00:00 The second statement is with regards to the funding of arts.
00:06 Organisations in my region, such as Theotohafra and Mid Wales Opera and Impella, have lost
00:11 their funding completely.
00:14 The Y side, which is an iconic venue serving the people of Powys in Biltwells for decades,
00:21 has had its support cut to a mere 20 per cent.
00:24 Sadly, if it doesnít get any funding by 2024, the curtains could come down for good.
00:31 Whilst I understand the allocation of funding is by the independent Arts Council for Wales,
00:38 I wonder if consideration might be given to any interim funding to tide them over until
00:43 the outcome of an appeal.
00:45 Diolch yn fawr iawn, Llywydd.
00:46 Y Llywydd / The Llywydd: Thank you.
00:47 The Minister for Climate Change will be bringing forward a statement on building safety next
00:52 week in the Chamber.
00:55 With regards to your questions around arts funding, Welsh Government, as you point out,
01:00 funds the arts mainly through the Arts Council of Wales, which operates in accordance with
01:04 the armís-length principle.
01:08 You mentioned three particular organisations in your own area, and Iím aware of Mid Wales
01:15 Opera and Hafren.
01:18 I think it would be important, if they donít agree with the outcome, they had the opportunity
01:21 to engage with the appeals process.
01:23 Unfortunately, that did close.
01:25 I hope they did do that, if that was the case.
01:28 Around Wyside Arts Centre, as you say, they have been successful and they havenít received
01:34 the full amount.
01:35 Unfortunately, many successful organisations with a current financial position did not
01:41 receive indicative awards for the full amounts requested through the investment review.
01:46 Obviously, the outcomes of that review are a matter for ACW.
