00:00Darlington Station has reopened following a £140 million redevelopment, which added
00:07two new platforms and a new eastern entrance. The four-year project on the East Coast mainline
00:13also created a multi-storey car park and an accessible enclosed footbridge, linking the
00:18extension with the Victorian Station building. Rail Minister Lord Hendy says the investment
00:24will support jobs and economic growth across Tees Valley. Some concerns were previously raised
00:30about the car park design and delays linked to additional bridge requirements. From Sunday,
00:37passengers are being advised to allow extra time because some trains will leave
00:41from different platforms each day.
