00:00 It's been a tough travel stretch across I-5 as you're heading through Oregon, especially
00:05 down towards cities like Portland.
00:06 And even as you're heading on south to I-5 into central Oregon, we've had a lot of reports
00:10 of freezing rain and some icing on the roadways.
00:12 And remember, friends, ice is the great equalizer.
00:15 When it comes to driving in winter weather, a tiny, tiny bit can cause huge problems on
00:20 the roadways.
00:21 Now, good news, bad news.
00:22 Obviously, you can see here behind me, it's a little busy on satellite and radar.
00:26 I've got the blue representing the snowfall into cities like Spokane, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho,
00:30 and even down toward Boise.
00:31 It's been thumping throughout the day.
00:34 But as you look back toward I-5 in Oregon and even back up into the Olympic Peninsula
00:37 of Washington, you see a lot of pink.
00:40 That represents where we do have that wintry mixing and more so that freezing rain where
00:43 surface temperatures are still quite cold.
00:46 There's a little layer of warm air nosing its way through the atmosphere.
00:49 Here's the thing, though.
00:50 The air is going to warm even at the surface level by the end of the day.
00:54 And while we are below freezing right now in Portland, it's been a cold start to the
00:57 morning here, 27 degrees.
00:58 We're going to have high temperatures looking a little bit closer to Medford.
01:02 Temperatures getting back into the 40s today in cities like Portland, Oregon, and even
01:06 the 50s as you head on south toward Salem, Eugene, and Medford as well.
01:10 That's going to help change us over from freezing rain to some straight-up rainfall by the end
01:14 of the day.
01:15 You're still going to have some slick spots out there.
01:17 So keep it, well, easy, I suppose.
01:20 Take it easy, I should say, as you head out on the roads.
01:22 Or better yet, if you have the ability to maybe work from home, stay home, whatever,
01:26 leave your errands for a different day, I highly suggest it.
01:29 Into Washington, you can see Seattle more in the way of our wintry mix.
01:31 But Spokane, where the temperatures are considerably cooler, we are just looking at snow.
01:36 More in the way of Helena and Bozeman as well.
01:38 Temperatures in the 20s and 30 degrees respectively for Spokane and even as you're heading out
01:41 toward Helena and Bozeman.
01:43 Now, here's the wide view of what's happening today.
01:45 You can see the snowfall, again, into the interior northwest especially.
01:49 Once you get to the Cascades, it's that heavy snow as well into the mountain range.
01:53 And then, in the lee side of the mountains into the Yakima Valley, more of that wintry
01:56 mixing going on.
01:57 I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of straight-up snowflakes, though.
02:00 Tomorrow is a much different picture.
02:01 You can see Thursday is a little less, hmm, busy, shall we call it, across the map.
02:06 But there's still some rain across I-5 and there's still some snow across the Cascades
02:10 and even into some of the valleys on the lee side of the mountains.
02:14 But you will notice later this week things change, not in terms of not getting precipitation,
02:18 but at least the type.
02:19 Look at Seattle over the next seven days.
02:21 Temperatures, after such a cold stretch, warm back to the 50s by the time we get to Sunday
02:25 and Monday, even Tuesday, although it does take until Tuesday for the rain to move out.
