Sir Alex Ferguson insists he does not need to add to his Manchester United squad but has refused to confirm or deny his interest in signing Mesut Ozil.

United boss Ferguson watched his side beat Chelsea 3-1 in Sunday's Community Shield and immediately declared he had the resources to wrest the Premier League from them as well.

"It happens when you don't win the title - everyone's the same: 'We must do it the next year'," Ferguson said.

"We're going into this season at the moment - touch wood - not with any real major injuries with the present squad. If we can keep that present squad together, it'll put us in a really good position."

Yet Ferguson was at Craven Cottage on Saturday, where Ozil's Werder Bremen side were playing Fulham in a pre-season friendly.

Ferguson hinted he was an admirer of the 21-year-old - one of the stars of the World Cup - but asked if he was interested in bringing the playmaker to Old Trafford, he replied: "I don't know."
