00:00Coming up on Lloyd and Mandy.
00:04It said Bangkok is the hottest city in the world, which kind of blew my mind.
00:09I have no idea where we're going, down some back alleyway.
00:12As he drove off, they saw my phone sitting on the seat somehow and yelled out.
00:17Now I'm going to head into the sky deck and it looks f***ing high, like ridiculously high.
00:35Man, it's f***ing crowded here.
00:38All of a sudden there's perfume and alcohol and luggage and watches and handbags.
00:43So I don't know what's going on.
00:48What the f*** are we getting out of here?
01:01Run away, run away, run away, into your escape.
01:07Run away, run away, run away, you're never too far to run.
01:12Run away, run away, run away, into your escape.
01:18Run away, run away, run away, run away, run away, run away, run away.
01:31Before we get into the episode, we need to say thank you to Level 8 for sponsoring this
01:34video and making this free content possible.
01:37If you want to live the nomadic lifestyle, you'll need luggage that can keep up with
01:41you on your journey.
01:43That's why we choose Level 8 Luggage.
01:45We've been using Level 8 Luggage for over a year now because like us, they're all about
01:49traveling light and efficiently.
01:51We use these 24 inch check-in suitcases because although they're big enough to fit everything
01:56we need, they're not too big to drag around big cities on adventures or on public transport
02:01such as buses and trains.
02:04Even though our suitcases have flown all over the world with us, they're still in amazing
02:08condition and that's because their luggage is made from high quality materials that are
02:12built to last.
02:13We love how lightweight they are, making them super easy to carry around.
02:17They're also made from waterproof material in case you get caught in a rainstorm which
02:21actually seems to happen a lot to us.
02:23They also have 360 degree spinning wheels which makes it super easy to get through a busy airport,
02:28as well as a lock feature for added security and peace of mind.
02:31They also offer a lifetime warranty on all of their products.
02:35If you're interested in leveling up your luggage game, try Level 8.

02:42Alright, now let's get into the episode.
02:46G'day guys, welcome back to the channel.
02:48I am flying solo here for a couple of days in Bangkok.
02:53Mandy's holding down the fort, back at home, looking after Bear.
02:56I had to come up here for a couple of reasons and I'm just spending two nights up here and
03:02I've decided to give Mandy a little bit of a break from travel and she's at home and speaking
03:07of Mandy, actually we want to give a shout out to everybody who helped make her feel really
03:12special on her 30th birthday a couple of weeks ago, especially the Sundance Day Club in
03:18Hua Hin.
03:18We went and visited there.
03:20I planned a special day for her and as soon as they found out it was her birthday they
03:24gave us like the ultra special treatment, they upgraded us to a private cabana and we
03:30got amazing food, even a birthday cake for her and drinks and basically a private pool to
03:36ourselves.
03:36It might just be our new favourite pool club in Hua Hin.
03:42So if you're heading to Hua Hin anytime soon, go and check it out, Sundance Day Club, we'll
03:46leave the link down below.
04:09So today I'm coming to you from Lumpini Park.
04:13I think it's Lumpini, it could be Lumpini, Lumpini Park here in the middle of Bangkok,
04:19which is actually the first ever public park in Thailand, which was donated by King Rama,
04:26I believe the third.
04:28I did do a little bit of reading about it on my way here and it used to be just
04:33his land,
04:34his own private land.
04:36And then after he died, he left it in his will to give it to the public.
04:40So it became Thailand's first public park.
04:43It's about 142 acres, which is absolutely massive.
04:47It doesn't feel that big when you're here.
04:49There's a track that goes around it, which is about two and a half kilometres long.
04:54So if you're someone who's staying in Bangkok around this area, it's a good place to come
04:58early in the morning for a run.
05:00But during the middle of the day, like right now, it's about 3.30 in the afternoon, I just
05:05got here and it is absolutely ridiculously hot.
05:10Like you have to sit in the shade if you want to walk around the track, it's too hot.
05:13I actually read on the internet just the other day, I saw it on a post somewhere, I can't
05:17remember where, but it said Bangkok is the hottest city in the world, which kind of blew
05:22my mind because I grew up in Australia and Melbourne and Perth, very, very hot cities
05:28in the summer.
05:29Like we get into like mid to high 40s, which I don't think it gets here.
05:33But because of the humidity and because it's just all year round hot, Bangkok is considered
05:39the hottest city in the world, which is crazy.
05:42And today it definitely feels like it.
05:44I'm like dripping sweat just from walking from the entrance to here.
05:48So if you're planning on coming to Lumpini Park, I definitely suggest coming like probably
05:53early morning would be your best bet.
05:56Even late afternoon, it's open from like 6am or 5am till I think 10 o'clock at night.
06:03And it is extremely safe.
06:04It's not like Central Park in New York, you do not have to worry about anything here.
06:08There's actually like cameras and lights everywhere.
06:11So I wouldn't worry about walking around here even after dark, even on your own.
06:17So I'm going to take you for a little bit of a walk around and there's a big man, well
06:22that's actually a couple of man-made lakes and there's signs everywhere to look out for
06:27monitor lizards, which I did know existed in Thailand.
06:31In fact, we saw one in Hua Hin, but I didn't realize that they were so dangerous.
06:36There's signs everywhere saying that they are extremely dangerous and to stay clear.
06:39So obviously the man-made lakes that they've made have become infested with monitor lizards,
06:45which is crazy because there's these like little foot powered boats that everybody's
06:50paddling around on in the lake.
06:53So I don't know if you capsize one of them, you might be in a bit of trouble.
06:56These monitor lizards get to like a couple of meters big and they do look kind of creepy.
07:00I'll see, I'll see if we can find one, but I'm going to take you guys for a walk around
07:05and see what you think because this is one of the places when we spent two months here
07:11in Bangkok that we just talked about visiting all the time and never seemed to make time
07:16to do it.
07:17So I thought I might as well make time to do it now and we'll see how it looks.
07:21know this about what it looks like.
08:01Gotta be completely honest, like while it is nice and it's a really nice escape from
08:07the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, I thought it might be a little bit more well kept.
08:11Like there's bench seats sort of scattered around everywhere and a lot of them are broken
08:17and they just don't look like they've been looked after at all.
08:20The grass is okay, it's pretty good, it's probably not too easy to maintain in this
08:26hot dry climate right now and I imagine even summer when it's raining it probably
08:32just grows like crazy but doesn't seem to be any staff here or maintenance people,
08:38maybe they come at night when it's not so hot which would make sense, I wouldn't
08:43want to work in this heat. But yeah honestly it's not, it's not bad, it's quite
08:48nice but I did kind of expect it to be a little bit nicer.
09:03Well those dudes over there playing like volleyball, I don't know how they do it in this heat, honestly.
09:09I'm sweating tits off in this heat. And they're out there playing volleyball, that's hectic.
09:18So there's a basketball court there, as I said a volleyball court behind me. There's an indoor gym just here,
09:27which looks pretty good actually, that's where I'd be going. And apparently there's a library here,
09:33which was the first ever library in Thailand as well, so there's a bit of history here.
09:41A couple nice tennis courts over here, again I don't know how they do it in the heat.
09:48But you must get acclimatised to it because it doesn't seem to bother them too much.
10:08So this looks like an old music hall but it's been abandoned it looks like. Again it just
10:17doesn't look like it's really been that well maintained. Some old food stores here but
10:25nothing looks open, in fact they look abandoned. Or maybe they're just shut. Strange.
10:44Yeah this looks abandoned to me. I wonder if this was once a really busy area.
11:04You know what, I could be wrong maybe, maybe at night time these places open up but,
11:12because like there is fridges and everything here.
11:22I don't know, hard to figure this one out. Haven't been able to spot any monitor lizards,
11:28unfortunately. I was kind of hoping to find one. Although I wouldn't want to get too close.
11:34I found one that's open. I'm gonna get a cold drink.
11:39Right I did it, I found a cold drink here. I'm gonna head off now though and get out of
11:43this heat
11:44because it's killing me. And I'm gonna head over to the Mahanakon Skywalk, which is the highest
11:51observation deck in Bangkok. It's 300 meters above the ground and it has like a glass bottom floor.
11:58So you actually walk out onto the glass floor, which kind of seems to be creepy. But we'll go check
12:03that out and see how that is because that's something I've been wanting to do for a while
12:06and something Mandy definitely didn't want to do with me. She's terrified of heights.
12:10I recently went skydiving for the first time last year. Absolutely shat myself, not gonna lie.
12:16But I don't think this is going to be as scary. However, I could be surprised. I don't know. We'll
12:22see how we go.
12:25Okay, I got a tuk-tuk to the skywalk tower.
12:32Let's go man. It's too hot, huh?
12:37It's still probably a little early to go there because of the heat, but I may be able to
12:44grab a drink somewhere cold before I head up there. We'll see.
13:22I have no idea where we're going down some perk alley way.
13:27You know it's a shortcut.
13:39All right, we're here. This is it.
13:43Thanks bro.
13:46After a massage.
13:53After a massage.
14:11Okay, we made it.
14:13I actually was very close to leaving my phone in the tuk-tuk. We pulled up to a
14:21skywalk building here and I had my phone sitting on the seat and luckily there was a group of people
14:27when I got out and paid. As he drove off, they saw my phone sitting on the seat somehow and
14:32yelled out
14:33and like told me and I had to whistle out to the tuk-tuk driver to stop this close to
14:38losing my phone.
14:39So thank you to those people, whoever you are.
14:42If you ever see this, you probably won't.
14:45I just had a coffee down here. There's a really big food court down at the bottom of the building
14:51and it's got pizza and cafes and sushi, heaps of stuff to eat.
14:58So I just had a little bit of a break from the heat and a coffee and now I'm going
15:03to head into
15:04the skydeck and it looks f***ing high, like ridiculously high. Let's see how we go here.
15:16So
15:29Let's go.
15:56Wow, my ears are actually locked.
15:58We came up so fast.
15:59It took about 15 seconds to get 300 and something meters.
16:05Look how high we are.
16:45Look how high we are.
16:48Look how high we are.
17:22Okay, we're just heading up to the skywalk now.
17:28I didn't realize it was so far.
17:30I would have got the elevator.
17:34It's like 50 steps.
17:37I'm going to get the elevator.
17:37Let's go.
17:37Let's go.
17:49Let's go.
17:58Let's go.
18:22I'm going to go walk on this deck, man it's f***ing crowded here, there's so many people
18:29It's pretty cool though
18:44Okay, I'm heading down now, I didn't stay too long, mostly because there was nowhere to sit, there's so many
18:50people there
18:51I couldn't actually walk onto the glass because you weren't allowed to bring a camera or a phone and I
18:57have two cameras and a phone
18:59And you don't have to bring a bag either so I had nowhere to leave it
19:04So yeah, not really much to do up there
19:08I like the idea of it, I think it would be cool, there's a DJ and like a bar and
19:13some cool places to sit to watch the sunset
19:15But just a few too many people
19:24I'm trying to figure out where the exit is and I feel like I'm at the airport honestly
19:31All of a sudden there's perfume and alcohol and luggage and watches and handbags
19:37I don't know what's going on
19:46What the f*** do I get out of here?
20:02Okay, I finally made it out of that building, my camera actually died as I was on the way out
20:08It's kind of weird though, when you come down you land on like the third or fourth floor
20:13And then you got to get escalators down and you're almost walking through what feels like
20:19An airport duty-free shop or something
20:21There was like booze and tobacco and perfume, handbags, luggage, watches, all the stuff you see like for sale at
20:31the airport
20:32Which I'm not gonna lie, like it's a pretty good business plan because there's probably a lot of people that
20:37go there
20:38On holidays and end up buying some stuff on their way out
20:41All in all, I would say I really like the concept of the experience
20:46Like the rooftop itself and the view is like amazing
20:50You can't get a view like that anywhere else in Bangkok
20:54360 degree views of the city and you're up 300 and something metres, like it's insane
20:59The only issue was that it was very crowded and there was a bar there with a DJ which was
21:06really cool
21:07But there was probably about 40 seats available
21:10And I reckon there had to be 200 to 250 people up there
21:15So getting a seat was damn near impossible
21:17It probably would have been more enjoyable if I was there with Mandy
21:21Because I couldn't actually walk on the glass deck
21:24Because you weren't allowed to take a camera or a phone onto the deck
21:28And I had two cameras and a phone and you're not allowed to bring a bag up there either
21:32And there was like a spot you could leave your stuff
21:35But it was like fully out in the open and there's so many people
21:37It was so crowded, there was no way of me keeping an eye on my things
21:41And I kind of just wasn't willing to risk losing everything
21:44So I didn't get to walk on the actual glass deck
21:47If Mandy was there, it probably would have been better
21:50Because she could have held the camera and everything for me
21:53And we could have taken turns walking on that glass deck
21:57And it probably would have been more fun
21:59Honestly, it probably would have been more fun anyway with her
22:01Because we probably would have stayed for a drink and watched the sunset
22:07But as I said, there was nowhere really to sit
22:11And me being on my own, like if I had gone to get a drink
22:15And then there's nowhere to sit, what am I going to do?
22:17I'm going to stand around on my own
22:19Just watching the sunset would have been kind of weird
22:22But overall, I'd say it's a pretty good experience
22:25I would recommend going and checking it out
22:27It's not too expensive
22:28Like you can get a ticket up there for like 30 bucks
22:31I paid about $40, that's Aussie
22:36And I got free dinner afterwards at the food court across the hall
22:40Which actually, like I got 200 baht worth of like food voucher
22:46And it actually got me a really good dinner
22:48I was really happy with it
22:49So all in all, like I'd say it's a pretty good experience
22:53Maybe it's best to go early in the morning or late afternoon
22:58And go with somebody else
23:00Like if you're going on your own
23:02Definitely makes it a little bit more difficult
23:04And not as enjoyable
23:05But I'll leave the link for it down below in the description
23:09If you guys want to go and check it out for yourself
23:11But for right now, I am absolutely buggered
23:14I caught the bus up here this morning
23:16And walked around Bangkok all day in the heat, sweating
23:21I'm just going to go order something for dinner
23:24And go to bed
23:25I'm staying at this really cool Heritage Hotel
23:29It's called the Ban Tuk Din
23:31Which translates actually to gunpowder factory
23:35It used to be an old gunpowder factory
23:37This place is 125 years old
23:39And its first impressions, it's a really, really cool hotel
23:43It's very old, but it's really nice
23:45It's been really nicely renovated
23:47So in the next video
23:49I'll give you guys a full tour of the hotel
23:51Because there's like a jazz bar and a coffee shop
23:53Downstairs as well connected to it
23:55I think I can actually hear the music now
23:57So stay tuned for that video
