00:00Well good afternoon ladies and gentlemen welcome to the boardroom they might not believe it judging
00:09by my youthful exterior that this is the 15th year we've been in this boardroom now during
00:16the 15 years has been a lot of change but back then the word brexit sounded like another Kellogg
00:24cereal in the first boardroom I ever did here I told the candidates then and I'll tell you the same
00:31never ever underestimate me I've had them all in here chances poses brown noses moaning minis big
00:45time Charlie's and half pint Harry's I've seen it all this remains the toughest interview process
00:53but the end of it one of you will be leaving with a 250,000 pound investment in a joint business in
01:04which we will each own 50% this is an opportunity of a lifetime now I've got your CVs here so Shaheen
01:15I'm a charter engineer a working product development for a luxury car manufacturer and some people who
01:22know you call you the Falcon is that right that's right yeah in Arabic my name means Falcon and this
01:29this is the funniest thing you thought of a name in case we go into business yes yes sham strad that's
01:36right yeah do you know what I've never actually fired anybody before the process contender I am a
01:45contender yeah Lottie you're a librarian is that right in a school or sugar yes and you like a bit
01:52of Shakespeare I do indeed they should be but little she is fierce yeah midsummer night's dream act 3 scene
01:59too right I would have to look that up Lord sugar I mean it is it is right told you not to underestimate
02:08me now Suleiman you're a Paralympic athlete that's correct I'm a disabled athlete that uh win pits in
02:15the 100 meters um I have something called tunnel vision so obviously perfect for business I'm very
02:20much focused one of the side effects of not having good sight is that some of your other senses are better
02:27aren't I like your sense of smell yes that's right so that might come in handy because there's plenty
02:31of bullshit gonna go on exactly and Aisha yes I'm a sales manager yeah for an electrical distributor we
02:43say you're a pocket rocket you haven't seen hell till you've seen me mad hmm you sound as scary as an
02:52indoor firework and Ryan mark women's wear consultant at a luxury retailer is that right well I've worked
03:01there for a long time you say I'm like a pig in business yes in the sense sad whatever I want to work
03:12with a pig covered in its business all right well look that's nice to meet you all now let's get down to
03:21business so for the very first task you are going to Cape Town in South Africa this year Cape Town has
03:37been voted the best city in the world to visit its tourism industry is booming and I want you to cash in
03:44so your task is to set up and run a bespoke tour in the countryside around Cape Town you've got to sell
03:55tickets and give your clients an unforgettable experience now let me give you a warning if your
04:03tour doesn't live up to the expectations your clients can ask for their money back the team
04:10that makes the most amount of profit will win and in the losing team one of you will be fired so is
04:18everything clear yes off you go oh my god we're going to kill you that's amazing sorry hi nice to
04:32meet you hi before battling to top each other's tours our manufacturing show pillars believe it or not
04:38oh yeah I've been open I'm so interested a chance to quiz the competition I'm a headhunter so I work the
04:44global markets but I'm not familiar with South Africa at all I deal with multi-million pounds
04:49even multi-billion pound clients on a daily basis this process is going to be a piece of cake in
04:54comparison to that I've got a sports management company so I look after athletes and all the
04:59commercials their business activity in the last year I've broken deals of over half a million US
05:04dollars I'm not here to play games I'm here to win I'm an accountant so you can sort out the pricing
05:10there yeah the numbers yeah the numbers I am disgustingly ambitious I'm extremely competitive I am
05:17Lord Sugar's next business partner Cape Town visited by nearly 2 million people a year excursions in and
05:33around the city a big business charge more for tickets than the tour costs to run and there's
05:42a pretty profit to be made so boys Cape Town South Africa deciding who guides the team has anybody been
05:51to South Africa no no the girls so does anyone want to anybody want to volunteer okay it's not this
06:05isn't my strength in terms of this task I've got lots of leadership experience and I'm very very hot
06:10on profit and loss so that's what we want to do to win ultimately yes everybody happy with scarlet being
06:14p.m. yeah that's fine I am happy fantastic I don't think we've got much choice I came from a travel and
06:23tour as a background across the hall I used to run events in different countries with marketing man
06:29Lewis in the driver's seat you order your project manager next decide what type of tour to run I'm
06:37personally from Africa and I know people come here for one reason that's for safaris and animals lines
06:41like elephant like all that kind of stuff the big five but also remember Cape Town's one of the
06:47vineyards places of the yeah just quickly can I say one thing boys just quickly right you can go a
06:53hundred countries in the world to go and look at wine there's only there's only one effort to go and
06:57see animals do you know what I'm saying Safari I'm happy with Safari done deal I've run these tours
07:02before although my previous customers were 18 30 year olds getting drunk on a booze cruise so it's a
07:07little bit different South Africa is very famous for its wine planning to wow with world-class wines
07:13so we've decided on the wine the girls serve up a price point we're looking through the information
07:21it looks as though average kind of ticket price for a wine store is around 2,000 rand per person two
07:26thousand is a hundred and seven pounds when it comes to wine we could brand it as a luxury experience and
07:31potentially up the price should we go like two thousand five hundred at least two thousand five
07:36hundred sounds thousand five hundred when leads okay so just to clarify then our ticket price for an
07:42individual with two thousand five hundred yeah we can negotiate down to two thousand two hundred if
07:47we're required to do so we should not be doing so high price means high expectations so I think going
07:55for the high end is dangerous because people may want their money back the tour may disappoint because
08:00they're going to promise a lot and possibly under deliver doing the sums for their safari 1850 the
08:08boys I in 50 we offer the best safari just double check 1850 work that out in terms of what that cost in
08:15English it's around 90 pounds yeah they're potentially gonna see the big five more than likely they're
08:19gonna seen the big five is everyone happy I'm happy I'm happy with this cool next decide who plans the
08:26tour and who touts tickets to tourists I've run events I know everything about animals I have a
08:33great personality I engage relentlessly I'm good I've never been on safari or anything like that before
08:38so I couldn't help you with that one but definitely selling tickets because that's what I do I sell
08:42right so this time I'm going to split it on the tour side Ryan with Kenner Ryan Mark and Sullivan
08:49for a sub-team leader I'm gonna go with Ryan okay I'm fine that's a good choice I've got no worries
08:55about selling the tickets we've only got to sell 16 that'll be a piece of piss I think we're gonna
09:00smash listen how can we lose and if we do lose I'll eat me out on team tour is gonna be Lubna Karina
09:09Gemini and latte can I just ask then who would lead that sub-team I'm more than happy to I mean for
09:16example I know that South Africa has a population of 51 million I've got a lot of experience with
09:22hospitality and I've got a lot of experience with leading an event I actually worked in the UK's
09:28best wine bar well I think she's got the knowledge in the wine I think I've got the experience in
09:32leading an event yeah generally if you could lead a sub everybody happy with that yes okay let's go do
09:41this 11 a.m. today half of each team will shift tickets for their tours look we ain't a bunch of
09:52idiots are we we're gonna have no problem showing this whatsoever we're gonna get there smash it
09:56show the tickets go and have a nice bit of dinner and I'm taking all 16 of them boys the rest set off
10:04to plan their excursions what we need to do is work together and just annihilate the boys yeah do we
10:10get to test the way we're gonna have to remember ladies spit don't swallow we need to stay sharp
10:16covering 10,000 hectares and home to hordes of exotic animals Aquila game reserve first job for half the
10:31boys we would like a safari that would last around two to three hours followed by rock painting okay we
10:47do have a package that sells for 995 Rand we were looking at 450 per ticket that's not gonna be
10:58possible no no you need to go back to the drawing board we can't do business on those terms I'm
11:04afraid I understand that realistically do 850 I'm prepared to talk around that number okay how about
11:12if we did 800 per ticket yeah if we got full capacity you would drop it down to 700 per ticket yes
11:21safari manager made it clear that the tour was gonna be 995 Rand what did they go and do offered
11:34a 450 it wasn't a great start because it was an insult it was clear she was never gonna give them
11:40that kind of discount what would you say the likelihood of us seeing the big five is um you
11:46know these animals are in the wild we can't guarantee anything you definitely can't promise no
11:51franjuke Valley cutting a deal for a vineyard tram tour we are planning to do a very luxurious tour
12:02the girls why is the lowest price you can go for 240 Rand per person okay we're gonna bring quite a big
12:11group so what could be the best price you can give to us well look at what I'm prepared to do is if
12:17you could sell all the tickets I'll give you a 30% discount 30% discount if you sell 16 yes yes in order
12:29to achieve the 30% discount they have to have 16 people buying tickets is that achievable can they do
12:35it that's the key at the Victoria and Alfred waterfront 2500 Rand each I don't think so the rest of the
12:46girls push their luxury tour 2500 Rand at premium prices it's 2500 Rand 2500 yes yes okay per person yes
13:02I'm really keen that we hold our nerve with the price of the tickets for me it's it's high price
13:16high profit simple as that I'm expecting that we bring them in top end oh guys don't be deflated
13:22ladies come on we get to show you all the big five animals giving the big five the rhinos the elephants
13:30the lions the big push leopard the Buffalo don't forget the Buffalo Lewis's Safari squad yeah is that
13:37a deal yeah sure yeah fantastic thank you so much you're gonna meet the big five you're gonna see
13:42where they eat where they drink where they make babies would you guys be interested in come on a
13:46tour with us tomorrow yeah the lion the rhino the elephant sounds good than that the selling team are
13:54talking about selling the dream guarantee seeing the big five once you do that you set the expectation
13:59you have to deliver those animals and that's not guaranteed by any stretch of the imagination hey
14:06guys we're having a really really good day we're starting to fill this trip up we're halfway there so
14:12this is the deal we got yeah 700 per person at full capacity okay if we don't get full capacity it's 800
14:19okay okay just a big thing to say don't offer the big five definite because the big five will
14:25probably definitely not be out there's no big five it's not guaranteed okay cool no chaps thank you
14:36very much all right guys I was a bit worried about I'm not having the big five now but you know what
14:43it is like we've not sold as you're gonna see all those animals people are never guaranteed anything
14:46is that correct let's put our fingers out and dance a lot few okay let's go excuse me excuse me excuse
14:53me excuse me 3 p.m. searching for sales do you like wine yeah you're Irish guys you like wine and pouring
15:02on the charm we could offer you two thousand three hundred each beauty brand owner Pamela all of your drink is
15:09included it's the tour there's no extra while you're there and is there like lunch and things that's a
15:13great question yeah yeah yeah we'll feed you we'll feed you we wouldn't be sure we're not gonna let
15:19you start no you know what I mean okay thank you thank you thank you so much hello how's the ticket sales
15:33it's going pretty well we've sold four at 2 300 four just four yeah four we have negotiated that if we get the full um 16 16 we can get a 30% reduction
15:47call down ladies is there any food no there is no food included we've sold that these people will have some kind of food
15:56ladies do not give any of our customers false promises do not offer food we never spoke about food
16:01we're very aware of what we need to do we need you to focus on the experience try to sell as much as you can
16:06bye bye why are they offering food when we never have done about food they don't get it they're gonna
16:14worry this is a massive inconvenience that these girls have caused for us but we're going to have to
16:18do something about it we're going to have to make it work
16:20what happens if you do see an animal while you're out of the truck ryan's rookie rangers golden rule
16:35you stand your ground and you look them straight in the eye now this is definitely a leopard threat oh
16:43oh we found a carcass oh oh oh r.i.p this is what lepers will do they always disembowel
16:51because they eat the inside look at this springbok poo when we grew up this is the games we used to play
17:04wow i am very competitive can i try that try not aim for me but i'll be trying to find where it goes
17:14whoa poo at the vineyard a lesson in wine tasting now i must say i'm so excited about this i worked
17:26in the uk's best wine bar from a local expert i'm going to take you through six wines today is that
17:33last one a peanutage that's correct i absolutely love peanutage how long do they stay fresh after you
17:40up in a bottle you should never really leave it overnight panatage you might get away with
17:46two-ish days but that is again for the cooking the chardonnay it's definitely a more creamier wine
17:53i personally prefer a fresher fruitier wine for example the sauvignon and i would prefer that sort
17:58of on a hot summer's day chardonnay i'm more likely to drink in the winter if i was still having a fish dish
18:04the whole point was to make notes and and absorb the knowledge and lotty just kept interrupting and
18:10trying to take over so i expect lotty to do a really good job tomorrow because if she doesn't
18:15i think we're going to be can i say the word screwed
18:185 p.m how will we present these you know facts and information i think it has to be fun while the
18:26boys map out their safari do you know what guys people don't remember facts and figures they remember
18:31how you made them feel yeah for gemelins half of the girls i don't mind doing the sculpture garden okay
18:37precision planning lubna will be leading the seller yes you lot will be leading their wine testing and i
18:44think we should be there to assist you can you pour wine night like neatly nicely look it's pouring
18:50liquid in a glass how difficult can it be it's a luxury experience and that's what we are trying
18:54to maintain no offense then we are going taking them back into the tram so we can then have so do you
19:01mind letting her finish please because she's a subteam leader and you keep interrupting i'm sorry i'm
19:05contributing i know not interrupting i'm not saying you've just disrupted the entire group so don't
19:09say no i'm not going i'm not disrupting at all
19:176 p.m with one hour to go till sales must cease 600 rand each
19:24scarlet's premium prices plummet 600 is the lowest we can do because we just gave a group of five 600
19:30five minutes to go four tickets still to sell what we've got set up is a safari for shaheen last
19:50shot at a sale um uh i'm gonna see the big five right uh if you're interested listen will you all
20:00be willing to pay 1200 rand no what about yourself what about yourself on the end there
20:09no problem 7 pm selling over be honest with you i'm not putting a neg on anything but i think we
20:19should have sold 16 because we can't go oh fantastic we ain't got 100 percent do you know
20:23what i mean yeah come let's go i think shaheen isn't a natural salesman at times it's quite difficult
20:29to watch almost cringeworthy he didn't make a sale today in a sales task he was on the sales team
20:34business is about being adaptable and he wasn't adaptable today
20:37i hear the big five are going to come out this morning half of each team ready themselves to run
20:52the tours i mean we've got the big four here while the rest collect customers from cape town morning
21:00guys morning morning how many tickets you sold
21:07let's just focus on delivering a really good product how many customers have we got
21:14guys this is why why are you not telling us how many tickets you sold
21:18all right guys so we didn't sell 16 tickets we actually sold 12. so now we got into 16 it's now
21:24we're getting our proper margins left that's right the most important thing for today is avoid refunds
21:29we need to wow these customers yeah guys listen we're going to be a team yeah we're going to smash
21:33it okay okay let's make sure there's no refunds that's key there won't be really fine our side
21:41is going to be cool yeah yeah let's make it happen let's go let's go boys at the vineyard we sold all
21:48the tickets the girls catch up on their cut price customers
21:55cafe cafe cafe how much more how much for the next 11 tickets we sold 600 rand each
22:07that's a massive drop 600 rand that's that leaves us with very little profit there's still a profit
22:14ladies so let's not worry about that okay the experience is going to be amazing i can assure you
22:19that okay all right thank you and i see you soon okay see you soon ladies bye bye bye bye
22:27it's good do you feel positive how is that good 600 rand no but that's too low i am extremely
22:36disappointed with the news from the sales team because if one individual paid 2300 rand for the
22:41same experience that another individual is getting for 600 rands they're not going to be happy customers
22:49you know
22:52cape town hello hello good morning departure point for both tour groups hello girls hello take a seat
23:01we'll look after a minute getting their sold out vineyard tours started pamela we're going to tell
23:07you some interesting facts for the journey south africa has three capital cities cape town
23:13And did you know, there are an estimated 3,000 shipwrecks off the coast of South Africa,
23:26now protected by South African law?
23:29Oh, wow.
23:31In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the highest sleeps at night.
23:43A-wim-a-way, a-wim-a-way, a-wim-a-way, a-wim-a-way, a-wim-a-way, a-wim-a-way, a-wim-a-way, a-wim-a-way, a-wim-a-way.
23:50Best of farming tour in South Africa!
23:56Did you know that just outside Parle is the Drakkenstein Prison,
24:02where Nelson Mandela completed his last, or his long walk to freedom?
24:13Everyone excited?
24:14Hooray!
24:15Yes!
24:161pm.
24:17Hi, guys!
24:19The game reserve.
24:21The guests are in a great mood.
24:22They're all revved up and ready to go.
24:23Let's not lose any of them.
24:24Let's not lose any of them.
24:25It's only going to get better and better and better, honestly.
24:27That's what I want to hear.
24:28Bring the guests through.
24:29Let's do this.
24:30If those fantastic guests that we've just made friends with today
24:33come back deflated after that safari tour,
24:35I will personally feed the other team to the Lions.
24:40My name is Ranger Ryan.
24:42I know you're expecting David Attenborough,
24:44but unfortunately he's filming Ploud of Earth,
24:46so you've got me.
24:47We're going to do a magical safari.
24:49You're going to see so many animals,
24:51but obviously we can't, you know, guarantee the Big Five.
24:56So, we're not guaranteed to see the Big Five today, or are we?
24:59Hopefully a couple of them will be out.
25:01The ones who saw the tour yesterday,
25:03they said we were definitely going to see the Big Five,
25:05so that's why I'm asking now.
25:06Well, what we can guarantee you
25:07is that you'll see amazing animals out there.
25:09And the Big Five, really,
25:10a bit like the team on the bus.
25:11You just can't predict what they're going to do.
25:13They're going to make a lot of noise.
25:15So, please, let's go forward on this journey,
25:17and it will be amazing.
25:18So, woo!
25:22The sales team have guaranteed their customers
25:24they're going to see the Big Five.
25:26Well, the tour team can't rustle them up out of the bush.
25:29They're wild animals.
25:30This is not zoo.
25:31Customers might end up seeing nothing at all.
25:34Ladies and gents, we're now entering the safari.
25:37So, hold on.
25:38Keep your eyes peeled and enjoy.
25:46Cork popped on the girls' tour.
25:48First stop, the sculpture garden.
25:51So, should we head on?
25:53Follow me.
25:54Leading the way, bakery owner, Carina.
25:57So, Anton Smith is the designer of all the pieces here in the garden.
26:02Anton's, like, main tools that he uses are metal and stone.
26:06Yeah, so, yeah.
26:07Does what it says on the tin.
26:12Feel free, walk around, and then we can sort of regroup in five minutes.
26:18Yeah?
26:19Yeah, go off.
26:20Yeah.
26:21Feel free.
26:22Enjoy.
26:23Carina spent about one minute describing the sculpture garden.
26:26Talked about something in metal.
26:27Didn't know anything.
26:28Actually, she's got no facts at all.
26:30Can we give them a little bit more facts?
26:32Because, obviously, they're half-paid for a luxury tour.
26:35Yeah, yeah.
26:36We can't just give them one.
26:37I'm not going to bore them because I don't want to give them false information.
26:39We're going to move them on and find the cellar.
26:40Yes.
26:41Agreed?
26:42Okay.
26:45On the boys' safari...
26:46Take a moment, breathe in the African air.
26:50First stop, the watering hole.
26:52See the hippos.
26:53Enjoy the sun.
26:55How old are the hippos?
26:56How old are they?
27:00I think they have a lifespan of up to 70 years.
27:03But that is unconfirmed.
27:04This is what I'm going on 70 years.
27:07But to be completely honest, I think that 70 years, I could be wrong.
27:12But this is what I think it is.
27:14Do they get many children?
27:16Do they get many children?
27:17I think they do.
27:18I think they're one of the animals that do enjoy mating.
27:21So...
27:24So, plenty of kids.
27:27If I were you, I'd move on.
27:29Mid-afternoon.
27:37Uh, 16.
27:38Okay, ladies and gentlemen, we have got everybody.
27:41Girls guests gathered.
27:42We're going to go to the cellar.
27:43So, if you all just follow us this way.
27:45We're going this way.
27:46Fantastic.
27:47Lugna leads the way.
27:48Let's just go this way.
27:49Lugna, the cellar is in that direction.
27:51Let's go that way.
27:52Let's go.
27:53Let's go.
27:54Lugna.
27:55Okay, fantastic.
27:56This could be a dead end.
27:57Are you sure it's here?
27:58Because on the map it was over there.
27:59On the right-hand side.
28:00Guys, right-hand side.
28:01It's right on the side.
28:02Let's go this way.
28:03The shop.
28:04No, this is not what it is.
28:06I said it's over there.
28:07That's what I said.
28:08This is so bad.
28:09Jesus Christ, guys.
28:11I think this is a bit of a dead end at the moment,
28:13but there is a way going the other way, the original way I said.
28:16So, let's go that way.
28:17We'll go back.
28:18Yes.
28:19We've got a farcical situation now.
28:21This is far from luxury when people are wandering around backwards and forwards,
28:24trying to find the wine cellar.
28:26Honestly, I think it's awful.
28:27Towards the right.
28:28Sorry, not inside.
28:29He said land.
28:30The lady just said land.
28:31Where is he?
28:34Ladies and gentlemen, on your right approaching, we have the zebra.
28:39On display at the game reserve.
28:41Ladies and gentlemen, as you can see, we're approaching three large giraffes.
28:45Some of South Africa's most impressive inhabitants.
28:49Is there any animal you're looking to see now?
28:52Elephant.
28:53I think we will see elephant.
28:57And if you look to your left now, there's the elephant.
29:02The rhino.
29:04What?
29:05Oh my goodness.
29:06They're rhinos.
29:07They're rhinos.
29:08The elephants will come.
29:09While the boys tick off the first of the big five.
29:10I think here, this way, please, everybody.
29:11Still searching for the cellar.
29:12For you all, come inside, please.
29:14The girls.
29:15Is that the cellar?
29:16This is the fermentation.
29:17Okay.
29:18It's not the cellar.
29:19Can we all grab it together?
29:20Can we all grab it together here?
29:22So this is potentially as close as it's going to get to the cellar.
29:23But I'm going to give you a few facts about it anyway.
29:24It's one of the first in the whole of the Cape Town area.
29:25To basically, what's the word now?
29:26Having a little bit of a fog.
29:27To make wine using an imported Tuscan clay.
29:29So that's the only thing.
29:30Is that the cellar?
29:31Is that the cellar?
29:32This is the fermentation.
29:33Okay.
29:34It's not the cellar.
29:35Can we all grab it together?
29:36Can we all grab it together here?
29:38So this is potentially as close as it's going to get to the cellar.
29:40But I'm going to give you a few facts about it anyway.
29:42It's one of the first in the whole of the Cape Town area.
29:45To basically, what's the word now?
29:48Having a little bit of a fog.
29:51Make wine using an imported Tuscan clay.
29:55clay so that's that's um about the cellar hopefully i think so far it's not going well
30:01because to be honest all the customers looked bored i think they just want to get on to doing
30:04the wine part and i'm quite worried wine tasting everyone agreed i think we need to get okay let's
30:11go thank you thank you for listening thank you let's shake hands at 36 percent while the rest
30:19of the girls lock down commission at the vineyard shop deal brilliant thank you so much all right
30:24heading up a deal on safari souvenirs we as a team have brought 12 people to the ranch today okay
30:31pillow salesman thomas i can bring them into here but only if you give me a small commission
30:37i can give you three percent oh i might as put on the bus okay because i was thinking a lot more than
30:42that five percent no it's still we're still nowhere near i'll have 40 percent you'll have five percent
30:50forty percent five forty five just give us 25 percent and i'll shake you around now on the
30:56whole lot how's that sound please come on the net okay so if if we listen why don't we meet in the
31:02middle then right can we make it 22 and a half percent any spend
31:06i think i think i think the net would have gone for the 25 but now you said it we're gonna have
31:14to do it so 22 and a half it is all right bill 22 and a half yeah thank you thank you i thought thomas's
31:21negotiation was getting a bit aggressive a bit uh confrontational and i thought you know what let's
31:27just offer 22 and a half percent i think she liked that and she accepted it i've got up 19 yeah to 25
31:34and then i'm trying to do it when you've gone no let's just do 20 and a half like you should
31:38just listen listen what's done is done right it's 22 and a half percent it's still over it i didn't
31:41need no help mate well i think you did we're now entering the danger zone back on safari we've got
31:51some of the cast of the lion king two of the big five ticked off how does a lion like its stake three
31:58still to find raw oh dear for the girls ladies and gentlemen a wine tasting led by librarian lottie
32:13in your first glass you've got a really beautiful chardonnay it's got a really really beautiful
32:20butter scotch caramel flavor take your time with the wine get to know it get to know its personality
32:28what comes on the palette just enjoy it and really take in those flavors we got off to a really bad
32:36start but i like to think i have pulled it around everybody is really enthusiastic they are enjoying
32:41the wines i do think though i should have been sub team leader due to what you have seen here we've
32:47actually organized some really beautiful cheese boards for you to share one between two help
32:52yourselves at their last scheduled stop african safari for the boys decision time we don't have much
33:04time we need to finish the safari and then we need to get to the rock painting i think it's crucial that
33:08we get to see the elephants because we ask all of the guests and that's one of the big things that
33:11they want to see on this tour yeah their customers have been guaranteed to see the big five
33:17well they've only seen two of those now they're gonna have to either decide to keep on going or
33:22get back in time for the rock painting ladies and gents we've been to our last stop so we're now
33:29going to take a beautiful scenic drive past the elephants fingers crossed so now sit back relax and
33:36love life thank you they're supposed to be here right now starting this class they're not here
33:45waiting to run the rock painting master class if we don't do this in time we're going to lose money
33:50in that gift shop as well the rest of the boys it's not great is it we promised some rock painting
33:56however we don't want them here too long because we want them in the shop and we do want to make those
33:59sales we'll get this done quickly all right but don't look like you're rushing it tracking down
34:08the elephants can you see here some elephant poo ryan's rangers yes the elephant this is the moment we
34:18have all been waiting for the moment has arrived oh my goodness oh my goodness look at that oh wow
34:27make sure you take it all in guys amazing it's the first question that we all asked was what animal
34:33you wanted to see and now we have seen the elephants how excited is everyone for the rock painting
34:39yes let's keep the energy high goodbye elephant bye bye
34:44am i right in saying that that was elephantastic
34:53one hour to go cashing in on commission at the vineyard shop so that's 140 round for one bottle
34:59of pinotage yeah yeah great sold the girls i'm gonna buy a can we just a case of yes can we have two
35:07moments i'm not talking in front of customers about this can i just i would love the opportunity to
35:12lead that due to the fact that i have really let this lead an amazing can i just talk for one
35:17minute i know more about the wine than you do if i'm able to he already wants the wine he doesn't
35:24want to make a decision you will be making the sale because thank you gentlemen i really appreciate
35:29that's your decision thank you please please please okay i'm going to go and do that now i'd appreciate
35:34it if there wasn't a crowd so we don't absolutely fantastic thank you very much sir thank you
35:44finally back at base we are now going to do a traditional rock painting session for the boys
35:50guests a rapid lesson in rock painting right paint that's it that's it how's your run getting on
36:00need to wrap this up and then move on to the give show yeah okay are we done quick quick quick
36:05have you finished beautiful present your one that it looks beautiful fantastic
36:10done done done done done yeah done mate half an hour till coaches leave we have got an absolutely
36:18fantastic deal on today for both teams we now got to stop in the souvenir shop and have a look at the
36:22gifts a final push for sales that was a really beautiful wine really zesty with the um guava and
36:29the light she fruit hi there guys what was your favorite wine that you tried the shiraz it won't fit in
36:37my bag i already had to buy a second bag how about the carry-on one bottle each i'd say ladies yeah should we
36:43do it i take one of the first fantastic deal yeah i like it well you get it take it home remind yourself
36:51of south africa thank you so much enjoy thank you ever so much cheers 7 pm i really hope that you enjoy
37:04those i'm sure that you will we're a little bit late that may have hindered sales it may be the difference
37:11between we're not losing but key to this task is no refunds and from our side i think we're all
37:16confident that we're not going to get 100 percent satisfaction with what we delivered without a doubt
37:21the selling team have really failed in many ways they really under delivered in terms of selling the
37:26tickets they also made a promise to the guests that we will be guaranteeing the big five when actually
37:33we got three hopefully we get no refunds yeah hopefully now we get the profits in and we win the
37:38task so well done everybody i really hope there are no refunds i do believe though that that if
37:45anyone is looking for a refund it will be down to the experience of the day we brought the 16 people
37:50here once they got off that coach it was in the other team's hands you didn't really just say go power
37:58tonight takings will be totaled refunds reviewed tomorrow an outing at the boardroom
38:15you can all go through to the boardroom
38:28well ladies and gentlemen for this task you had to set up a bespoke tour and sell tickets for it so
38:46i'll start off with the boys team lewis you chose to be the project manager is that right yes so uh we
38:55we looked at what we thought people might want to do in south africa we decided on a safari ryan you
39:01were the sub team lead yes right so you had to negotiate the kind of entrance fee yeah so her deal
39:08was a safari for 995 i got it down to 800 per ticket and 700 per ticket if we filled with 16. okay so if you
39:18sell the whole 16 you got discount fair enough this was after you making a derisory offer of 450. well i was
39:25going to go in there yeah lord sugar lord sugar if i may speak as soon as he made his offer 400
39:29she won't she was almost offended and then what did you do after that went straight up to 850. one
39:33minute please one minute please then i went oh can we do it for 800 and then give you props give
39:37you props right that doesn't give you right that's a lie because i said 450 and you said
39:42450 apologies yeah and then she would let me let me finish she's no no i was still finishing right right
39:46let me again you haven't said the right figure you said anyway look look then you had to learn about the
39:52safari right we got taken out um by a guy called memory so he talked about how when he was a child
39:57we used to play a game where they took some very hard uh springbok poo and see who could spit it the
40:02furthest and i thought since i'm here i might as well well get stuck in with the culture it's like a
40:07palette size i did hear the story i thought it was rather hard to swallow
40:12uh anyway let's talk about the sales team what was the deal that you were offering the clients then
40:20so they would go on a safari with a ranger and see the big five animals we told them do not offer
40:26the big five because we're not mother nature we can't tell the animals to come out we said do not
40:30say and i was like really do not say because you can't deliver and we emphasize this on arrival
40:36you saw this on the phone and i actually repeated what you said we're not going to offer
40:39you're not offered the big five we said that i i had some outlandish claims
40:44dean i think you said no problem i'll sell all 16 leave it to me yeah and then you thomas said yeah
40:55yeah we'll get it done so fast we'll have enough time to go and have a nice meal is that right
41:00probably sound i'll say yeah they only sold 12 tickets all right moving on from there then
41:08they're supposed to go on a two-hour safari you went on a four hours it was well we knew that there was
41:14elephants uh we decided should we take 15 minutes off the rock painting to give them that experience
41:18they all wanted to see the elephants so the rock painting i think took place in the dark is that
41:23right fast as well and then you had about 15 minutes in the souvenir shopping yes yeah what was enough
41:30to be honest they came in safari is all about selling merchandise yes i mean even the zebras come with
41:36their own barcode all right ladies i understand from where you're sitting there scarlet that you
41:44chose to be the project manager is that right yeah strategy for selling was ultimately high price high
41:51profit um i looked at the price for your tickets going to be well we were shooting for 2500 rands
42:00really we felt that if we started higher than if we needed to negotiate lower of course that gave us a
42:04lot of room to be able to do so yeah and i think you said whatever happens do not sell below 2000 is
42:12that right at that point yes okay and then it was coming towards the end of the day and we were very
42:19conscious that we needed to get all 16 seats filled and we dropped our ticket sale price to 600 rand per
42:25person i think you made a fatal error there and the fatal error was sticking out to this exorbitant price
42:33and not reducing it to something more reasonable when you had an audience that you could sell to
42:38uh an indian went off panicking selling it to a load of backpackers anyway the tour team um so yeah
42:45so i was meant to lead the negotiation and i managed to get 30 percent off if we filled the whole what was
42:50the price initial starting price 240 rand per person that's what they asked for yeah and what did we end
42:56up paying 168 per person okay so who negotiated that you two me no it was generally it was mainly me
43:03gemmelin but um i thought that there wasn't much of a negotiation it was more german asking what what
43:08would you like to give us what would you like to give us all right um claude tells me that when you
43:14try to find the seller on the tour it reminded him of a benny hill sketch
43:21when they decided that they were going to do the cellar i said okay and then when they decided to
43:27mess up the cellar by going through the facts about the cellar in the fermentation room which
43:32was perhaps we can say that yes because we couldn't find the cellar and that was meant to be your bit
43:37you're you're you needed to lead that and i don't think you actually let that but you lost didn't you
43:43am i getting confused in the in the vineyard or somewhere else you lost the tour group i was giving them
43:49or they just run away no they didn't run away i gave them every fact i had on the sculpture garden
43:56and then after that is when they sort of split up then was naturally meant to move on to the cellar
44:01which we couldn't find hmm it wasn't professional eventually they must have been going let's let me
44:07have some wine for god's sake yeah they did get to that stage and then we went to the master class
44:12which lotty started and she did a really good job yeah i heard i heard that she she did quite a good
44:19job in fact if it wasn't for her you'd be right in this chair i think i think we've um spoken um enough
44:27now we better get down to it's numbers so claude could you tell me what the girls total spend was
44:36the girls total spend was 233 pounds and 49 pence and when it came to the ticket sales and wine
44:43sales those amounted to 1003 pounds 45 pence right okay any refunds yes well unsurprisingly the
44:53guests that pay the top ticket price didn't feel they got the luxury wine experience they were sold
44:59so that led to refunds totaling 249 pounds and three pence giving an overall profit of just 520
45:06pounds and 93. karen same question well the boys spent a lot more on their tour actually uh 510 pounds
45:15and 84 pence but they didn't have any refunds their total ticket sales and souvenir sales well alan
45:24actually they only sold 12 tickets and they had a pathetic five pound commission from the shop
45:29so that total came to 987 pounds and three pence leaving to an overall profit of 476 pounds and 19 pence
45:42that's it you won it by 44 pounds there you go anyway ladies you have a little treat you're
45:51you're going to back to this fabulous home that i've rented for you there's champagne on ice
45:58so go get settled in have some rest and i'll see you on the next house okay thank you
46:03well gentlemen you will go off and uh have a discussion amongst yourselves i'll bring you back in this
46:22boardroom here and we'll go into it a little bit more detail okay off you go
46:33oh my god wow i think that my whole house could probably fit in this room
46:45i've demonstrated that i'm a strong leader that people engage with me they're happy to be led by me
46:49i've absolutely got my eyes on the prize is this like your house lucky less modern
46:54oh my goodness there's a lift in my opinion lubner is lacking in drive passion and cooperation it makes
47:02it incredibly difficult to work with but i don't think i will have to deal with her for long oh my
47:08god can you just push me in or i'm just gonna go in myself lottie likes a little drama around her
47:14she wants to be the center of attention first she stitches people up and then she makes it like she's
47:20saved the day but she hasn't she's stitched everyone up one team one dream long met last
47:33at the end of the day we didn't sell enough tickets shaheen unfortunately you didn't sell
47:37at all you were desperate when i was talking to i was desperate yeah the failure of this task
47:42would be down to ryan if all of our customers spent five pounds each in that gift shop
47:49then we would have won the task we still managed to exceed the expectations of the guests
47:54yeah that's why i'm saying that we can guarantee the big five who did it was a guest who said why
48:00are we not going to guarantee the big five the task was lost clearly by the sales team and it's
48:06ultimately down to lewis and the way he was able to deal with it as project manager we overran in our
48:11tour meaning the guests didn't get back in time to buy things from the gift shop we lost a couple of
48:15minutes went to the elephant chair they still had time in the gift shop a few people didn't want to
48:18buy the people that wanted to buy we sold to okay i can see that i'm going to be a really strong
48:23candidate because i can see how i'm strong in the other candidates i've just got to make sure i stay in
48:28this process enough time to prove it
48:41can you uh send the candidates in please
48:53right well
48:59you went on safari but in this boardroom one of you is going to be an endangered species
49:06because one of you will be going home dean you said i'll sell these 16 tickets on my own leave it to
49:14me i think as a selling team we all pulled our weights bar shaheen but i think shaheen had plenty
49:20of opportunities to sell and unfortunately what's what's with shaheen hold on a minute there was four
49:24of you wasn't there yeah my um my fault sir i'll talk to about is that it was a lot harder than what
49:32i thought and i hold my hands up even i get my best shot and i did uh bring 4 200 rands in profit
49:39towards the whole the whole team uh profit which is a more or less half see i would have thought in
49:46the company of all those natural predators that the falcon there would be in his element my skill set
49:53is around uh project management now unfortunately i didn't close the deal and that's something that
49:59i've learned anyway he was out there telling people that they're going to see the big five
50:05this is not a bloody zoo you can't set your clock saying right well two o'clock we're going to see
50:11the lions uh three o'clock we're going to see the giraffes this is 10.2 thousand hectares right from the
50:18start one of the guests raised a point of information that your team guaranteed that they would see the
50:26big five so automatically it could have set us up for failure at the end of the day right if we were
50:32there on time they would have more time in the shop and i think they would have spent more at the end
50:35of the day if you guys sold four more tickets we would have made 1 600 round extra on the extra 100
50:41discount i got on each ticket you should have discounted right at the last minute dropped it
50:45like the girls did we should have had better profit margins what i want to know is you started with 400
50:50why did kenna then jump in at 8 50. because her immediate reaction was absolutely not yeah but
50:55her immediate reaction was absolutely not but instead of letting me negotiate you jumped straight
51:00in sorry instead of instead instead of instead of jumping in you should have just said well what
51:04would you be happy with okay and then you can work from there she said nine nine five i say let me yes
51:10of course lord sugar at the end of the day from a tour team side we delivered what we could we offered
51:16the customers a chance to see three of the big five they didn't deliver enough time for them to come
51:20and sell some stuff i agree but one of the main parts from us is to get no refunds and to provide
51:25people with an experience they won't forget in cape town and i think we've achieved that the thing is
51:29is that there was an opportunity to make some dough in the shop in regards and you got there late in
51:35regards to you took five pounds commission that's all you got in regards to the gift shop the sales
51:41team were involved in making the commission you know set the commission with yeah he set the commission
51:46with a gift shop yeah she started at three percent i said i might be three percent went back and
51:50forward i said i'll tell you what we'll do i'll leave it i'll put them straight on the bus they
51:53won't go in your shop and then i got her up and got her up and as i was i knew i knew i had her
51:58for much more and you i'll tell you what 22.5 and i looked you know why did you do that no no you
52:02dived then you know the thing is it's irrelevant what you got because you didn't sell in commission
52:08because you sold nothing i think ultimately if you look at the overall task it was a selling team
52:13that really lets us all down and like i said even if they did the last four super cheap they knew
52:17we were going to sell at 18 if you sold the last couple of tickets for like 500 then get the 1600
52:22i got on top okay so look you know we can go on and on and on about this lewis i'm going to ask you
52:28now which two people are you bringing back in the boardroom listening to these guys tell me that they
52:34made that decision to stay out longer because it was on the benefit of the guest i just i can't bring
52:38any of them in i have to bring in the sales team and i can't bring in thomas because he sold the most
52:43tickets so i have to bring back there's the two that's all the lowest dean and shaheem okay bad
52:51decision lewis gentlemen back to the house
52:53i'd like you three to step outside i'm going to discuss this matter but at least one of you will be
53:08fired okay off you go
53:10well lewis uh took on the job his business idea to go into business with you is to run a travel
53:28company he had a great tour at a low price and he couldn't sell all the tickets and he only had 16
53:33to sell and that should put an element of doubt in your mind yeah and then you got dean he made
53:40a lot of promises that within the hour he'd be able to sell all 16 tickets himself actually he
53:44sold three is that right carrie yeah so really he failed miserably in terms of the thing that he said
53:48he was best at but then we got shaheen that didn't sell anything he also jumped in and cut across thomas
53:56and agreed a lower commission right at the point where thomas was about to get a higher commission
54:01yeah i got that and i don't know why he did that
54:03could you send the three of them in please
54:17well lewis um here's a man who's come here to get 250 000 pounds from me to go into business
54:29to do travel and here's a man who has just done a travel task and has lost
54:37don't sound too good does it it sounds terrible it's uh they were very slim margins i i still stand by the
54:44fact we ran a very successful tour in the sales side that's where the issues lie we didn't sell
54:49enough tickets remember you entrusted the tour group to negotiate the buying price of your product
54:56and if the buying price of the product is low enough your profit margin will be higher you're
55:00right you didn't get the best discount the best negotiated price but that still wasn't where the
55:04failure of the task was in my eyes it was the fact we didn't sell enough tickets shaheen uh one of
55:09your best business skills you say is having a plan and being able to execute the plan the plan that
55:17lewis had was a poor plan and if i was a pm for this task i would have delivered you've just and the
55:23key thing for me would be you you picked the wrong team from i thought it was in hindsight do you think
55:27it would have been selling hang on how can you put me in selling when you got ryan mark right who sells
55:32in harrods for a living look in hindsight i think it might have been a good decision to put shaheen on the
55:36other team no because that's not great i'm sorry irrespective of that right you're gonna keep
55:40talking let me respond to you you should keep talking about random points let me respond to
55:44your points let me just i'm not finished what am i doing here be honest be honest and be honest
55:47to lord sugar what am i doing the only reason you're here is because as i said i had to make
55:51the right decision although those guys there they didn't they didn't they were late right and they
55:56didn't get back in time for the sales at the gift shop but timing is the basics of business
56:01guys one at a time the reason i brought you back is because i said
56:05it's a sales responsibility i don't care if you think you sold more than anyone i sold 40 because
56:09i sold in the shop but i'm still sat here because if even if it wasn't i want to be brought back in
56:12it's a sales team's responsibility and also you can't open up and also you can't stop you don't have
56:16what you've done and you don't i'm sorry it's not right you don't have three tickets correct yeah
56:20i'm really proud of you unfortunately you're here because we didn't sell as much as i've got a question
