00:00 Our top story tonight is taking us to the south where we've been tracking severe thunderstorms.
00:05 Baton Rouge, Louisiana is one spot that's under a tornado threat as these storms also
00:09 bring flooding downpours, hail and damaging winds.
00:12 For a closer look, we head now to extreme meteorologist Dr. Reid Timmer who joins us
00:16 live from Faraday in eastern Louisiana.
00:20 And Reid, you've got yourself into a pickle there.
00:21 It looks like there's some flash flooding in your area.
00:24 What are you seeing out there and what do you expect moving forward?
00:26 Well that's right, a little bit of a pickle here in Faraday.
00:30 Definitely is a flash flood warning.
00:32 This area down toward Natchez on the Mississippi side and also toward Fayette.
00:36 This is because of storms that have been training over the same areas here for several hours
00:40 and a couple of these prompted some tornado warnings on the north side of Alexandria,
00:44 came through the Jonesville area and then approaching Faraday just dumping tons of rainfall,
00:50 about two to four inches of rainfall with another one to two inches expected.
00:53 And you can see the gas station here, we just have this big fire hose that's coming down,
00:58 a lot of ponding of the roadways as well.
01:00 This is highway 84 headed off to the southeast toward Natchez across the river over there.
01:06 But the tornado threat still exists.
01:07 There's a couple of tornado warnings on the south side of Jackson that have some strong
01:11 rotation and you can see that convective line definitely was packing a punt.
01:16 Whiteout conditions at times, definitely some mesocyclones moving through and even hail
01:20 up to the size of half dollars as those storms are approaching the Mississippi River.
01:25 You got it, Reid.
01:26 And I understand now that we're moving into after dark, we start to get that low level
01:31 jet kicking in, the winds are increasing out there and the tornado threat does continue
01:35 for us here into south central Mississippi especially.
01:40 That's right.
01:41 And usually this time of year in the mid-south, these events happen overnight and in the dark
01:46 and those are the most dangerous types of outbreaks because a lot of times people are
01:49 sleeping, it can be exhausting keeping up with all these tornado warnings and a lot
01:53 of times the storms are fast moving as well, relatively populated areas here across the
01:57 mid-south and it does look like that tornado threat could increase.
02:01 It's definitely not over until it's over here in the mid-south because a lot of times these
02:05 events will continue overnight tonight and it does look like those conditions for tornado
02:09 potential will persist well beyond midnight and into the early morning hours on Tuesday
02:13 across south central Mississippi.
02:16 You got it, Reid.
02:17 We'll stay safe out there.
02:18 We appreciate your report from eastern Louisiana and there's a lot of activity going on just
02:23 to Reid's east.
02:25 We may check in with him a little bit later.
02:27 Let's get to the radar here, folks, and see the storms that Reid was talking about, they're
02:30 training over each other.
02:32 They're going from right along the Mississippi River to areas that are just to the east.
02:39 Take a look at it.
02:40 This is the area we're talking about right in here.
02:42 These storms are training one after the other like cars in a train that go over each other.
02:48 That's why we got the flash flood warning right here.
02:51 We've also got not one, not two, but three tornado warnings here, folks, and they are
02:56 confirmed tornadoes.
02:57 Let's stop the radar here.
02:59 West of Philadelphia, we've got one up here into areas east of Canton.
03:05 That is a confirmed tornado.
03:06 You should be taking shelter right now.
