00:00 I am here at Avon Valley Country Park as their autumn season of events is well underway.
00:08 Let's find out more from the park's owners.
00:10 We are at Avon Valley Country Park in Keynsham. It's an event park that specialises in the
00:16 different seasons and at the moment we're midway into Halloween madness with a pumpkin
00:22 patch and fear and scare parks and all of that loveliness.
00:27 My father's run the farm since '79 and we were a pick your own farm, largest pick your
00:33 own farm in the south west and then that evolved into a country park which we run as well.
00:40 Let's find out more about these spooktastic events.
00:44 So everyone comes in and there's huge fields as you can see just full of pumpkins. We've
00:49 got every different kind of pumpkin you can imagine, munchkins, moonshines, I mean whatever
00:55 you can imagine. And you come on in, choose your pumpkins, use the wheelbarrows, try and
01:01 get them through the mud due to the lovely rain.
01:04 Halloween is our busiest time of the year. We're going to see about 75,000 people come
01:07 to Avon Valley in the next four weeks which is crazy. 40,000 of them are going to be at
01:14 pumpkin patch, another 20,000 are going to be visiting fear which is our adult Halloween
01:21 attraction.
01:22 You can wander around, we've got fair, ground rides, we've got these really cool games with
01:27 like an apple cannon that just flies off, paintballs, there's so much to do, it's really
01:33 cool. My favourite is the fire shows because every hour we just have a huge fire show with
01:38 loads of characters who dance around and yeah it's really cool.
01:42 People are really surprised because you turn up and expect just a pumpkin patch but that's
01:46 not what we do here. It's really important that you have a great day, we've got lovely
01:50 staff, we've got characters roaming and you can actually just have a really good day out,
01:56 not just pick a pumpkin and then have to carve it at home. It's an event rather than just
02:00 a quick pick.
02:03 Grab a wheelbarrow and roam through the massive home grown pumpkin patch to pick your own
02:08 perfect pumpkin. But when the cost of living crisis is a very real worry for Bristolians,
02:14 why is a local family run park so important to support?
02:18 It's a huge thing because if you don't, you lose it. The only way to keep everything is
02:27 by supporting it and that's how it works, it's a chain. If you support that business
02:32 then whatever your job is, every single job at the moment and every community needs supporting
02:37 and if you just focus on one then it gets really hard whereas something like this, it
02:45 all just comes together and it creates one brilliant thing rather than lots of small
02:49 okay things. So I just think it's so important and we're in a beautiful community here.
02:55 It is fair to say that Avon Valley Country Park's line-up of Autumn events is already
03:00 a success this year.
