The schedule release isn't until later this week, but do we already have an idea of some of the Commanders' games for next season?
Transcript
00:01Listen, obviously there's so much excitement surrounding the Wiz
00:04getting the number one overall pick,
00:06but we also have kind of the excitement of the NFL schedule release.
00:10We know now it's going to come Thursday night.
00:14The international games are going to get announced Wednesday.
00:18Let's go.
00:18We got a little bit of news this morning, I want to say.
00:23The opening weekend Sunday night game,
00:27which seems to happen damn near every year,
00:31is going to be Cowboys-Giants, September 13th in New York.
00:38They're already hyping.
00:39The promo for it already has Dak versus Dart.
00:43Oh, boy.
00:45I feel like the last couple years we've had this,
00:48I feel like they've had this game a ton as the Sunday night opener,
00:51and I feel like the Cowboys have just kicked the Giants' ass.
00:55Maybe I'm misremembering, but I feel like that's happened a few times in a row.
01:00Probably will happen again.
01:03Now, for Commanders fans, now you know they're not going to be playing the Cowboys
01:07or the Giants in the opener.
01:09My guess is Washington is a Sunday 1 o'clock opener.
01:12I don't know if that's on the road or at home,
01:15but it's going to be a lot of fun.
01:18A couple things we do know,
01:20the Wednesday opener is going to be Seattle.
01:25The season will end January 10th,
01:28is the final day of the regular season.
01:30And, you know, as we get closer, stuff's going to leak out.
01:34One very interesting thing.
01:36Brian, you and I have both kind of been told
01:40or at least heard that the Commanders' London game
01:45would be October 4th, the first Sunday of October.
01:48Somewhere around October, that's what I hear.
01:50In October.
01:51So, over the weekend, there's a devoted Burgundy and Gold fan
01:56who currently lives in Ireland named Tony Wheat.
01:59I want to credit Tony.
02:00He's a good guy, too.
02:03Tony sent me this thing from a British company
02:07that does, like, tickets and packages and stuff.
02:13Events Hospitality.
02:14And this is a very legitimate British ticket hospitality lifestyle company, right?
02:19Where they offer packages and all sorts of stuff.
02:23They already have, for sale,
02:26packages to watch the Commanders on October 4th.
02:30Okay.
02:31Now, maybe they have said...
02:32This is funny.
02:34They pulled it down.
02:35Well, I tweeted this out over the weekend,
02:38and it gathered some steam.
02:41And I felt comfortable tweeting it out
02:42because I'm not reporting it.
02:44That's Events Hospitality's putting this on their website.
02:46They have since pulled the dates off,
02:49which, take what you want from that.
02:51Mm-hmm.
02:52And I feel like, what the hell are y'all doing?
02:53Probably.
02:54We told y'all, wait.
02:56Whether the NFL had to call Tottenham,
02:58or Tottenham saw it,
02:59and then they called him,
02:59whatever happened, it...
03:01We won't give you any tickets.
03:04But what I find really interesting,
03:08when they had the tickets on their website,
03:11when they had the dates on their website,
03:13they not only had the Commanders playing October 4th,
03:18they had the Jaguars playing October 11th.
03:21And if you're running through the schedule,
03:23the Commanders, we know,
03:24are going to play a home game in London.
03:27Yeah.
03:28Presumably...
03:29On October 4th.
03:30We think, what we know is,
03:33they're playing a home game in London.
03:34I'm just saying,
03:37what hospitality just told us.
03:39Right.
03:41So, my gut,
03:42and I don't know this,
03:44says they're going to end up playing
03:45either the Colts or the Texans in London.
03:48Mm-hmm.
03:49One of those AFC South teams
03:50that are scheduled to come to Washington,
03:52they might be making a longer flight over the Atlantic.
03:56Washington also,
03:57we know this,
03:58this is a known,
03:59Washington plays at Jacksonville this year.
04:02Yeah.
04:02The Commanders play the Jaguars
04:04in a Jaguars home game.
04:06And the Jaguars have a home game in London.
04:08Well, the Jaguars have two home games in London.
04:10Yeah.
04:10Always now.
04:11But the Jaguars have a home game in London.
04:16According to Events Hospitality,
04:17who has now taken this down off their website,
04:19but they had the Jaguars playing...
04:21October 11th.
04:22October 11th.
04:23Okay.
04:24When we were in Madrid,
04:27I told you a fan told me then
04:30that we were going to have two games in London.
04:34Remember that?
04:35Yeah.
04:35So my question is,
04:39but mysteriously,
04:40I used to get these little things all the time from AT&T,
04:44and then they'll pull it down,
04:46and then two, three weeks or months later,
04:50it'll pop up again.
04:52Are they making mistakes
04:53and sending stuff to people
04:54and it's getting out?
04:58As a football player
05:00and understanding the scope
05:02of the NBA's quest for world dominance,
05:05I'm sorry,
05:05the NFL's quest for world dominance,
05:07frankly,
05:10what do you think about them
05:11having to stay a week in London?
05:13Because presumably,
05:14why you would do that
05:15is so we got back-to-back games,
05:16only traveling once,
05:18and then probably a bye week after,
05:20presumably.
05:21I would like it.
05:23I would look forward to it
05:24because if I'm already there,
05:27and let's be real,
05:29everything's on the team anyway,
05:31for the most part.
05:32You know,
05:33you're feeding me,
05:34you're housing me,
05:35I'm cool with that,
05:36and I hit you with one other.
05:39One thing we like about this team
05:40and we notice about this team,
05:42when they all together
05:42and they got to depend on each other,
05:44they come close together
05:45and they seem to play better.
05:47That,
05:48that's a real thing.
05:49I have no issue with that.
05:50Now,
05:51just think about this,
05:52if they play fly home
05:54and then fly back,
05:55that would be a lot on the body.
05:57I would think they'd stay.
05:58Yeah,
05:58I would rather stay.
06:01Because you can roll in on like a,
06:02since you're there for two weeks,
06:04you roll in on like that Tuesday
06:05or that Wednesday,
06:07practice the rest of the week,
06:08play,
06:08then you're there the rest of the week.
06:10You don't have,
06:10you can just chill.
06:14players do a really good job
06:15of not saying this publicly,
06:18but I've talked to a number of players
06:20about the international games.
06:21They don't like it.
06:21They understand it,
06:23but they don't like it.
06:24I don't know that that impacts
06:27the level of play on Sunday,
06:29right?
06:30Some people,
06:31I just want to,
06:32like things to be the exact same way,
06:34but I guarantee you
06:35that some players that
06:35have no problem with it.
06:37Right.
06:40I don't,
06:40I don't know that it'll happen.
06:42Let's be clear about that.
06:43We don't know any of this.
06:44Now the international games,
06:46I believe get reported
06:48Wednesday morning.
06:49They've done this in the past.
06:51They make us start trying to
06:51piece together the schedule.
06:53Well,
06:53they try to do it.
06:54They do it Wednesday morning,
06:55I think on good morning football.
06:59So assuming that happens,
07:00we'll know
07:01at least one game
07:03of Washington's.
07:04And I think a lot of fans
07:05will probably be booking flights,
07:06all sorts of stuff.
07:07And I think London,
07:09Madrid was,
07:10was really cool
07:11and a great,
07:13interesting opportunity,
07:14but there aren't that many flights,
07:17DC to Madrid.
07:19You can fly to London,
07:20nonstop.
07:21Yeah.
07:22I mean,
07:24seriously,
07:24I bet,
07:25I'm just guessing here,
07:26but I bet from DC
07:27to London,
07:29because London,
07:29I think has four airports
07:30that are kind of
07:31the greater London area.
07:33Let me pull up something for you.
07:34I'm going to,
07:35I'm pulling it.
07:35I got Google flights going right now.
07:37I'm going to look
07:37just hypothetically,
07:39of course,
07:40if anyone's listening
07:42Thursday,
07:43October 1st
07:44to Monday,
07:46October 5th.
07:46So that gets you there
07:47for the game.
07:48I'm just curious
07:49how many nonstop options there are,
07:51because I bet it's a lot.
07:53When is it October?
07:54Yeah.
07:55So I'm looking now
07:58from DC
07:59to London
08:00nonstop.
08:01British Airways
08:03has
08:04four.
08:06So,
08:06I mean,
08:07if you're looking at
08:08Thursday,
08:09October 1st,
08:10typically when you fly to Europe,
08:11you fly overnight.
08:11With the time change,
08:13you arrive
08:13first thing in the morning.
08:14So there's two,
08:15there's four
08:16on British Air,
08:18there's two on United,
08:19and then there's a
08:20Virgin Atlantic Airlines
08:22at 11 o'clock at night.
08:24Jeff,
08:24I don't know if you can fly.
08:25America got a lot of them too.
08:26They don't have
08:27directs from DC,
08:29it seems.
08:30IAD?
08:31I don't see them on mine.
08:33Seven hours and 30 minutes?
08:35Maybe not on that Thursday.
08:37I just looked at
08:38the Saturday or Sunday,
08:39I mean,
08:40the Saturday prior to it.
08:42Right,
08:43I just looked Thursday
08:44to Monday.
08:44But you can get
08:45round trip
08:47nonstop
08:47to London.
08:49The cheapest I see here
08:51is $982
08:52on Virgin Atlantic.
08:54Yes,
08:54I got that on
08:55United as well.
08:57Yeah.
08:58732 on
08:59Iceland Air.
09:00That goes through
09:01Reykjavik.
09:02I made that flight.
09:03That's an interesting flight.
09:05Because
09:05I was flying back
09:07from Paris
09:07with my wife,
09:08we were dead broke,
09:09we flew Iceland Air,
09:10and
09:11we got stuck
09:12in Reykjavik
09:13overnight,
09:13which was
09:14interesting
09:15to say the least.
09:16And we weren't even married,
09:18we weren't even engaged,
09:19we were just dating,
09:20and they put us
09:21in a room.
09:22It was like,
09:23I love Lucy.
09:24It was like we had
09:25two single beds
09:26on opposite sides
09:27of the room.
09:29No time,
09:29make decisions for y'all.
09:30Lord's like,
09:31what is this?
09:31I was like,
09:32I don't know,
09:32but I'm going to sleep.
09:33Because all the time changes.
09:34Just keep your hands
09:35to yourself.
09:37Now,
09:37dude,
09:37if you're okay
09:39with stopping,
09:41you can get there.
09:44I mean,
09:44you can get
09:45Iceland Air
09:46$730.
09:46you stop
09:47in Reykjavik.
09:50But that's not
09:51a bad flight.
09:51You leave at
09:52830 at night,
09:53you get in at noon
09:54the next day,
09:55start saving
09:56your nickels now.
09:59There are a ton
10:00of flight options.
10:02I think
10:03there will be
10:03more Commanders fans
10:04at this
10:05London game
10:06than there were
10:07in Madrid,
10:07and there were
10:08a lot in Madrid.
10:10How do you think
10:11it impacts me
10:13if
10:14they are playing
10:15back-to-back
10:16in London?
10:18How do you think
10:19that impacts
10:20the fan base?
10:21I believe the fans
10:22that are going
10:23are going to stay.
10:24For the whole week?
10:26The London
10:26is expensive.
10:28let me just tell you this.
10:31A lot of the people
10:31that were in Madrid
10:32last year,
10:33they went a week early
10:35and they stayed
10:36a week later.
10:37A lot of them
10:38went to Barcelona.
10:39A lot of them
10:40went to Portugal.
10:42They didn't all
10:42fly back after
10:43their game was over.
10:44So, you know,
10:46let's be real.
10:48And when they
10:48were over there,
10:49they were spending.
10:51So, the people
10:52that are going to go
10:53are going to go
10:54and they're going
10:54to make it into a deal.
10:56I'm sure there'll be
10:57packages and
10:58all sorts of
10:59promotions,
11:00but if you wanted
11:01to go,
11:02say you fly over
11:06the Friday before
11:07and stay to
11:08the Monday
11:09after,
11:10you've got to
11:11be talking
11:13two grand
11:13in hotels.
11:14Yeah.
11:15But,
11:16if you just
11:17decide to go
11:18to London
11:18and hang out
11:19for probably
11:20less than a week,
11:21you're probably
11:21going to pay
11:21two grand
11:22in hotels.
11:23My thought,
11:24we don't get it off,
11:25but does the federal
11:26government still get
11:27Columbus Day off?
11:28Right?
11:29I think that's a
11:29federal holiday.
11:31So,
11:31that's the other thing.
11:32If they do stick
11:34around for that,
11:35if it does break
11:36out that they play
11:37Jacksonville on
11:38October 11th in
11:39London,
11:40that Monday's a
11:41holiday and there's
11:41a lot of government
11:42workers and people
11:43that go on the
11:43government calendar
11:44that would be pretty
11:45darn interesting as
11:47well.
11:48Coming up at noon,
11:49we're going back to
11:49the NBA to talk
11:51about the Wizards
11:52getting the number
11:53one overall pick.
11:55Man,
11:55so much going on.
11:56A lot with these
11:57commanders too.
11:58Nobody go anywhere.
11:59It's B-Mitch.
