Ha Long Bay, Vietnam, arrives in Seattle after 26 days crossing the North Pacific
Transcript
00:00On behalf of the Seattle Sports Commission and the rest of our local organizing committee,
00:22congratulations!
00:23Well, we just won the Mighty Pacific.
00:28This is the most talked about leg of the Clipper race.
00:33We took first off the line when we ever looked back.
00:36Just incredible surfing days.
00:38We had our top boat speed was 27.5 knots on this one and we had a 345 mile day in a 24
00:47hour period.
00:48Pretty tired.
00:50We just crossed the Pacific in just over 25 days and finished some number of hours
00:56ahead of the fleet.
00:57I think Qingdao are probably due across the line at some stage.
01:00We tried a new strategy this time.
01:02Just put about 300 odd miles between you and the rest of the fleet and then there's not
01:06much you can do wrong.
01:08This is win number four, which is kind of surreal.
01:11We've been commenting on how we're running out of room on our flag hollered there.
01:14On this race we played our joker and the reason I played it is I joined, as you know, only
01:19two races ago, but the crew had expectations of playing their joker on this leg.
01:24So we went with a joker.
01:26Because of that we've managed to double our 11 points to 22 points and we also got the
01:32scoring gate.
01:33So that makes 25 points in total for this leg, which is a great result for the boat.
01:39I was a bit nervous, a bit apprehensive, rightly so I think, but yeah, I've kind of come away
01:44from it feeling a lot more confident, realising I'm a bit braver than I thought I was.
01:49And yeah, I've just made some really good friends and yeah, it's been absolutely everything
01:55that I expected.
