00:00This is Holly Randall's podcast, talking shit.
00:28That was great.
00:29I'm going to have you do all my intros from now on.
00:32Everybody in case you didn't know, that is Romi Reign.
00:35She is here on my podcast.
00:37Thank you for having me.
00:38It is so exciting to have you.
00:41Stop.
00:42It is.
00:43You know how people were so happy on social media that I was having you on?
00:45Oh yeah, I saw that.
00:46People were really excited.
00:47I love when people are excited.
00:48Like that's how you know.
00:49It's great.
00:50Sometimes, you know, I say that I'm having certain people on and get like crickets.
00:54Oh really?
00:55Yeah.
00:56And then some people are like, oh my God, they get so excited.
01:00I mean, I try to, you know, ensure that everybody that I have on is somebody who's interesting.
01:03And sometimes like the most interesting people are not necessarily the most famous people.
01:06No, it's true.
01:07And you never really know like what somebody has to say.
01:10Like, you know.
01:11Yeah.
01:12No, you don't know.
01:13Yeah.
01:14I believe me.
01:15I've had people on and I like thought they were going to be great and they weren't.
01:16No pressure.
01:17Hey, that's the thing too.
01:18Like, you know, everybody's version of great is different, what they want to hear and who
01:23they are.
01:24Yeah, definitely.
01:25Some of my like episodes that I were my least favorite, I've had some people tell me they
01:29were their favorites.
01:30Yeah.
01:31It can be like seen sometimes too.
01:32You hear it's like, but, you know, I like interviews and, you know, if anything, sometimes
01:38I talk almost a little bit too much.
01:40So I give a good interview from what I hear.
01:43This is good.
01:44We want people who talk a lot, you know, and are honest.
01:48Yeah.
01:49And some people that fans request, I'm like, I just know like she may be a great performer,
01:54but I know she's not a good conversationalist.
01:57Like I know the podcast isn't so I won't get them because it's just like, it has to
02:01be more about than what you look like.
02:03And a lot of people like they find a little bit of like pressure in that or like to be
02:07honest, it was almost kind of what we were talking about a little bit is that, you know,
02:11some people feel the need to like play a character a lot and like it is a great time to like
02:15be yourself.
02:16It's kind of it is different kind of when I first started, like when I first started,
02:19it wasn't considered very cool to give like a normal interview, like two people talking
02:23like this, especially when you're in a like you're a porn star or whatever, because like
02:28they would always want it to be a little bit too caricature and too sexy.
02:31So you would see a lot of interviews with girls and they'd be like, hey, so what do
02:35you like to do for fun?
02:36And they're like, come.
02:37And it's like, well, what do you like to do when you're not shooting porn?
02:40I don't know.
02:41Come.
02:42You know what I mean?
02:43And it's like, it's no insult and no dig and no burn or anything, but it's kind of true.
02:48It's like, it's okay to like, you know, be in porn and be sexual and have a personality
02:51and have opinions on things and to be a strong, confident woman.
02:55Like it's great to like come, but it shouldn't be like your entire personality.
02:59Yeah.
03:00I think some girls feel that they really have to create a character.
03:02And I think sometimes it's hard for some people to separate their true self from their porn
03:06self and they want to create that separation because they really want to be able to separate
03:11their lives.
03:12And, you know, that's, that's their thing for sure.
03:14Just make sure you're doing and saying everything you believe because, you know, people will
03:19remember.
03:20And then, you know, you might.
03:21Especially these days.
03:22Exactly.
03:23You can't hide anything anymore.
03:24And like, and then eventually you might want to like have a serious conversation with somebody.
03:28Yeah.
03:29You know, it's important to establish your own levels of boundaries, I think.
03:31Yeah.
03:32And that's honestly like a big reason I really wanted to start this show because I know a
03:35lot of other podcasts are a little bit more salacious and it's like, you know, asking
03:40questions like, how many times a day do you masturbate?
03:42Yeah.
03:43As if we don't get asked those questions all the time.
03:45Exactly.
03:46And that's not what I'm interested in.
03:47What I'm interested in is getting to know you as people and getting to show the world
03:52that porn stars are people and that they're like intelligent and ambitious and funny and,
03:59you know, sometimes conflicted and all of those things that make us human, like, you
04:03know, that kind of dispelling the myth.
04:05And that's really what I wanted this podcast to be about was to be really real.
04:10And I've found that people have responded really, really well to that.
04:12And it's been a huge surprise for me.
04:14We were talking about that.
04:15Yeah.
04:16And it's something that I really love.
04:17And I've had so many people tell me that, like, I've changed their mind about how they
04:20see the adult industry, how they see porn stars, which is, to me, is just the greatest
04:24compliment.
04:25No, it is.
04:26And it's so incredibly valuable to, like, seize the opportunities to be a real person
04:31that you are and to express yourself because, like, now really is the time.
04:35And we were always this way, like adult entertainers and beyond.
04:38I always call them alternative lifestyles.
04:40Like I grew up in that environment, as I know we'll get to.
04:43But I've always been around people in the sidestep kind of world.
04:47And it's not nearly as seedy and underground and salacious as some people I think want
04:53it to be.
04:54There's, of course, bad situations and drugs and alcohol in every industry, if you only
04:59want to look at that.
05:00But some of the greatest people I've ever known are sex workers and drag queens and
05:06gay and bi and trans and not coming from big families.
05:12There's so many different kinds of beautiful people in the world.
05:14I think we judge way too harshly.
05:16But at the same time, you're right.
05:18People are so interested in finding out about people and the alternative lifestyles and
05:23to see if it's really real and what it's about because there's always...
05:28What's the word?
05:29People are always so attracted to this and they're obsessed with it and they want to
05:32know more.
05:33They really do.
05:34They want to know what's real and not real about it.
05:36But we are all just people and we try to separate ourselves so much.
05:41We're all connected.
05:42We really are.
05:44I don't know.
05:45I like that about the world now, that we really are so connected.
05:48Yeah.
05:49That's true.
05:50And I think also too with porn, especially people are fascinated with it because first
05:53of all, I think most people couldn't imagine doing that as a career, just something so
05:59foreign to them, especially since sex is such a taboo subject for so many people.
06:04And I think with most porn films, and I've seen it change dramatically, especially over
06:09this last year, you just see one side of performers.
06:13You see them as...
06:15They're not multifaceted.
06:16They're just sex fiends and that's it.
06:18So I think it's hard for a lot of people to imagine this person has hobbies on the side.
06:24This person might have a family.
06:26This person has people that they love.
06:27This person has fears and dreams and aspirations.
06:30And you never really see that side of performers.
06:35But I have noticed...
06:36I'm sure you have too.
06:37You've been in the industry about seven years, right?
06:40Yeah.
06:41Six years hardcore.
06:42Yeah.
06:43So you've seen...
06:44Have you noticed this incredible shift in porn storytelling and how we're really having
06:49these really intense scenarios and storylines coming out?
06:55It used to always be gonzo porn and if it was a storyline, it'd be really cheesy with
07:00terrible acting and all that kind of stuff.
07:02And I just feel like these last couple of years, we've just had some incredible directors
07:07and producers come in and porn actors really be able to shine and show.
07:12I mean, stuff doesn't look like real movies, these guys.
07:16It's so impressive to me.
07:18People are really taking initiative and caring more because we can, especially with the social
07:24media era.
07:25We really are able to show what we want to show and be a part of what we want to be a
07:28part of.
07:30And performers and independent contractors really do have more capabilities than ever
07:35to shine and to show who they really are and not just what maybe a company or a scene wants
07:40to push them as.
07:42Girls and boys and everybody in between can shoot what they want to shoot, how they want
07:46to shoot, and really kind of take advantage of their own image and promote themselves
07:51the way they want to be.
07:53In a way, the age, I don't want to say the age of the contract girl is over or anything,
07:58but how it was 15, 20 years ago.
08:00You really had to kind of be a cover girl or a contract girl or chosen, essentially,
08:07to kind of be popular and to be called a porn star or a big name nowadays.
08:11Now, people can really build themselves up the way they want to.
08:15They can promote themselves the way they want to, post what they want to, shoot what they
08:18want to.
08:19And especially with how the industry has changed, I don't know if this might be a controversial
08:25statement, but I feel like a lot of performers, especially the past five years, or six,
08:30plus when I first started, we have been producers more than we've been given credit for.
08:36All of us.
08:37A lot of us.
08:38Even directors, everybody's been having to wear more hats than ever.
08:41You definitely know that.
08:42Yes.
08:43So, yeah.
08:44I think people finally took a step back and realized, wait a minute, I am dressing myself.
08:49I am ad-libbing my lines.
08:51I know the way my body looks posed.
08:53I know the kind of things I want to shoot.
08:54It's like, I'm kind of doing it already.
08:57Why don't I do some of it for myself?
08:58Or put my ideas out there and tell people what I want to shoot and what I want to do.
09:03And I think we're able to do that without being as much at anybody's mercy.
09:08I know way less girls, especially the past few years with the influx of things like Patreon
09:13and OnlyFans and Snapchat, that they're not waiting by the phone, desperate to take any
09:18job that they need to take, and then regretting what they shoot later, and then having a sour
09:22taste about porn later.
09:24We really can be more independent and in control than ever.
09:29And I think that's a really beautiful thing.
09:31I think that's a really amazing thing, the way the industry is going in that sense.
09:34So the people that do care can really show how much they care and really elevate the
09:39industry like you were saying.
09:42They care more.
09:43So the product is better.
09:44And when the product is better, that's when we're going to all get more credit and not
09:48be looked at as the seedy, dark, underground thing.
09:52No, this is our lives.
09:55We sacrifice so much of our time and energy, blood, sweat, tears, and our own money, all
09:59of us, to put forth this great product.
10:03We're on set 12 plus hours a day sometimes for several days at a time.
10:08We care.
10:09It's our lives and our jobs, and it really is real movies and real glamour shoots.
10:16It's not nothing.
10:17It's not a joke.
10:19It's not all that cheap.
10:21It's a huge business that I think is only thriving more because of the people that really
10:26care.
10:27I'm glad we're kicking out, in a way, some of the people who don't care.
10:30You know what I mean?
10:31Yeah.
10:32And I've definitely noticed that not only has social media and all of those independent
10:37platforms that models have to use to curate their own content, it hasn't only made them
10:43more independent in terms of having that direct connection to their fans and be able to monetize
10:47themselves directly.
10:48But I feel like it's also earned them more respect in the eyes of producers and directors
10:53and companies because now we see girls writing scripts for their own movies or scenes, which
10:59are being directed and produced by other companies, but they're starting to see the value in the
11:04individuality of performers as opposed to just seeing them like they're all just dick
11:10takers.
11:11Oh, no.
11:12Oh my God, no.
11:13You make me feel so good when you say stuff like that because I think that that's so important.
11:18It's really everything right now.
11:19It's like we are multifaceted.
11:20Yeah, we're not just sitting there gaping all day.
11:24We can write and direct and produce and shoot our own stuff.
11:30I consider myself huge on promo.
11:32I'm promoting everything constantly.
11:34And I remember a few years ago, people used to mock you for that, like, God, why are you
11:37retweeting so much?
11:38Why do you got to take pictures everywhere you are?
11:41And nowadays, people beg you for takeovers and posts and tag me in this, post that.
11:48It has changed a lot in such a good way.
11:51I think if you want to take control and put out good stuff, you can now.
11:56Yeah.
11:57Hey, there.
11:58Are you wondering where the rest of that video podcast went?
12:01Well, I will no longer be posting free full length podcast videos on YouTube anymore.
12:08They will now all be going on my Patreon, which is patreon.com slash Holly Randall Unfiltered.
