00:04 Thursday, heavy showers in the north, particularly the northwest, and squally
00:09 rain across England and Wales. Warnings have been issued. There's a rain warning
00:14 from 5 a.m. on Thursday extending from Fenland, East Anglia, down towards London,
00:19 Severn Estuary and central southern England. So expect one to three hours of
00:23 heavy rain and gusts could reach 50 miles an hour associated with this
00:27 rain band. Further south there's a wind warning, so along the coastline in
00:31 particular we could see gusts in excess of around 60 miles an hour. So wherever
00:37 you are, if you're traveling through Thursday morning and into the afternoon,
00:41 it's worth noting there could be some challenging weather on the roads. Poor
00:45 visibility, lots of spray and obviously those gusty winds which could pick up at
00:50 any time. Here's your bigger picture. It's this active cold front which extends
00:56 towards Wales, northern England and the West Country through the early hours of
00:59 Thursday morning, clearing through the afternoon across eastern counties. But
01:04 low pressure always in charge towards the north and what that means, the air is
01:09 colder, the air is coming in from the northwest, always delivering showers on
01:14 Friday, snow over the higher ground and then come Saturday I can offer you some
01:19 sunshine and just a few showers. More about that in a moment. For the time
01:23 being, that's Wednesday evening, some cloud across central and southern parts
01:27 of England and Wales. Heavy showers across the north as well as the west of
01:31 Scotland. A keen breeze here, a cluster coming in across Northern Ireland and
01:34 then this is this active cold front which extends from Wales towards the
01:39 West Country, pushes towards northern England and we'll see some heavier rain
01:43 across eastern counties of Scotland. As this main rain band, which you can see
01:47 how heavy it is with those squally winds, approaches the Midlands through the
01:50 early hours of the morning. Temperatures holding up towards the southeast but
01:54 certainly it's a cold start to the day across Scotland and Northern Ireland
01:58 even with some patchy frost. Now this rain band here will have associated with
02:02 it some hail, thunder as well as lightning and in fact the showers
02:05 towards the north also they could be thundery with the risk of hail. But
02:09 notice this rain band here, it's heavy squally winds and only slowly clears
02:14 through the afternoon. So even afternoon time across the southeast you could see
02:19 some heavy pulses of rain. At the same time the clearance does come in across
02:23 Wales, northern England, eastern counties of Scotland not doing too badly at all. A few
02:27 showers here and some sunshine, some brighter skies but the showers towards
02:31 the west of Scotland will turn wintry over the higher ground and certainly we
02:34 could even see some snow over the peaks of the higher ground of Northern Ireland.
02:39 Now through Thursday evening and overnight more showers run in across
02:43 central and western areas of England and Wales and further showers, snow over the
02:47 higher ground across Scotland as well as Northern Ireland. A few running in across
02:51 northern England and here across Pennines we could see a little bit of
02:55 wintryness as well. Temperatures really taking a tumble into Friday morning, it's
03:00 a cold start with the risk of a frost where you see some clearer skies and in
03:05 shelter. But showers from the word go towards the West Country and it showers
03:09 all the way through Friday. Again snow over the hills particularly across
03:13 northern hills and a little sunshine coming through in shelter across more
03:17 central and eastern areas. Temperatures will struggle around average for this
03:21 time of year but even so relative to the milder air we saw at the beginning of
03:26 the week, yes it's going to feel rather cold. Even so some drier interludes but
03:30 always those frequent bursts towards the west and a bit of a breeze coming in
03:34 across the northwest of Scotland. So through the afternoon temperatures will
03:39 rise to around 8 across more northern areas, you may squeeze a 9 towards more
03:44 southern areas but watch out for those showers through Friday rush hour. Here's
03:48 your outlook through Saturday, there'll be a few showers in the mix but at the
03:52 same time some sunshine after a chilly start and even a frosty one. More rain
