00:00Skeens, of course, opened now at BetMGM, he opened at 125 to 1 to win the Cy Young.
00:10I know there are some shops he was 200 to 1 at some point.
00:15He is now, actually, that says 10.
00:17I'll even go a little bit further to you, Scotty, when I put up the next board.
00:22He has actually gotten to 9 to 1 now to win the Cy Young.
00:27So Skeens has gone from anywhere from 125 to 200 all the way down to 9 to 1 and is the
00:34third choice at BetMGM.
00:37Sales 125, Wheelers 150, and Skeens at 9 are the top three for the National League right
00:44now on the odds board.
00:45Well, we'll see how Wheeler's back holds up in August and September into the playoffs.
00:53If he does nothing in August and September, he won't win the Cy Young.
00:57I'll say that Skeens will pass him in short order.
01:01What do you like?
01:02The weight of a guy that's 12 and 3 with a low 2ERA or do you like a guy that's undefeated
01:086 and 0 with a low 2ERA that strikes out 10 guys every time he pitches?
01:14I am telling you, this is going to be a two-horse race.
01:18This is sale against Skeens the rest of the way.
01:21His power move is getting the nod to start the all-star game.
01:25That will help him with Cy Young vote getters, right?
01:30They're going to be out there realizing, seeing this is a guy that is taking over Major League
01:37Baseball as we speak.
01:39People have already been down the Chris Sale road.
01:43They've already seen this guy throw in televisions and everything else, have all of his injuries.
01:49I think Sale's been unbelievable.
01:51I love betting on him.
01:52I hit him in Arizona the other night.
01:54I'll bet on him on Sunday.
01:56I still feel, Mike, that Paul Skeens can not only, well, he'll win the rookie of the year.
02:03That's already over.
02:04He can win, and he's already got the all-star start, he can win the Cy Young if he keeps
02:08doing this.
02:09I don't see why he can't keep doing it.
02:12You know why?
02:13Because he is a dominant stud pitcher, and they only come around once every, I'd say
02:20a dozen years, a real dominant pitcher.
02:24I will tell you this, there is only one thing that can stop him, in my opinion, from winning
02:29the Cy Young.
02:30Is it that lineup?
02:31No.
02:32The lineup's got nothing to do with it.
02:33It's the organization, the Pirates.
02:36They are the only ones who will keep him from winning the Cy Young this year.
02:40I'll tell you right now, if he makes every start between now and the end of the season,
02:45he will win the Cy Young in the National League.
02:47If he is allowed to continue to pitch the rest of the year, and he makes all his starts
02:52all the way through September, he will win the award.
02:55I'll tell you that right now.
02:56But you think they're going to pull him?
02:58My fear is we get to Labor Day, the Pirates fall to seven or eight back of the wild card,
03:08and the organization goes, it's been a great first year.
03:12We don't want to risk anything.
03:14We're going to shut him down for the rest of the year.
03:18That will cost him.
03:19If he pitches the whole year, he'll win.
03:21You're right.
03:22There's no doubt you're right.
03:23The problem I have with that type of thinking is they're two and a half out of the last
03:28wild card right now.
03:30They were four and a half out like two days ago.
03:34So they are in it.
03:36They are in it.
03:37And if you're going to go make moves, and you're going to get a guy like Ward or whoever,
03:43and you're going for it, then you got to pitch this guy every five days.
03:48You didn't draft him to stop playing baseball at Labor Day.
03:53He is an absolute monster.
03:55I see your thinking.
03:57I think you're probably right.
03:58That's what they're going to do.
03:59And I think that they'll rue the day they did it if they're still in it.
04:03If they're in it on Labor Day, a game or two out of the wild card, they got to keep going
04:06with him.
04:07Well, let me and I'll say this, too.
04:10I could see them doing it even if they were still in the wild card race.
04:13You're a fan of that organization.
04:14You have been a pirate fan.
04:15You have been a pirate fan your entire life.
04:16You have rooted for that organization.
04:23Would it stun you if even if they were where they are right now, two or three back in the
04:27wild card, they got to September 1st and they organizationally got together and said, he's
04:32thrown more pitches than he's ever thrown in his whole life.
04:35We're not going to pitch him anymore this year.
04:37We're shutting him down.
04:38We'll see you in spring training in Bradenton.
04:41Would it stun you?
04:42No.
04:43Listen, it wouldn't.
04:44They were.
04:45Look, they were smart enough to draft him.
04:49OK, so I am not going to sit here and everyone bashes, nutting and in Charrington.
04:56That's all they ever do.
04:57They get bashed in Pittsburgh like no end.
05:00It's the same core of people that hate Mike Tomlin.
05:04Every time they lose a game, they want him fired when they don't win in the playoffs.
05:08They want him fired.
05:10He's one in one in Super Bowls, right?
05:12He's never had a losing season.
05:14The Roonies don't fire coaches that win.
05:17That's all there is to it.
05:18And, you know, they they haven't had playoff luck.
05:21It's easier said than done winning in the NFL playoffs.
05:24Carver High knows all about it with the Buffalo Bills, believe me.
05:28My point is, is the pirates get bashed, their ownership gets bashed, their GM gets bashed.
05:34They don't know what they're doing.
05:35Well, at least they drafted him and I'll give them this.
05:39I don't think they're the smartest bunch of people I've ever been around in my life that
05:43I've ever seen or followed or watched or had to root for, but they got him now.
05:49For me, the key is don't screw it up.
05:52Don't F it up.
05:53So whatever it takes to keep this guy on the mound and his arm on his body, that's what
05:58I'm in favor of, including religious reasons.
06:01If we got to go light a candle every week, I'll do that too.
06:05Carver High.
06:06Lastly, I just want to say like and I just said this to you in the break.
06:09I want to say it to the fans and viewers and listeners.
06:14This guy's so good.
06:15He's like having Roberto Clemente or Barry Bonds.
06:19When they had those guys, you have to understand they were out of this world, like in terms
06:27of talent, like watching Roberto Clemente play every day was like watching Joe DiMaggio
06:33play.
06:34Watching Barry Bonds was like watching Willie Mays.
06:38That's just all there is to it.
06:40This guy is that good.
06:43Like literally, I don't care.
06:45I mean, I love the pirates and I care every day what they do.
06:49But I really don't care the four other days he's not pitching.
06:53Like the day he pitches is schemes day.
06:57It is time to focus on the pirate game no matter what.
07:00Every time he pitches, I watch.
07:02And when they play their other games, I care, but I don't care if I watch, you know what
07:08I mean?
07:09Like I'll watch it.
07:10I'll I'll I'll do other things.
07:11This and that.
07:12When that guy's pitching, I watch the entire game and watch him work his craft.
07:17He is like having, you know, it's like having Whitey Ford.
07:23I mean, honestly, people can laugh all they want.
07:25This guy has come into Major League Baseball and utterly humiliated Major League hitters
07:31at every level, every single game, every single game, everything about it, doesn't matter
07:36who it is.
07:37He's made them all look bad.
07:39And that means he's great.
07:41He's one of a kind.
07:43He's been outstanding.
07:44That's for sure.
07:45For all-star notes, Simeon will start for Jose Altuve at second base at the all-star
07:51game.
07:52That's because Altuve is not going to play.
07:53Will Castro from the Twins will take Altuve's place on the roster.
07:57Santander will replace Kyle Tucker, who's been on the I.L. for weeks on the I.L. roster.
08:02Max Scherzer says he will not waive his trade clause at the deadline.
08:06He says, no, no, no, I'm staying in Texas.
08:09You're not moving me.
08:10And more teams are getting in on the Jazz Chisholm sweepstakes, Scotty.
08:14We said the Phillies yesterday.
08:16The Yankees and the Mariners are also in the mix for Jazz, who hit a home run last night
08:22for the Marlins, by the way, a deep shot into the right-field seats.
08:26So he's starting to get very hot himself.
08:28I wanted to give you this because I know this really hasn't been on our radar.
08:33Did you know that this weekend is also the Major League Baseball draft, where, of course,
08:38last year, the guy we've been talking about, Paul Skeens, went number one?
08:42Well, this year, Scotty, the Guardians were the winners of the draft lottery back in December.
08:49So the MLB does the draft lottery now, as you know.
08:52Guardians moved up nine spots to get the top pick, where Travis Bozana is the favorite,
08:59minus 140 to go first.
09:01He is a second baseman.
09:03J.J. Weatherholt, plus 165, and on and on and on.
09:06I'll tell you this, Scotty.
09:09Last year, we knew, weeks before the draft, that Skeens was going to be the top pick, right?
09:14I mean, Skeens, you knew.
09:16I just feel like this year, none of these guys have as much gas as some guys we've heard
09:21about in the past for the top pick.
09:23How about running out of gas on the side of the road?
09:26I've never heard of any of them, and that makes me a loser, and I'm OK with that.
09:31You knew the buildup for Skeens, what was going to happen.
09:34There is no such thing going on this year with the draft this weekend.
09:39In fact, literally, that's the first I've heard of it, that you told me the draft was
09:43this weekend.
09:44I mean, honestly, because all I care about is England and Spain, Argentina and Colombia.
09:50I had no clue that was happening.
09:53The only reason the NHL draft at the end of June was exciting at all was that it was at
09:58the Sphere.
09:59Other than that, no one would have cared about that either.
10:03Nobody would have cared about that either.
10:04You're absolutely right about that.
10:06So that takes place.
10:08They have now tied the draft into All-Star weekend, which is why that is going on this
10:14week.
10:15So good luck and God bless to all the kids who will be involved.
10:17All right.
10:18Where is it?
10:19Are they having it in Arlington?
10:20Are they having it down in Texas?
10:22Yes, that's where they're having it.
10:24I guess some of the kids will show up and get the jersey.
10:29I guess the MLB is starting to do that.
10:33Everyone wants to be like the NFL now with their draft in the NHL.
10:37Now we have the NBA doing two nights, Major League Baseball split it up into a bunch of
10:40nights.
10:41But they do a lot of rounds.
10:44Baseball has a lot of rounds.
10:46The NBA two night was terrible.
10:49It was terrible.
10:50The second day was at 4 o'clock and that's all you need to know that they don't care.
10:55They're going to change that.
10:56They tried to be the NFL and they swung and missed.
11:00Starting at 4 o'clock on the second day is like a nightmare.
11:03What a stupid move that was.
11:06They did that because of the presidential debate.
11:08Silver says next year it will be in prime time.
11:11The second round will be at 8 o'clock at night.
11:13How did that debate go?
11:14That was the abortion of the century, that debate.
11:17It was the worst thing that ever happened to America.
