00:00 It took Peter Shin's 11th victim to notice something unusual in his examination room
00:07 while he was working as a specialist breast surgeon in August 2021.
00:12 Spotting a tissue box with a hole cut out of it, she reported it, suspecting a phone
00:17 was hidden behind it.
00:19 Police then uncovering covert recordings of 10 other victims while he worked at the Flinders
00:25 Medical Centre and the Breast and Endocrine Centre in Adelaide's east, dating back to
00:30 2019.
00:31 Today in court, the magistrate spared the former doctor an immediate jail term but labelled
00:37 his offending as "incredibly disturbing" for the vulnerable victims.
00:41 The court previously heard Shin told police it was hard to explain his exact motivation
00:46 but called it voyeurism.
00:48 His defence lawyer adding, "The explanation he can give the victims is that he was extremely
00:53 concerned with what he had been observing in some of the examinations.
01:01 Trusting a male doctor is a matter of choice for them.
01:05 So if they choose not to have male doctors, it's entirely up to them."
01:12 In deciding not to impose an immediate jail term, the magistrate said he took into account
01:17 Shin's early guilty plea and the fact that he'd lost his medical licence.
01:22 He was given a 20-month suspended sentence with a three-year good behaviour bond.
