00:00An embattled solar energy project seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.
00:07The principal environmental approval is an absolutely huge milestone for the project.
00:13It enables the project to progress.
00:16The SunCable project today received a green tick for its project near Elliot to build
00:21a 12,000 hectare solar farm to help power Darwin and then Singapore.
00:28SunCable bullish about the prospect that their big idea could soon become a reality.
00:34We are one of the largest projects under development in the world and the supply of this green
00:39electricity to customers in Middle Arm and Singapore is, you know, it's world leading.
00:44One of SunCable's customers in the Middle Arm industrial precinct has drawn criticism
00:49for the potential use of petrochemicals in its operations.
00:53The government today rubbishing claims that SunCable is greenwashing.
00:58We will make sure that all proponents, whether they're at Middle Arm or in Tennant Creek
01:02or in Alice Springs, all go through the right processes as has SunCable. I completely reject
01:07that assertion that we're greenwashing.
01:10SunCable still has a number of hurdles to overcome, among them garnering enough financial
01:15support to actually get their project off the ground. Meanwhile, another project is
01:20taking off.
01:21The Arnhem Space Centre hoping to expand its operations after successful rocket launches
01:27in 2022, but the Labor government believes creating an additional 14 launch pads is crucial
01:33to the NT's economic future.
01:36It's exciting to see, but they've got to make sure that they do this right and that they
01:40address any environmental concerns that might come up during that process.
