New bridge in place as £145m rail upgrade nears completion

The Hope Valley Line upgrade is due for completion on March 25 and will enable more trains to run between Sheffield and Manchester. As part of the work, a new bridge and a second platform are being created at Dore & Totley station in Sheffield.

00:17 We're here at Doorantopley Station where we've just installed the new footbridge.

00:22 The work is part of a JV between Story Contracting and Volker Rail for Network Rail the Client.

00:28 On the weekend, during a 48-hour possession of the railway, we installed six staircase

00:33 sections and the main span using a 200-tonne road mobile crane.

00:37 The project has had its challenges, one of which has been building a new platform in

00:41 between two low railway tracks.

00:44 As well as the footbridge install, we have built a 153-metre long new platform and extended

00:50 the existing platform by 53 metres in readiness for the commissioning date on 25 March this

00:55 year.
