00:00 Well, it's another sweaty day here in Sydney.
00:04 I'm not sure about you, but I am certainly feeling it.
00:07 It is very, very sticky here.
00:10 The reason for this is that yesterday was actually the muggiest day on record according
00:13 to the Bureau of Meteorology.
00:16 These oppressive humidity levels mean that the real temperature is hotter than what it
00:20 actually is.
00:21 So most places in Sydney yesterday sat around between 29 to 31 degrees, but that was more
00:26 like 36 degrees for most people.
00:29 What this means is that with these moisture levels, it's around five degrees hotter is
00:33 what it feels like than it actually is.
00:35 It's what most of our friends in the tropics usually feel in places like Darwin and Cairns.
00:40 Now here at Clovelly Beach this morning, most of the people here are actually people visiting
00:45 from the UK.
00:46 They say that they're not a great deal sweatier than what they usually are, and they're just
00:49 happy to be here in the sun and in warm water.
00:52 I'm not sure that I quite agree with that sentiment though.
00:55 Here's what they had to say a short time ago.
00:57 It's very warm.
00:58 I only just got here Monday from the UK, so yeah, it's quite hot.
01:01 It's definitely a lot more sweaty, but I don't know if that's towards the sun or the humidity
01:04 because it's just cold in the UK.
01:06 Cold and wet, so yeah.
01:08 This is not hot.
01:09 I hear it was 39 last week or whatever, or a couple of weeks ago.
01:12 That's hot, but today's perfect, absolutely glorious.
01:15 Well, I didn't go out yesterday much because it was so hot.
01:19 I stayed at home.
01:21 I guess warm and wet is better than cold and wet.
01:24 Courtney, do we know what's behind this humidity or how long it's expected to last?
01:29 Ruby, these unbearable levels of high humidity are here to stay, unfortunately, for quite
01:35 some time.
01:36 They're caused by warming waters in the Tasman Sea, and that's being pushed inland by strong
01:41 winds.
01:42 Like I said, the bad news is that it's here to stay and stick around for a little while,
01:46 staying around until mid next week at the earliest.
01:49 Meteorologists say that this muggy weather will bring isolated pockets of storms and
01:54 rainfall across much of New South Wales over the next week or so.
01:59 So I think the best thing to do right now is to invest in some sweat-resistant sunscreen,
02:02 stay cool, get in the water, and if you do have a planned blow dry between now and next
02:07 week, maybe reconsider or try putting your hair up instead.
