PETRONAS launches country's first private 5G network

PETRONAS has launched a private 5G network to optimise its internal operations, the first of its kind in Malaysia.  The network is currently being used at its PETRONAS Regasification Terminal Sungai Udang (RGTSU) in Melaka.  Speaking at the launch on Friday (Oct 6), Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the deployment of the Petronas 5G Private Network sets the stage for a dynamic partnership between the government, the private sector and academia. 01:14 As of September 2023, Malaysia's 5G coverage in populated areas stands at 70.2%, with 5G

01:25 subscription totalling 2.49 million, translating to 7.4% penetration rate.

01:34 Malaysia has also received numerous recognition, including from OpenSignal and Okla, which

01:40 have named Malaysia a global leader in 5G connectivity with fast and reliable networks,

01:51 delivering a great 5G experience for consumers.

01:55 We are on track to achieve the target of 80% 5G network coverage in populated areas by

02:01 the end of 2023, before transitioning from the single-wholesale network to a dual-network

02:08 model.

02:10 So ladies and gentlemen, the adoption of 5G technology is a game-changer, with the potential

02:17 of significantly boosting our nation's economy.
