00:00 President of the Association of Firework Use Sufferers, Nalini Diyal, says they have had
00:06 consultations with government officials on the matter, but to no avail.
00:11 And to the AG's office, we really need to hear from you what is your proposal you intend
00:18 to come with because we had the meetings with you all and we all suggested either a display
00:25 out on the waterfront on a barge or a total ban of fireworks now to the public.
00:31 We have reached to that point now.
00:34 She tells TV6 that despite their complaints and protests, people continue to set off fireworks
00:41 and they may cause irreversible harm to others.
00:45 And the problem is that the sale is so prevalent, it's all over, you can buy it, you can keep
00:51 it, you can set it off any time, any day, it doesn't even have to be Olympics or Diwali.
00:57 People are very wicked and they don't care about their neighbours or anybody.
01:01 They do it for fun.
01:04 Ms Diyal says the law must be put to use.
01:07 We always come back to enforcing the law.
01:11 There's a part in the draft, they said that people will be ticketed.
01:16 Who's going to give them this ticket?
01:18 We come back again on the night of the celebration, whichever celebration it is, and people are
01:24 setting off fireworks.
01:26 No police.
01:27 You can't even get the police to leave the station to go to check.
01:33 And by the time they reach, the people may have finished with the fireworks.
01:39 Nicole M Romany, TV6 News.
