London is the most expensive place to live in the UK. In fact, when a list of the top
00:07
10 most expensive streets in the UK was revealed by Halifax, all 10 of those streets were in
00:14
London. But where are the most expensive places to live in the capital? Well, Grosvenor Square
00:21
in Mayfair has been home to the British aristocracy since the 1700s and housed the US embassy
00:28
until 2017. In fact, a young JFK lived on the square when his father was US ambassador
00:36
to London and it is believed it was also once home to Oscar Wilde. This square has an average
00:43
house value of over £20 million and is filled to the brim with plush cars with parking tickets,
00:50
hotels and personal drivers. It's fair to say that Mayfair is the most
00:56
expensive place to live in London and anyone with a monopoly board can tell you that. From
01:02
expensive omakase restaurants to high end car dealerships, the area just feels wealthy.
01:11
Heading west to the borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Clarendon Road in Notting Hill
01:16
took second place in Halifax's survey with an average price tag for homes just shy of
01:22
the £20 million mark at £19.96 million. Mayfair, Knightsbridge and Notting Hill are
01:30
three of the most expensive places in the capital, but all three are very different.
01:36
While Mayfair appears fairly quiet, Knightsbridge is the home of Harrods, Harvey Nichols and
01:41
close to London's Victoria Station. You're even within walking distance to Chelsea and
01:46
Soho in each direction. It really is known as the rich person's playground.
01:53
Then in West London, Notting Hill is regarded as a slightly trendier place to live. Obviously
01:59
home to the iconic film starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, this place has a huge attraction
02:05
to tourists as well. But from restaurants to bougie coffee shops and cafes, its ambience
02:10
is very different to Knightsbridge and Mayfair. Mayfair though, without a doubt, does a very
02:16
appear to be the richest area. This borough actually separates Buckingham Palace from
02:22
Soho and it feels like a crossover between them both too. Regal restaurants, stunning
02:28
old Englandy architecture and a wealth of designer shops. For more on the richest neighbourhoods
02:34
in the capital, head to Londonworld.com.
