Over one in 25 train stops at Sheffield station cancelled in last year - and passengers are looking forward to nationalisation.
Transcript
00:00So I got to Hope station for my 9.38 train to find that it had been cancelled.
00:07There's only one train an hour so I've lost a full hour of my day and meeting my friend has meant that she's had to wait for me.
00:14So it's just a bit of a shame, it just ruins your day out.
00:18So there's no alternative?
00:19No, no it's just one train an hour.
00:22So I was thinking what do I do but I'd already paid for my parking at the station for all day.
00:28And so you just think by the time I've worked out another route or driven and paid to park somewhere else as well, it won't be worth it.
00:36Just wait the hour, so I just waited an hour.
00:39And how common is that in your experience?
00:42It's not common and I think there's more trains get cancelled from Manchester generally.
00:50It feels that way but it hasn't happened to me before.
00:54Did they say why?
00:56Something about staff not available. It was a staffing issue.
01:02Are you getting the train home?
01:04Yes, so I'm really hoping they're working the other way.
01:07Me too.
01:08We have had problems here before, haven't we actually getting home? Yes, now we think about it.
01:13Yeah, we have had a few problems here before.
01:16Do you know why?
01:18I think that was signals wasn't it?
01:24My sister had an experience last week going from Herifold to, back to Wakefield.
01:31And their trains were cancelled then, from Birmingham to Leeds.
01:41Do you think it's getting worse?
01:43I think it is getting worse. Yeah, I think it's getting worse. Yeah.
01:48I mean, I live in York and I've been on trains, say, to London, they've been cancelled.
01:54And even to Manchester, they've been cancelled.
01:58What impact is it having on you?
02:00Well, you know, like my friend said, your whole day is ruined.
02:05And sometimes, when I've gone to London, you know, I can't get to London because change
02:10I've been cancelled.
02:12So it doesn't have an impact on you, you know, on your day out.
02:16Yeah, yeah.
02:17Government hands.
02:19They've got more control over it.
02:21So, I think it would be a good thing.
02:24Do you remember British Rail?
02:26I do, yes.
02:27Even then, back in the 70s, going to London from Wakefield.
02:30Trains were packed.
02:33You sat in the corridor.
02:35And, yeah, things were, you know, busy then.
02:40But despite that, you?
02:42Well, despite that, I still used to trains.
02:44Well, despite that, you welcomed nationalisation.
02:47Oh, I think so, yeah.
02:48Why? Why, may I ask?
02:50Well, I think, I think more controlling.
02:52I think there might be a better system for booking the tickets.
02:56Trying to book a ticket, you know, on the websites now.
03:01It's really confusing.
