We had requests from residents, and they were like, we've got something like this in the
00:06
village.
00:07
And so we got in touch with Owls First of All and said, do you want to come down?
00:11
Made a perfect slot, and it's just grown from there.
00:14
Calverts came on board, then they wanted a fish van, so they came on board a couple of
00:19
weeks ago, and Florist started last week.
00:21
So we set this up back in January as a brand new business venture.
00:25
We were the first on here, and then gradually we've got other market traders to come with
00:30
us and build it up as its own little market.
00:33
It's busy, community love it, that's the main thing.
00:36
All our veg, we fetch direct from farmers in Lincolnshire, cabbages, collies, taters,
00:41
stuff like that are all from Boston.
00:43
We deal with three little small farmers, what we fetch them direct from.
00:47
Then we always try and get all this other stuff local, so all his eggs are free range
00:51
in there from Jacksdale.
00:52
We get all his local honey.
00:54
It's all jarred up at Hucknall.
00:56
We've been here a good few months now at the community gardens.
01:00
We've been trading about 12 to 13 years now.
01:04
We are a proper mobile butcher shop, where we will cut things however people want them,
01:08
but we have also got a lot of three for 10 deals and things like that.
01:12
So we appeal to everybody.
01:14
We have suppliers and contacts all up and down the country, we work with a lot of restaurants
01:18
as well.
01:19
So it's brilliant, I mean there's a lot of people who can't really work far, there's
01:23
not many big supermarkets around here and walking distance.
01:26
People come here, you know it's local, you're supporting small businesses, local businesses.
01:32
It's brilliant and it just brings that traditional way of shopping back as well, which I think
01:38
people need.
01:39
And it's nice to have that bit of a conversation with people as well.
01:43
You can't necessarily have that at Tesco and things like that, it's a bit too rushed, it's
01:46
a bit too hectic, whereas here you can come out in the open and it's a really lovely atmosphere
01:52
as well.
01:53
We come up most Wednesdays, we pick up some fruit, we have a Quart Meats on and just lately
01:57
it's just grown, it just used to be the fruit store.
01:59
So yeah, we just use it regularly, it's good for the community.
02:02
I know there's a little shop across Rome, this does a bit more, you know, there's more
02:07
fruits, more veg, you know, fishmen started coming, so it's good for people that can't
02:11
get far, you know, if you have to jump on a bus or drive, and also you're supporting
02:15
these people.
02:16
From a council's perspective, we charge a minimal rent for being on here, which goes
02:20
towards the young people of the garden, and doing it there, so it's kind of win-win for everybody.
