00:00 NGO Malaysia International Search and Rescue, or MISA, organised its third public flood
00:09 survival programme on Sunday to better equip the public with survival skills in the event
00:14 of floods. This time some 200 people from different parts of the Klang Valley acquired
00:20 the necessary knowledge during the event.
00:22 Two years back I had a very bad experience that was affected by the flood at Klang and
00:28 Shalem, so I'm located at the Klang. So when I have that experience it's a very
00:33 worse one for me, especially when I was the only woman in the house, so it's very difficult
00:38 for me to find help immediately. So this flood training has really helped me a lot because
00:44 I thought that if the next things happen again, this will help me a lot. So that's one of
00:49 the reasons I'm joining for this flood training.
00:55 Because I wanted to learn more things and I've been in this since my younger hood at
01:00 that time, and just to do some refresh courses. And because also I always go to hiking, to
01:07 the jungle, so I hope that I can in some help to others.
01:13 MISA founder and chairman K Balasubramaniam said the participants included community leaders,
01:19 senior citizens, people with special needs and family members, and other volunteer groups.
01:25 We are in a crawling stage, you see, that's why a lot of people during the flood in Sri
01:29 Muda, they are not, they are catch off guard because they were not told. So preparations
01:34 are very important. It's better to light a candle than curse the darkness. It's time
01:37 for them to learn something. And this type of program will better equip them. Training
01:42 is like cycling, you stop, you fall. So regularly even government agency or other corporate
01:47 company conduct trainings, they must go and attend. A short training like this will give
01:51 them better equipment.
