How the coming cooldown in the Northeast could affect tropical development next week

The same weather system that's about to bring an end to summerlike temperatures in the Northeast could affect the formation of a tropical storm in the Caribbean next week. Here's how.

00:00 The big cool down on the northeast this weekend could have tropical impacts well into next

00:05 week in the southeast.

00:06 Yes, you heard that right.

00:07 Bernie Rayno is here to explain.

00:10 Yeah, that big dip in the jet stream, that colder air coming into the northeast and Midwest

00:15 is going to have implications late next week in the tropics.

00:20 How so?

00:21 Well, with this dip in the jet stream coming on south, you know what it's going to end

00:24 up doing?

00:25 It's going to take a cold front and blast it all the way through the southeast as we

00:29 get into Friday and Saturday.

00:31 Then early next week, that frontal boundary, you know what it's going to do?

00:36 It's going to stall across south Florida and also into the southern part of the Gulf of

00:41 Mexico.

00:42 Now, once this front stalls, we're also going to start seeing moisture coming in from the

00:47 Pacific, tropical moisture along this front.

00:50 And what will end up happening is you're going to start getting an area of showers and thunderstorms

00:54 to form along this front, probably about the middle part of the week.

00:58 And these showers and thunderstorms, if they can sit in this area over warm water and start

01:02 to organize, it's possible we could be looking at some tropical development.

01:06 So again, late next week, that's why we're going to keep an eye on this area.

01:09 We'll continue to track Philippe, but once Philippe goes, we start watching this area

01:14 by the end of next week.
