00:12 Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has explained the prompt hearing given by the Federal Territories Pardons Board
00:17 to Najib Razak's Royal Pardon Application.
00:20 Speaking at the Prime Minister's Department's monthly assembly,
00:23 Anwar denied suggestions that a convict must serve at least three years of his sentence
00:27 before his pardon application can be considered.
00:30 He said anyone convicted of an offence can submit an initial application in line with the given process.
00:35 He said as Prime Minister, he ensured that Najib's case was duly heard,
00:39 adding that he takes it upon himself to ensure that all applications received are given prompt attention.
00:44 On Saturday, UMNO's Supreme Council Member Lokwan Adam acknowledged Anwar's role in expediting Najib's pardon hearing,
00:50 which resulted in the commutation of the former Prime Minister's sentence and fine.
00:54 Last Friday, the Pardons Board announced the reduction of Najib's prison sentence in the SRC International case from 12 years to 6.
01:01 His fine was also reduced from RM210 million to RM50 million,
01:05 but with an additional year added to the sentence if he fails to pay the amount.
