Two 16 year old boys of the Harmons School of SDA were allegedly evicted from their school graduation at the Rovanel's Resort on Monday night and police called in...because of what the school said was a breach of the rules for hair styles for those attending the prom ...
Parents of the two students told TV6 News they are looking at their legal options in the matter. More in this Elizabeth Williams report
00:00One of the most hurtful things about this, these are the same two boys, any function they have, they will go and help them.
00:07Every Saturday my son will say, Dad, come and drop me, I have to go and usher for them.
00:11Dad, come and drop me, I have to usher. They are so helpful to the school and yet still they were treated like this.
00:16And I say they were abused and assaulted because they were held by the hand and dragged out of the ballroom.
00:26Mr. Edwards said the school stated the plaiting of the boy's hair was not allowed and since the rule was broken they were removed from the venue.
00:36The police were called to the Ravenel's Resort following the eviction of the students.
00:41They said he was not allowed to plait his hair and from my understanding if the rules are one way they should be across the board.
00:49So the ladies were supposed to dress modestly and from what I saw it was not all that modest but they were also allowed inside.
00:57It was only two of them that was not allowed because of their hairstyle.
01:02According to the consent form circulated by the Harmon's School of Seventh Day Adventists,
01:08boys were to dress smart, long pants, avoid any fancy marks and patterns that distract.
01:15Young ladies were expected to dress modestly, no cleavage, breast showing, no brightly colored hair, no jewelry, only natural makeup.
01:25Mr. Edwards said the incident was reported to police.
01:29Well I have not went to the Division of Education but I have went to the station and made a report of the assault and then I took him to the hospital for his medical.
01:38The family is now looking at their legal options.
01:41Do you intend on taking legal action in the matter?
01:44Yes I do. I intend to go as far as possible but I can go because this I know scarred my son for life.
01:52The very next day he didn't eat for the day, he didn't speak for the day and I was like I know the pain he is feeling and that hurts me.
02:01Parent Avian Ferdinand whose son was also physically removed from the ballroom at Ravinell's resort on Monday night also reported the matter to police.
02:12I had to make a report last night because he said a person who was in attendance at the dinner who is not even a teacher would have physically moved him,
02:25like grab him by his hand and drag him out of the dining hall.
02:29So the matter was reported to police.
02:32President of the Tobago Conference of Seventh Day Adventists Pastor Vishnu Posad when contacted told the TV6 News the matter is being investigated.
02:42It was brought to our attention that there was an incident at the prom and so the details are not really clear to us as yet because we didn't attend the prom.
02:57So we have initiated an investigation to get a comprehensive view of what happened that night.
