00:01The Attorney General's Chambers, AGC, has denied accusations of treason or attempting to undermine
00:08royal authority, saying its move to seek judicial clarification over former Prime Minister Datuk
00:14Seri Najib Razak's house arrest is aimed at preventing conflicts between overlapping court
00:19orders and sentences. In a statement issued on Saturday, the AGC responded to allegations by
00:26Najib's legal team, Shafi & Co., which accused the Attorney General of exceeding his authority,
00:32defying royal decrees, and unlawfully prolonging Najib's detention.
00:36The AGC stressed that it fully recognizes the royal prerogative of pardon under Article 42 of
00:43the Federal Constitution and is neither challenging nor seeking to suspend the conditional pardon decree
00:49issued by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. However, it said legal questions had
00:55arisen following Najib's payment of a RM50 million fine on November 6 and the subsequent
01:01issuance of an order of discharge by the Kuala Lumpur High Court. The main issue concerns how the
01:07discharge order in the SRC International case affects the execution of Najib's remaining sentence,
01:13particularly in relation to his separate 1MDB conviction. The AGC said the High Court had
01:20previously ruled that Najib's prison sentence in the 1MDB case must begin immediately after he
01:26completes his SRC International sentence. It also noted that the High Court had rejected an
01:32application to stay the execution of the 1MDB sentence on October 14, 2026. It stressed that
01:40seeking judicial interpretation of how an order should be implemented under existing laws does
01:45not amount to challenging royal authority or interfering with the King's prerogative.
01:50The AGC's statement came on the same day Istana Negara issued a separate statement reaffirming that
01:57the King's conditional pardon decree allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence
02:02under house arrest upon payment of the RM50 million fine was clear and unambiguous.
