Former Finance Minister Karen Nunez Tesheira, responds to an assurance from Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, that there will be no increase to Value Added Tax.

Dr. Rowley was dealing with what he warned were misleading statements by Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar.

00:00The opposition leader has been claiming that the government intends to increase the value-added tax.
00:06This week, opposition leader Kamala Prasad Bisasa even quoted from what she claimed was a cabinet note projecting an increase in VAT.
00:16This has been shut down by both the finance minister and prime minister Dr. Keith Rowley.
00:22On Friday, former finance minister Karen Nunes Teixeira told the Morning Edition she still has some concerns.
00:52She says, having been in government before, she is aware that proposals are made, but consideration is also given to the impact on the man in the street.
01:22Mrs. Nunes Teixeira believes the economy is in trouble. She says, while there are still some tensions with America blocking the Dragon gas deal, there are other options to consider in the interim.
01:43I do not disagree that they should have pursued Dragonfield. I do not disagree that they should have pursued Lauren. I do not disagree with that at all because we need the natural gas.
01:54It's very clear we have 1.4 billion less than we need. What I'm against is this. Humanity is in our waters. We do not need America's permission.
