to be formally identified.
01:30Homicide squad detectives say that it's understood that the 49 year old woman and the 15 year
01:35old boy were known to this deceased woman and they want anybody with any further information
01:42to contact them.
