00:00 Good afternoon, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers and here is David Bathurst, good friend, fantastic walker, and we have just done it.
00:11 We have just completed the entire Sussex coastline, 130 miles in 8 chunks, and David, you have been a magnificent guide, it's been brilliant, it's been an awesome thing to do, hasn't it?
00:23 And the coast, it's just so varied, isn't it?
00:25 It's been wonderful, absolutely wonderful, I mean just today, the variety is astonishing, starting with the cliffs, you know, the massive steep falls, ascents, and then contrasted them with walking alongside the Shingle all the way to Rye Harbour up to the lovely village of Rye, town of Rye, and then alongside Canberra Sands, Brimhill Sands, stunning.
00:49 I think I've had two favourite chunks, pretty much the first one going all around Thorney and in and out, fiddling around getting to Bosham, when we did how many miles? Just to go effectively 4 miles up the road, that was so fabulous.
01:02 About 15 or 16 miles.
01:04 And the other favourite bit, our chunk that we did from Shoreham all the way to Cookmere Haven, all the way along Hove and Brighton and around New Haven, that was just stunning, wasn't it?
01:14 Well over 20 miles of pure joy and the view to the Seven Sisters in the hot September sunshine, I'll never forget that.
01:21 What were your favourite bits, the bits that stand out?
01:24 I think the approach to the Seven Sisters and also I have to say I've really really enjoyed the walk through Rye and then down towards Canberra Sands this afternoon, loved that.
01:33 And one of your great achievements is you've walked so much of the South Coast, all of it.
01:38 I have, yeah.
01:39 All of it.
01:40 The whole South Coast, yeah, all the way round from Minehead to Dartford.
01:42 And what's distinctive about Sussex would you say?
01:44 Just the sheer variety, I just love the fact that you've got everything now, the cliffs, the beaches, the lovely interesting seaside towns, villages, absolutely perfect, so much to see, so much variety, you could walk along there every day of your life and see something different.
01:59 And it just feels fantastic after all these years of working in West Sussex to now say that we have walked every single step of the entire Sussex Coast.
02:09 It's been magnificent David, thank you so much.
02:11 You're very welcome Phil. Such a brilliant guide. Thank you. Oh you're too kind. Bye.
