00:00 has been having a great carnival. The Young Kings winner can now add road
00:04 march to his resume as he's now the 2024 champion.
00:11 The results for the 2024 Tuko national roadmatch competition are out. Before
00:20 Tuko announced the 2024 roadmatch win on Wednesday, there was speculation in the
00:25 early half of the carnival season that neither Black Man and Lyrical's song
00:30 "Best Self" would have been in the running for roadmatch. But that feeling
00:33 changed when Bungie Garland released a carnival contract.
00:39 On Carnival Monday, the only song that seemed to be giving Teja's DNA a run
00:47 for its money was Bungie Garland's carnival contract. And on Carnival Tuesday,
00:53 roadmatch watchers were still unsure as to who the winner would be. But
00:57 masqueraders did not expect to be crossing the stage to put his rubber
01:01 song "Anxiety."
01:04 The announcement by Tuko on Ash Wednesday puts an end to any doubt. It's
01:11 official. The results were of the number of times the top three songs were
01:16 played on Carnival Monday and Tuesday. I have three names here. So I'm gonna
01:22 start from what we will consider the third place. And the third place here on
01:27 my sheet is Patrice Roberts, "Anxiety," 48 plays across the nation. And second is
01:38 Ian Alvarez, "Bungie Garland," carnival contract with 225 plays across the
01:48 nation over the weekend period. And ladies and gentlemen, I'm pleased to
01:55 announce our roadmatch winner for 2024. And that is Mikkel Williams, "Mikkel Teja,"
02:07 "DNA," with 341 plays over the weekend period. A favorite for the season, which
02:17 became a favorite in our hearts and now a favorite on the road. Mikkel Teja took
02:22 home his first ever roadmatch. And it's no secret that Teja and Garland were
02:27 neck-to-neck for the season. Garland thanked his fans for supporting him,
02:31 saying, "It has been a fabulous and magical journey with this song and
02:35 seeing what it has grown into and what it is growing into." He also congratulated
02:41 Teja, saying, "Blessings as you continue your journey through Soca."
