The Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) is celebrating its eighth anniversary. A ceremony will be held in the regional alliance's headquarters in Quito, to be attended by Ecuadoran President Rafael Correa among other dignitaries and representatives of the 12 member nations, who will also participate in the inauguration of the South American School of Defense. The creation of the School of Defense is historic and will diminish the influence of the controversial U.S.-based School of the Americas. Liz Scherffius reports from Quito. teleSUR
