00:00And the question is, should this week impact what they do when it comes to trade deadline?
00:06I'm kind of like on the same on the level playing field with a man Peter Rosenberg just got off
00:14where this week shouldn't make that big of a difference based on what you're going to do.
00:18Because all in all essence, you're still in it.
00:21You know, yes, it's getting farther to the season, but you are.
00:24So I don't think they need to just if something were to go wrong, I'm just thinking positive.
00:28They're going to win a damn game.
00:30And if they were to bring somebody in, that person can't be a rental.
00:34It has to be somebody that's going to be able to help you more than one year.
00:36It's the spin the Nats put on their trade deadline of we're buying and selling.
00:41I don't want to hear all that.
00:43I think, I mean, the only unfortunate way that this week's game could decidedly make an impact at the trade
00:49deadline would be an injury.
00:50We're not going to speculate on injuries, obviously.
00:53I think because, it sucks because I don't think there's a way the Eagles beat the Giants this weekend.
01:03Crazy things happen, but that Eagles team is now just so depleted.
01:06They're now going to a new quarterback.
01:09Game's in Philly.
01:10Like, if the Giants had a difficult opponent this week where we thought they could lose and then Washington wins
01:16and then that game next Thursday night is truly for first place in the division,
01:19Cowboys are still in there.
01:21We'll see if they can ever get their ass together.
01:23I just don't think you can be that reactionary as really the only outcome that I cannot fathom or explain
01:34or validate,
01:35and we see this type of stuff happen, and I do not expect it.
01:39I want to give Peters credit.
01:41He's had a good offseason.
01:42Like, this draft looks like his best draft yet.
01:45Maybe the 24 draft stays on top because they got a quarterback,
01:49but just between Sonny and Antonio, it looks like they have two big hits, right?
01:56By and large, this offseason, like, they added Rasul Douglas in July.
02:00He's been a big hit for them.
02:02Amik Robertson has been really good for them.
02:05Chigakonkwo looks like the player they needed, right?
02:07Like, they had some real pluses as in free agency and with the draft.
02:12So, I want to give Peters credit.
02:14I don't think he will feel the need to make a move just to make a move,
02:20and I don't think there's anything wrong with standing Pat.
02:23If you just decide right now we have all seven of our draft picks, we're going to chill,
02:28we're going to hopefully get a little healthier and see what our guys have,
02:32I can wrap my brain around that.
02:35If they decide to add a piece, especially you and I have talked about Brian Thomas at length here.
02:40If you think you're getting a distressed asset at an advantageous price
02:45because he has shown a lot and now appears to be invisible,
02:48the flip side of that is in Jacksonville,
02:52I think both Parker Washington and Jacoby Myers are headed to free agency.
02:55Jacksonville might not want to move Brian Thomas,
02:58even if they're not getting much from him right now.
03:01And, obviously, the Jags have a good thing going right now.
03:04Maybe you just don't want to upset that apple cart.
03:06They're not using him.
03:08Tishler brought up bringing in some offensive line help at a reduced cost,
03:13which I think could make sense.
03:15I mean, you've had a couple big injuries on your D-line, like maybe something there.
03:19I also think they could be sellers.
03:22If you get smoked by the Rams and somebody makes you an offer,
03:27the veteran player that I thought would make the most sense as a possible trade piece was Deron Payne.
03:31He's injured.
03:32They're not going to trade him, obviously.
03:33We have heard the speculation surrounding Mikey Sammer still.
03:37I think that could make sense.
03:38Maybe it's just a guy who needs a fresh start.
03:41Let's let the people on the phones weigh in.
03:42My guy Blake down in Wilmington.
03:45What's up, Blake?
03:46Buying, selling, standing pat?
03:47What do you want the commanders to do?
03:50Well, I think, like you just said, it depends a lot on what happens.
03:53I appreciate you guys taking my call.
03:55If they lose this game, get what you can for anybody.
03:58I mean, I don't want to say that the season's over,
04:01but, I mean, if someone's going to give you a draft pick for Diggs or Sanders still,
04:05I mean, at that point, Adam Peters, it's a no-brainer.
04:07But here's the name.
04:08If they win this game, I would call San Francisco,
04:12and I would say, what do you want for Brandon Ayoub?
04:14I know, you know, he just reinstated.
04:17You know, he got an agent not long ago.
04:20You know, you really haven't heard a lot about Brandon Ayoub, you know,
04:24since, you know, the summer.
04:26And there's a lot of guys playing that have done a lot worse than him in the NFL.
04:30So, you talk about the stress asset.
04:32I know you guys have been talking about Brian Thomas Jr.,
04:34but I would not give up on a Brandon Ayoub comeback.
04:39He still follows the commanders on Instagram.
04:41His last post was on October 16th.
04:43So, if he wants to come back and his head's straight,
04:45there's a distressed asset right there.
04:46So, you just said if he wants to come back and if his head is straight.
04:50But let me ask you one question.
04:52Your prerequisite is to follow somebody on social media.
04:56He hasn't played in two years either, right?
05:00He hasn't played in two years, but if he's shown he wants to come back.
05:02See, you're going with a lot of ifs right now, bro.
05:04You don't know that.
05:05So, why would you not want to jump at people that are actually playing right now?
05:12I'm just saying if it's a distressed asset, it's something to think about.
05:15That is an incredibly distressed asset.
05:18I appreciate the call, Blake.
05:20I'm just saying.
05:21I know.
05:22I know.
05:22You know what's wild to me?
05:24Live Golf just died, right?
05:26Live Golf is dead.
05:27For everybody that said it would never happen, whatever, it's dead.
05:31But there are these people that remain these ardent Live Golf supporters.
05:34It became a political party to them.
05:36Like, they're embedded with Live Golf.
05:39There are people still embedded with Brandon Aiyuk.
05:42Like, that is their guy for whatever reason because he posted a video with a Redskins hat.
05:45I don't know.
05:47I cannot imagine a scenario where Aiyuk ends up here.
05:53But, hell, even when we did the percentages of it the other day, we didn't say zero.
05:57I think we both said 1% chance, right?
06:00Yeah.
06:00Yeah, yeah.
06:02Stallion, I just dropped that George Kittle audio in.
06:04It'd be funny to play that.
06:07First step, we got to see if Aiyuk actually goes to the Niners facility this afternoon.
06:13Right now, it's 8, 10 in the morning in San Francisco.
06:15He's not going to be out there until 3 o'clock their time, 6 o'clock our time.
06:20Let's see what happens there.
06:22Adam Peters, though, I want to give him credit.
06:24Like, I do not – unfortunately, professional sports often operate with the notion of self-preservation.
06:31You see this across all sports.
06:34This is not specific to the NFL, but it happens in the NFL where leadership knows things are going bad
06:41and they make a move just to make it look better.
06:45It is not an attempt at chasing a type – like, to me, the trade deadline should generally be used
06:51for two things.
06:53You're a good team.
06:54You think one player can make you a great team.
06:57We saw the Bears just do that with Jeffrey Simmons.
06:59The most famous example, I think when the NFL trade deadline really kind of hit the turbo button,
07:04when things started to change, November 1, 2021, the Rams sent a second and a third to Denver to acquire
07:12Von Miller.
07:13Three months after that, Von Miller had two sacks and a Super Bowl win.
07:17Like, that's the trade deadline.
07:19Yeah.
07:19We think we're good.
07:20We're going to go get this guy to win a ring.
07:22That's what the Bears just did.
07:23That's what the Niners did in some capacity with Buckner, even if it's like what the Seahawks did to acquire
07:30Quentin Nelson.
07:31Those are teams that think they are real contenders that are adding pieces to help them chase rings.
07:36That's what the trade deadline should function as.
07:38The other side of that coin, especially with them moving it back a week, if you know you're bad, be
07:44bad.
07:45Yeah.
07:45Send those guys away.
07:46Build for the future.
07:48In between those extremes, it's a lot harder to validate a ton of movement.
07:54And Adam Peters, to his credit this morning, said we can't be reactionary to what happened Sunday.
08:00Is that true?
08:07This last week, you know, I don't think the results of our game aren't going to dictate what we do.
08:11You know, it's just a matter of if it's a move that we think is the right move for our
08:15team and it's a good value, then we'll do it, whether it's, you know, buying or selling, as they say.
08:21But, you know, it's not, what happens on Sunday doesn't really dictate what we're going to be doing moving forward.
08:28I believe Adam Peters, and I agree with Adam Peters.
08:31That was Peters on with the junks this morning, by the way.
08:35Sunday can't be the determining factor.
08:38If the Giants game was this week, like if you swap these games and they had the Rams on a
08:42Thursday night and the Giants this weekend, and they beat the Giants, and then all of a sudden you're tied
08:47for first or however the math would work out, maybe that can impact you.
08:51But I don't think this Rams game can be the deciding impact.
08:55Not just the Rams game itself.
08:57I also, I don't know if you agree with this, B, winning the NFC East this year, you're probably talking
09:07nine wins.
09:08Maybe it's eight, maybe it's ten.
09:09Maybe the Giants get red hot and get to 13.
09:11Who knows, right?
09:13But I don't think chasing an NFC East title this year should be the driving force to acquire more players
09:22anyway.
09:22You've got to maintain a big-picture vision.
09:26Now, the only caveat to that, in my opinion, is there is a school of thought Jaden Daniels is on
09:33a rookie contract.
09:34And while he's on that rookie contract, and we've seen Jaden's ability to get absolutely blistering red hot, you should
09:42chase every lottery ticket of Jaden Daniels in the playoffs, particularly while he's on the rookie deal, while you can.
09:50I don't necessarily agree with that.
09:51I think you build for the long haul.
09:53I think Jaden's going to be here for the long haul.
09:55But I can at least wrap my brain around the theory there.
09:59You have to help him, though.
10:00I mean, I understand he can get hot and start doing stuff.
10:05But as I keep saying, he can't do a damn thing by himself.
10:08And you've got to improve the stuff around him.
10:10And that'll make his job easier to be able to do that.
10:13If he's got to lift everybody up, that's a hell of a toll to be bearing.
10:21You know what I mean?
10:22So if they improve the team while he's on a rookie, even if he gets paid, you still got to
10:29get better players around him.
10:31And I want people to understand, better players don't always mean top dollar.
10:37You got to get better in your scouting department.
10:38You got to get better at picking people.
10:40Because we watch a lot of teams with quarterbacks that's making money.
10:44And they're still winning games.
10:47So you got to find a way.
10:50Let's let the folks on the phones weigh in.
10:52My guy Shane is in Fairfax.
10:54What's up, Shane?
10:55What's up, Alleyers?
10:56How you guys doing today?
10:58Doing good, man.
10:59We are good.
11:00I got to tell you, Alleyers, I'm sitting in my sauna.
11:05And it's money, dude.
11:06I got to say, they hooked me up.
11:07And I appreciate it.
11:09So it's money.
11:10Love that.
11:11We're working on it at the Finley house.
11:13It's in progress.
11:13Yeah, it's money, dude.
11:14Hopefully you get yours soon.
11:15But anyway, I'm not calling about a song.
11:18I'm calling about that last caller.
11:20Look, we'll be talking about Brandon Ayuk.
11:22Like, this man ain't played in two years.
11:24And when he played here, they have one good year.
11:26It's not like Jerry Rice or Megatron is coming out of retirement.
11:30Like, can we get past the Brandon Ayuk in this area?
11:34He's not coming here.
11:35And if he does, that just shows you how poor Adam is because just like a couple of weeks
11:41ago, this man is posting videos on how fast he's going around the stadium.
11:46Now, come on, man.
11:47What are we doing?
11:48We need professionals.
11:49This man walked away from $25 million, too.
11:52That's enough said.
11:53But no, I don't think they should do anything in the trade.
11:55I really think they should stay where it is, try to win the division with what they have,
12:00and then go off the offseason.
12:02Let's call it what it is.
12:03You need digs right now.
12:04Even if you get these, you need these players to survive the season.
12:09If you trade the assets.
12:10I appreciate you, Shane.
12:11And then if you don't care, I don't care.
12:13And I'll turn my season tickets in today.
12:15Appreciate you, bud.
12:16All right, man.
12:16Enjoy the sauna.
12:20I don't think you move digs, but he is a piece.
12:25We had the people calling in earlier in the week about Marcus.
12:28Like, he is a piece.
12:30To me, you don't move either of those guys because at some point, I remember many years
12:40ago talking with a buddy of mine.
12:42It was when I was backpacking.
12:43We were in Rome, right?
12:44And I wanted to go see the Vatican, and one of my dear friends, Kevin Lanix, is a Jewish
12:50dude.
12:50And he's like, really?
12:52Like, does it really matter?
12:53And I'm like, that's why they call it faith, right?
12:56Like, you're believing in something that is unseeable.
13:01It's just a belief, right?
13:02Yeah.
13:03At some point, you have to question what you believe in this team.
13:06And the biggest question, if they are capable of playing complete games, which we have not
13:13seen.
13:14We haven't seen it yet.
13:15If they are capable of that, let's not even have the argument about if they're capable.
13:24But assuming they are, are they good enough to beat some teams?
13:29Because if you believe they are, and it's a belief because they haven't shown it to you,
13:33but if you believe they are capable of beating the Rams, if you believe they are capable of
13:38beating the Bears or the Lions, then you can't trade Diggs away.
13:43Maybe you don't have to add because you believe in the group they've got.
13:47I do think Quinn and Peters, to some level, believe in the group they've got.
13:51But that's the biggest question.
13:53Yeah.
13:53Are they actually good?
13:54Can they be good?
13:55That's the thing about it.
13:56Like, I keep, my mind, I believe if they can play four quarters, they can play with anybody
14:01in this league, they can probably beat them too.
14:03So, whoever is at the reins has to find a way to get them to the finish line.
14:11You know, we watch some jockeys who just hold the reins and let the horse do it themselves,
14:15and other ones have to beat their ass.
14:18You got to find out what works, what it takes to get this team, this group, to come out the
14:23locker room ready to go, go back into it at halftime and come out again in the third
14:27and be just as fired up as they were in the beginning of the game.
14:31It hasn't happened completely this year.
14:33So, we got to see if that, but if once it happens, I believe they get a taste of that,
14:39they'll figure out how to keep doing it.
14:41If you're on hold, stay there.
14:43It's B. Mitchell Finley talking NFL trade deadline.
14:45Listen, they play the Rams on Sunday.
14:47Trade deadline is Tuesday.
14:49Lot going on in the NFL world.
