00:00So we're here with Grant Saylor, Station Master at Castletown Railway Station.
00:05You're involved in both the Supporters Association and the Friends of Castletown Station.
00:11If you can guide me through what's been happening here.
00:14Over the winter the railway have had contractors in, so every single inch of picket fencing that you see around
00:21the site has all been completely replaced and repainted.
00:24The one that will make the locals very happy is our car park.
00:27It has been resurfaced for the first time in many years.
00:31It was full of possals before.
00:32It isn't anymore. A lot of rewiring has been done to the electrics in both the listed buildings,
00:40which has had the Friends of the Station have then moved in to do all the peripheral things,
00:45which is all the benches have been repaired, the plant pots painted, the signage will all go back up in
00:50the next few weeks.
00:51That's being funded by the Friends.
00:54We've also, through the generosity of Bushies, have helped us again.
00:59And the hoarding has gone back up. We're absolutely delighted with what they've done.
01:03So it's a restoration of a historic feature at the station.
01:05Yeah, it got damaged in the storm last year, so we've reinforced it.
01:10And then the capital dock has gone in, which was funded by the railway supporters, which is another historical feature.
01:16And then our next potential project is cladding the new water tower down at the end of the yard,
01:22which will be stone faced hopefully, but that's in the future.
01:26OK, I think it's probably the best preserved station on the line now, isn't it?
01:31It's the most historically intact, apart from the obvious things like the platforms.
01:36Both the sidings are still in, the two buildings are original.
01:40And it's looked after by the volunteers, in cooperation with the railway to obviously run the trains
01:44and do the major jobs like the fence, which would be on our remit.
01:48And now it's looking better than ever before.
01:49Yeah, it's looking extremely smart, looking forward to another busy season.
01:52Cheers, Grant. Thank you.
