27 September - National weather forecast presented by Alex Burkill
Transcript
00:00Good morning, happy Saturday. There's a bit of wet weather around, not for all of us, but particularly across western parts.
00:06It is going to be fairly wet through today. That's because there's a band of rain that's pushing its way in.
00:12It's already spread across much of Northern Ireland through the last few hours and is now pushing into western parts of Scotland.
00:18Ahead of this, a few outbreaks of rain across central southern England and Wales as well,
00:23but it's really across Northern Ireland and western, southwestern Scotland where the rain is going to be heaviest today.
00:28Widely across Northern Ireland, we're looking at 15 to 25 millimetres, perhaps locally up to 50 millimetres,
00:34and a bit more than this across some parts of southwest Scotland where we could see 60, 70 millimetres perhaps.
00:40Even some model runs recently have been suggesting close to 100 millimetres, which may be overdoing it a little bit.
00:48Nonetheless, it shows that there's the potential for some impacts from the wet weather,
00:52some heavy rain leading to a bit of flooding, travel disruption, that kind of thing,
00:56which is why we do have a couple of warnings in force.
00:59Also, a bit of rain with that front reaching far western parts of Wales as we go through the afternoon,
01:04maybe towards Cornwall as well, but many other places across England and across eastern parts of Scotland
01:09having a largely fine picture with some decent sunshine, more sunshine than we saw yesterday across eastern parts of England.
01:16And with that, it's going to be feeling warmer as well.
01:18Temperatures getting into the high teens Celsius for some of us, though, in the west with the rain.
01:24Well, it's going to be mid-teens and feeling fairly unpleasant at times.
01:27Also need to factor in some brisk winds with this front and also towards the northern isles,
01:31some blustery winds as well through the day.
01:34Later on, that front does make its way eastward, still some heavy bursts of rain across northern areas.
01:39Further south, it's not really bringing a huge amount of rain.
01:41In fact, across many parts of England, we're only looking at a few millimetres, if that, across some parts.
01:47A very different story to what's going to be happening further north.
01:51And though, worth bearing in mind that front takes a while to clear across some eastern, southeastern parts of England,
01:57it's actually going to linger as we go through the early hours and through large chunks of tomorrow
02:02whilst it clears away from other places, albeit with a hangback of sherry rain across parts of Scotland.
02:08Behind the front as it clears through, there's some clearer weather.
02:11So it will actually turn brighter across northern Ireland later on this afternoon.
02:15And then clearer skies developing as we go overnight.
02:18And where you get the cloud lingering, it's going to be quite mild.
02:20And where you get the clearer skies, well, it's going to turn that little bit fresher.
02:24Not perhaps as chilly as some nights earlier on this week, but nonetheless, a fresh start to the day tomorrow morning.
02:30And then a slow start to the day across eastern parts of England because of that front that's lingering.
02:34And it may take quite a while to clear away.
02:37Still not a huge amount of rain, but just a bit damp and grey at times.
02:41Meanwhile, further north, a showery burst of rain continuing for a little while across parts of Scotland.
02:46Some blustery winds to add with that across the northern Isles.
02:49Could be touching gales at times, so a bit wet and windy.
02:52Elsewhere across the rest of Scotland, perhaps a brighter day than today.
02:57Better chance of seeing some sunshine breaking through.
03:00And across parts of Northern Ireland, Northern England, Northern Wales, yes, there will be a few showers moving through at times.
03:05But also a fair deal of dry and at times sunny weather as well.
03:08And again, the sunshine, well, that's all important in terms of how warm it's going to be.
03:13And how warm it's going to feel as well in the sunshine, feeling warm enough if you're under the cloud.
03:18Especially if you get any rain and with the stronger winds towards the north, feeling that bit fresher.
03:23Then as we go into next week, well, we get a bit of a northwest-southeast split.
03:28High pressure towards the southeast.
03:30Front's trying to come in from the northwest.
03:32And exactly where that boundary lies, well, that's still all to play for.
03:36Nonetheless, once the system fully clears away through on Monday, Monday's largely dry.
03:41But then Tuesday and Wednesday, likely to see some wetter, at times windier weather edging into northern and western parts.
03:48Perhaps further south and east you are, the greater chance you have of staying largely dry.
03:54Details as to exactly where we're going to see the wetter weather, well, they will firm up nearer the time.
