00:00 The North Otone Women's Cricket Initiative, which began in September, has gathered momentum
00:04 as 15 to 18 women cricketers with varying abilities came together to enhance their knowledge

00:11 They concluded a productive Sunday evening with a cricket match at the indoor nets at
00:14 the Queen's Park Oval.
00:16 The participants had fun.
00:17 Well at the beginning it started off slow but I enjoyed it because I got to meet new
00:23 people from all over like Blanche, Chiches and from other schools and everything and
00:28 it was just an enjoyable time to come together and be introduced to new people.
00:34 I hope that one day we could just go out as a team and play and do well no matter what
00:40 win or lose we just go out and have a good time.
00:42 Yeah it was a good experience I got to learn a lot of things.
00:47 You know how to drive, pull shots, I learned a lot of things and I had a lot of fun.
00:54 What did this do for your self confidence?
00:57 I think it really helped me because I share these things here and I can go out and use
01:04 it in a match.
01:05 It kind of made me realise that I can take it somewhere, I can pick up this sport and
01:12 carry it somewhere.
01:13 Coach of the team Tamika Nannan-Ramsumer believes that the cricketers have potential and she's
01:18 hoping they can be prepared to compete by 2024 into 2025.
01:22 So far I saw the skill development with these girls, they have lots of talent and hopefully
01:29 in 2025 we can probably play at the Toronto and Tobago women's tournament and hopefully
01:39 they can make it to the Trinidad and Tobago cricket team and further more to the West
01:43 Indies level and more so for the franchise.
01:46 She also believes it's a good initiative for the Northern Zone.
01:49 It's quite important because it doesn't have any team for Toronto and Tobago women's
01:57 cricket board at the North Zone level so it's a good initiative from the North Zone.
02:03 But how challenging was it to find women cricketers?
02:06 It was a bit challenging but the North Zone has at their disposal they have social media
02:14 pages and we use the schools, the two major schools to try to sell the program.
02:22 All the participants were given a certificate for their participation.
02:26 Moving forward the North Zone will be aiming to keep them together but to do that they
02:31 will require some investment to keep the venture going.
