00:07 with cancer. The crossbench peer revealed he was terminally ill in October 2021 and
00:13 died in a London care home on Tuesday night. Lord Field was elected 10 times to represent
00:18 Birkenhead between 1979 and 2019. Described as a man with an unwavering moral compass,
00:25 he spent his life fighting poverty, injustice and environmental destruction. He was a minister
00:30 under Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair and joined the House of Lords in 2020 after leaving
00:35 Labour to form the Birkenhead Social Justice Party. In a statement his family said, "Through
00:40 a long battle with cancer, Frank Field remained resilient and engaged with life until the
00:45 end. He will be enormously missed by his family and wide circle of friends." After 40 years
00:49 of dedicated public service, Frank will be mourned by admirers across the political divide
00:54 but above all he will be deeply missed by those lucky enough to have enjoyed his laughter
