00:00We've listened to a variety of diverse voices.
00:03I want to leave you on our special roundtable on the Trumpian world order with my take.
00:09Has the Trumpian world order begun to unravel?
00:12It would be tempting to see the American midterm verdict as the beginning of the end of this Trumpian world
00:18order.
00:19A world that is unstable and uncertain like never before in a very long time, certainly.
00:25But I would be a little bit more cautious.
00:27Yes, American voters have sent Donald Trump a firm message at home.
00:31The sweeping democratic victory with the party winning control of both the House and the Senate
00:35is a significant rebuke to a presidency increasingly defined by disruption, confrontation, polarization, corruption
00:43and an economic agenda that has left many ordinary Americans struggling with the cost of living.
00:49The Iran war and its impact on fuel prices clearly added to the backlash.
00:53But does this mean Trumpism is dead?
00:55I'm afraid far from it.
00:57MAGA remains a formidable political movement.
01:00The endless search for an enemy figure.
01:03And the forces that propelled Donald Trump to power have hardly disappeared.
01:07Nor should we assume that a domestic electoral setback will automatically translate into a change
01:13in America's global posture.
01:15And therefore, the war in Iran could well resume.
01:18Trump still has considerable executive powers, particularly in foreign policy.
01:22And his approach to the world will remain like the man himself, unpredictable.
01:28So by all means, the world should welcome this moment as a reminder that democratic accountability still works
01:34and that imperious presidencies will invite a popular backlash sooner or later.
01:40But let's not confuse a setback for Trump the individual at home with the end of the Trumpian world order
01:46abroad.
01:47The message has been delivered.
01:49Whether it changes the course of contemporary history remains to be seen.
