00:00My goal is to earn your trust.
00:03My goal is to make sure that we're doing the work
00:06to actually have a City Hall that is capable of delivering on the promises that I made during the campaign.
00:12That's what this transition is about.
00:14That's what the next few weeks are about.
00:16That's what my first 100 days will be about.
00:18We have big challenges here in the city, and they've been in place for a long time.
00:22What we have not had is a City Hall that is capable of taking them on.
00:26That's a promise I made during the campaign, is that we will build that City Hall.
00:30And that is my commitment to every single person, whether you voted for me or you didn't
00:34or you sat out this election completely.
00:36I want to make sure that we can restore your faith in City Hall again.
00:40I just wanted to say how grateful I am for the trust that Angelino's have placed in me
00:48to be their next mayor.
00:50It was a hard-fought campaign.
00:53It was many, many months in the making.
00:55People from across the city welcomed me into their backyards, into their neighborhoods,
01:01told me about their hopes and dreams for the future of this city,
01:05and trusted in me that I would be able to take on the problems that we have.
01:10I'm also so incredibly grateful to the thousands of volunteers that knocked on doors,
01:17made phone calls, sent texts, talked to their neighbors, talked to their families,
01:21talked to their friends, to tell them about a vision for Los Angeles that looks different,
01:26more hopeful than the one that we have today.
01:35I also wanted to express my deepest gratitude for Mayor Bass and her decades of service to the city.
01:42We had an opportunity to speak this morning, and we both share a love for Los Angeles and her service,
01:51her decades of service in Community Coalition, as a nurse in the emergency room,
01:57her decades of activism in South LA, her work in Sacramento, in DC,
02:02and as the first woman mayor of the city.
02:04All of this has made Los Angeles what it is today, in a deeply, deeply inclusive place.
02:09To me, what is the epitome of the American dream?
02:13A place that welcomes people.
02:20A place that welcomes people and invites them to build their dreams here.
02:25Invites them to build their dreams here.
02:26And she helped build that dream here, and I know her service is something that people across America have gratitude
02:34for,
02:34and certainly every person across Los Angeles.
02:37We also committed to working together on the smoothest possible transition for Angelenos.
02:44We love this city.
02:45We want to make it an incredible, incredible place into the future,
02:49and our staffs are already in touch to make sure that every aspect of this mayoral administration handoff
02:56is going to be as smooth as it needs to be in order to ensure that services for Angelenos are
03:02as good as they need to be.
03:04So I want to thank you all for being out here.
03:06And I'm here today because, you know, this morning was when the news was confirmed,
03:13and I'm here with my staff, both from my council office and my campaign,
03:18just to share a few moments of gratitude and togetherness.
03:22So, and I want to thank all of you for being out here as well.
03:24And all of you!
03:27Thank you!
03:28I want to thank all of you for being out here in this moment.
03:39I'm actually having this confirmed.
03:42If you look around, if you see your staff,
03:44think about the fact that you are now going to be the mayor of Los Angeles.
03:55I just, this city has given me and my family so much.
04:00And at a time when, in the federal government, over the past two years,
04:06we've seen a country that has rejected immigrants.
04:10And in so many ways, the immigrant dream, I'm an immigrant to this country.
04:16And this is a city of immigrants in so many ways,
04:18whether they came from across America or whether they came from across the world.
04:23This city has opened its arms to people to come and build their dreams here.
04:27And the idea that Angelenos voted for an immigrant to be their next mayor at this moment
04:33in American history is so deeply moving to me.
04:36And I want to tell every single Angelenos out there,
04:39I am going to work so hard, and everyone behind me is going to work so hard,
04:44to earn your trust, to earn your trust,
04:47and to earn the trust,
04:51to earn the trust of everyone across the city,
04:53and to make people believe in Los Angeles again,
04:56to make people believe in its city hall again.
04:58Yes.
05:10A police union put out a statement today saying that there are LAPD officers andAudners
05:15for answering the questions at the prospect of major encounter LAPD.
05:20Will there be major accounts to LAPD,
05:25You know, I have spoken to leadership at LAPD already.
05:29In fact, I'm speaking to Chief McDonald.
05:33I spoke to him earlier today, and it was one of the first calls that I made.
05:36Because public safety is the most important service that the city is delivering to its people.
05:43It is hands down the most important service.
05:46And I want to make sure that whatever happens over this transition,
05:51that we are prepared to deliver that service at the level that Angelina's expect when I take office in mid
05:57-December.
05:58And I know Chief McDonald is committed to that.
06:00I'm committed to that.
06:01And we'll continue those discussions.
06:03You know, we have published a 100 days plan during the campaign.
06:15I will say that in the few hours between when this election results were confirmed and now,
06:22I have mostly taken congratulatory phone calls and spoken to people and just tried to ensure that our transition is
06:31ready to go.
06:32We have 40 days to build this transition.
06:35It's one of the shortest transitions across the country.
06:38For a city of 4 million people where the challenges are absolutely immense.
06:43That transition is going to be absolutely critical.
06:46And so today's work was about kick-starting that transition with the skills, the people,
06:51and the priorities that we need to make sure that our first 100 days are successful.
06:55That was what today was about.
06:56And when we have more to announce about what that transition looks like
07:00and what the first 100 days will look like, we will share that with you.
07:14You know, I spoke to many of my council colleagues already today,
07:18and I'll continue speaking to them in the days ahead.
07:22And with every single person, the conversation was absolutely the same.
07:28Congratulations to me and my commitment to them.
07:32I'm our shared commitment to working together for the betterment of this city.
07:37No matter what happened during the campaign, that is in the past now.
07:40And all of us, every single member of that city council and I are here because we love Los Angeles.
07:47And we know that we need to work together in order to address the challenges that we have ahead.
07:52And every conversation was about making that commitment to one another and to the people of this city.
07:58We will work together to make it better.
08:11You know, we have the key priorities that we've heard across this entire city are homelessness, housing costs, and public
08:21safety and economic development.
08:23These are the issues that are the four top issues on the minds across every neighborhood.
08:29Whether you were in Studio City, whether you were in Sylmar, whether you were in San Pedro, whether you were
08:34in Wilmington, whether you were in Boyle Heights.
08:35These are the four key issues that came up over and over again.
08:38These will have to be the priorities that I take on in City Hall.
08:41And we will have more plans to share as we are able to roll them out.
08:46Last question.
08:47Last question.
08:48Last question.
08:50Yes.
08:52Yes.
08:56Yes.
09:00So, I know many, many people across the city voted for Mayor Bass or simply didn't participate in this election
09:07at all.
09:08And I think that's a sign of the deep distrust and cynicism that has taken hold here in the city
09:14of Los Angeles.
09:15My goal is to earn your trust.
09:18My goal is to make sure that we're doing the work to actually have a City Hall that is capable
09:24of delivering on the promises that I made during the campaign.
09:27That's what this transition is about.
09:29That's what the next few weeks are about.
09:31That's what my first 100 days will be about.
09:33We have big challenges here in the city, and they've been in place for a long time.
09:38What we have not had is a City Hall that is capable of taking them on.
09:41That's a promise I made during the campaign, is that we will build that City Hall.
09:45And that is my commitment to every single person, whether you voted for me or you didn't or you sat
09:50out this election completely.
09:51I want to make sure that we can restore your faith in City Hall again.
09:55Thank you all so much.
