00:00 Thank you.
00:27 I want to ask, a robot doesn't have ego.
00:50 So now what is the intersection between the urge to be towards freedom and your ego?
00:57 You could say the robo does have an ego planted into it by its designer.
01:11 Therefore the ego of the robo is totally in bondage and therefore choiceless.
01:21 You could either say the robo has no ego and that would be perfectly correct or you could
01:24 say the robo has an ego, a sense of I.
01:29 What is ego?
01:30 A sense of I.
01:33 The robo has an ego that cannot choose.
01:36 We utter I.
01:40 We utter I exist, I am.
01:45 And this I am-ness could either be robotic or real.
01:51 It is robotic when your I am-ness is dependent on others.
01:59 And if you feel threatened that if the other disappears or withdraws, the I am-ness itself
02:08 will disappear.
02:11 That's the slave ego.
02:13 For example, I am rich.
02:18 What is the ego?
02:19 The I am thing is the ego.
02:23 And if the ego says I am rich and if the riches vanish for some reason, some reason, a stock
02:30 market crash let's say, the fellow says oh my god I am gone because who was I, the rich
02:37 one and the riches have gone so I am dead.
02:41 I am rich.
02:42 Now strike out the word rich.
02:45 What remains?
02:46 Nothing.
02:47 That's false ego.
02:52 But most of us choose to live in this kind of false and dependent ego.
03:00 Real ego is self-dependent, free.
03:07 It does not find it necessary to identify itself with something.
03:14 It does not experience a kind of vacuum that it must compulsorily fill up with something,
03:25 anything, some trash.
03:30 Many of us for example might be finding it difficult to just sit silently and listen.
03:37 Because in the moment of silence you have to say I am.
03:41 In fact you don't even say I am, there is just silence.
03:45 And that's a threat to the ego because the ego must say something.
03:48 I am X, I am Y.
03:49 So the ego chooses to say I am gossiping.
03:53 Now gossip makes the ego feel alive.
03:56 Oh I exist.
03:57 Otherwise there is the danger of inner death.
04:02 Obviously a false death.
04:04 No real danger actually.
04:06 Do you get this?
04:10 The way we are, the way we are born, we are born with the sense of I am.
04:19 It is this sense of I am that works all life to gain fulfillment.
04:28 Being unfulfilled is our condition right since birth.
04:35 But we choose because of ignorance, fulfillment from the wrong kind, not even wrong, useless
04:44 kind of sources.
04:47 We choose to be associated with something that will fail in delivering fulfillment.
04:56 So I am rich or I am traveling.
04:57 I am a tourist.
04:58 I am a husband.
05:00 I am a lover.
05:01 I am educated.
05:02 I am intelligent.
05:03 I am Hindu.
05:06 I am Muslim.
05:07 I am male.
05:08 I am female.
05:09 I am smart.
05:14 We want at all moments to associate ourselves with a certain identity in the hope that the
05:24 association will bring fulfillment.
05:27 That association does not bring fulfillment because it is an exercise in the wrong direction.
05:32 We require not association, but actually dissociation that is called freedom.
05:41 Freedom is to dissociate yourself from all your dependencies.
05:46 Would you remember this?
05:49 Freedom is to dissociate yourself from your dependencies.
05:52 Whereas the ego is constantly clamoring for more and more dependencies.
06:00 Even the things that you call as your assets actually become your dependencies.
06:06 For example, I own a Rolls Royce.
06:14 In language, I seem to be implying that I am the master of the car.
06:19 But tell me, one day the Rolls Royce isn't visible.
06:22 Something has happened and you need to go from place A to place B and all that is available
06:29 is a humble hero splendor.
06:34 What will happen to you?
06:37 Think of your condition.
06:39 Now who is the master and who is the slave?
06:43 Who is the master?
06:44 You the owner of the car?
06:46 No.
06:47 The car became so important to you, you got dependent and now when the car is not there,
06:51 the car is not suffering.
06:52 You are suffering.
06:53 So who is the master?
06:56 The car is the master.
06:58 The ego chooses to associate, associate, achieve, obtain, accomplish, thinking that all these
07:04 associations will give it fulfillment.
07:07 No, they don't.
07:10 Freedom comes from dissociation and dissociation does not mean that you throw your Rolls Royce
07:19 away.
07:21 Freedom simply means that internally you are not dependent on the car for your identity.
07:28 The car is there if it needs to be.
07:33 I don't think mostly it needs to be there, Rolls Royce kind of thing.
07:39 But even if it is there, it is at your periphery, mental periphery.
07:45 It does not become so important to you that you keep it at the center of your life.
07:52 Similarly with persons, you start idolizing someone.
07:59 You call someone as your role model and that person becomes so important to you.
08:07 Or because I am talking to young people, you fall in love and that person becomes your
08:13 entire universe.
08:17 If not the entire universe, at least the center of your universe.
08:23 That's the way of the ego, to depend, to constantly experience a hollow and look towards the world
08:32 to somehow fill up that hollow.
08:35 Can this fill up my hollow?
08:36 I want to attain this.
08:37 So I work very hard to earn money to have this, hoping that this will reduce my feeling
08:44 of being unfulfilled.
08:48 Rolls Royce, a higher degree, a better paying job, a bigger house, a new boyfriend, all
08:59 these are in the same category.
09:01 The ego is using them to somehow get rid of its state of incompleteness.
09:09 But these efforts do not succeed.
09:13 What the ego really wants is freedom, not association.
09:18 More associations will not make you feel better.
09:25 Freedom from associations is what makes you come alive and freedom from associations does
09:32 not mean being a loner.
09:35 It simply means not being a slave.
09:40 Can't you be in a relationship without being a slave?
09:45 Can't there be a healthy and free relationship?
09:48 Or do you really have to become somebody's pet dog for the relationship to exist?
09:57 Right?
09:58 So that's the choice that you have.
10:01 Do you want to live in freedom or do you want to chase associations, assets, accomplishments
10:08 all your life?
10:10 The more you chase, the more you will be disappointed and suffer.
10:20 Is this making sense or is it just too much and too fast?
10:31 Not sure.
10:34 I hope this at least gives you a start.
10:41 You are young, you have a long way to go and you have time.
