A French sailor has died following an incident on the Hobart waterfront early this morning. Police divers found the man’s body about four hours after he jumped into the water from the Antarctic research vessel he was working on.

00:31Police say the man was with other crew members at about four o'clock this morning when it's
00:36believed he jumped from one of the ship's masts into the water.
00:39Early indications that there may have been some alcohol involved, but that will form part
00:44of our investigation.
00:45The man's crewmates contacted police when they couldn't find him.
00:49Police divers found the man's body just before eight o'clock.
00:53The crew arrived in Hobart a week ago and was due to fly to Melbourne today.
00:58Police say they are very distressed by the incident.
