00:00hey guys welcome back to another video if you're watching this chances are you've
00:04probably seen one or two of our videos before but if you are new here and you
00:08enjoy this content please help us out and hit the like and subscribe button
00:11down below so obviously I am recording this solo today as we're about to do a
00:18really big travel day tomorrow and I wanted to get this video out before we
00:21leave Mandy's not feeling too good she's about halfway through her pregnancy now
00:25and she has her ups and downs so I'm giving her the day off today and I'm
00:30filming this video on my own but in today's video I'm gonna be sharing with
00:34you guys some of the worst travel mistakes we've made as full-time
00:39travelers over the last two and a half years and the reason I'm doing that is
00:42because I think a lot of our content gets a little bit misconstrued while we try to
00:48show everything from the ups and downs the positives and negatives as much as
00:53possible sometimes when you watch from the outside looking in it seems like
00:58everything is just perfect and we're just on this non-stop holiday and nothing
01:02ever goes wrong which isn't really the case and I'm sharing this stuff with you
01:07today because hopefully you can learn from our mistakes this isn't to be
01:11negative at all like we look back on all of this and kind of laugh I'm of the
01:15opinion that a mistake is only a bad thing if you don't learn from it as long as
01:19you're learning from it then I think it's a positive so I'm gonna go ahead and
01:23share with you all the top mistakes we've made over the last two and a half
01:27years make sure you stay tuned to the end because this one is quite a crazy
01:32story which I wasn't even sure if I was gonna share this with you guys because
01:36of how crazy it is but I think I will all right let's start off with number one we
01:42actually briefly went into this on a recent video and this happened about six
01:48months ago actually here in Thailand in Hua Hin we were staying in an Airbnb on the
01:53beach for the first month when we got here as we were kind of deciding whether
01:56or not to live here we rented this really nice Airbnb in sort of a service
02:03department complex it was on the beach very good the Airbnb host couldn't have
02:09been any nicer and more welcoming so I do not want to bash this Airbnb at all it
02:16was completely not the host's fault but while we're staying there it was towards the
02:20end of our month I think it was the last few days and we'd built up a little bit
02:24of a rapport with some of the like cleaners and maintenance guys who were
02:29working there and we're saying hello to them like every day as just in passing
02:33like being polite and they're all very very nice so one day we noticed there was
02:38quite a big leak coming from the roof in our bathroom and it was dripping down
02:42onto the floor it was coming through the roof so I didn't want the Airbnb owner to
02:46get any water damage so I let him know that hey there's a leak you may want to
02:50get this looked at like I wasn't complaining at all it's just like you
02:53know trying to help him out and he said no worries I will let the complex
02:57maintenance guys know and they'll come and take a look at it and so a couple of
03:02hours later we actually got a knock on the door as we were just heading out for
03:05lunch we were sort of working all morning filming stuff in this hotel and we're
03:11about to head out for lunch so the two maintenance guys who we already knew asked if
03:15they could come in and take a look at the leak and I said yeah no problems at
03:18all but we are just heading across the road to grab a quick bite to eat we'll
03:22only be gone for 20 minutes or so you can go into the bathroom have a look at the
03:27leak as long as you lock the door behind you should be no problems this was a
03:31one-bedroom unit so we just had all of our computers camera all our like passports
03:39and bags and everything in the bedroom we shut the bedroom door and they brought in
03:43their ladder and started doing their work well I only got about maybe 50 steps
03:48from the Airbnb when I checked my pocket and realized I'd left my wallet back in
03:53the room so I walked back into the room and as I open the door the first thing I
03:58could see was that our bedroom door was open and as I went into the bedroom to get
04:03my wallet one of the maintenance guys was standing there with our camera that I'm
04:08filming this on right now scrolling through all of the content and honestly I
04:13didn't really know what to do or how to react I was stunned I kind of just looked
04:18at him and he you could tell by looking his face he knew he was in trouble and he
04:22put the camera down and I think he was trying to pretend like he was trying to
04:26just turn it off and I said well why did you even have it in the first place and
04:31then I realized why are you even in our bedroom in the first place that's super
04:34weird man so I walked out Mandy was waiting outside luckily she didn't come
04:38in with me because I don't know how she would have reacted honestly but I told
04:42her what happened and we went straight back in and said look guys you have to
04:47leave like we trusted you to be in here and obviously we can't trust you you've
04:52just been going through our stuff who knows what else you might have been doing
04:55and I don't know what they thought they were gonna find on the camera if it was
05:00something perverted it's a super weird thing for somebody to look through your
05:03camera especially when your rooms shut and they just let themselves in and
05:07start going through your stuff it actually felt kind of disgusting and
05:11luckily we were leaving that place a couple of days later I let the owner know
05:15I think the maintenance guy maybe got a talking to but the weirdest part about it
05:19was that just about half an hour later the manager came back with the
05:23maintenance guy and he was hanging his head in shame he knew that he'd done
05:28something wrong and she asked us what time we would like them to come back and
05:34do the work like if we were leaving again and I was quite stunned I was like
05:37they're not coming back into our room I mean this guy just was going through our
05:41stuff I'm surprised he still has a job to be honest not that I wish him to get
05:45fired but like he's not coming back in as bad as that experience was like you know
05:50it made us feel a bit gross for a while but it wasn't the end of the world the
05:53lesson we learned from that was unfortunately although people can seem
05:58trustworthy and very friendly you really never know and it made me start
06:03thinking about all the other times people at hotels and stuff had been into
06:08our room while we're out were they going through a camera were they going
06:11through our bags were they going through our belongings like so from that day on
06:15we've taken a different approach like if we're leaving the room for the day and
06:20somebody's coming to clean everything goes in the safe everything is put away
06:23like we just assume unfortunately that people are going to go through our stuff
06:28which kind of sucks okay our next biggest mistake we made we went to
06:32Vietnam for 30 days and this was right at the beginning of our YouTube travel
06:40content careers I guess you'd call it and we actually traveled all the way from
06:45Ho Chi Minh City up to the north in Hanoi by sleeper buses
06:49we were filming every single day editing and putting out videos one maybe two
06:56three times a week maybe every second or third day so we were really pushing it
07:00hard and that's because our channel was growing and we were finding a lot of
07:04success and it was kind of just we just wanted to keep the ball rolling and I
07:08made the decision that instead of flying back from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh which is
07:13where we were flying out of at the end of the trip we should take a 36 hour train
07:18ride from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City which honestly cost probably the same
07:23amount as a flight but was so much harder we slept two nights on this train I
07:29mean I wouldn't even say we slept properly it was pretty uncomfortable the
07:33reason we did it was because we were in such a work mode of getting content and we
07:40thought it would be a really good video to make and share with you guys the
07:44experience of catching that train in hindsight it really took a lot out of us
07:50and we could have just caught a plane and saved ourselves a lot of time and we
07:55would have felt a lot better once we did get to Ho Chi Minh City I actually ended
07:59up getting pretty sick when we got to Ho Chi Minh I got I don't know what I ate
08:04but my stomach got really sick and I think that was from being run down so the
08:09lesson we learned from that was maybe we need to prioritize our health a little bit
08:13more than just making content to be honest that video didn't even really
08:17like get that many views like we thought it would I think because we saw like
08:22Cara and Nate putting out these train videos we thought everyone wanted to see
08:26that and it was a kind of a good experience but if I was to do that again I
08:31wouldn't suggest getting that train I would have just jumped on a plane okay this
08:35next mistake we made was uh actually looking back on it is actually really funny
08:39but at the time it wasn't too funny it was kind of a shitty experience we had
08:43just spent six months living in Bali and it was our last weekend there and we're
08:49flying out to Thailand over the weekend of a public holiday which we had no idea
08:53was going on now a lot of people in the comments section and DMs were asking us
08:59how the hell we didn't know it was a public holiday I don't know we just didn't
09:02know like I don't look at a calendar we were busy filming up in the mountains for a
09:08whole week before we were due to fly out so I guess we just missed it we didn't
09:12know it was a public holiday I didn't book a hotel for the weekend before we
09:16were flying out in Coota until the last minute so literally like we woke up in an
09:22Airbnb on Saturday morning we were due to fly out Monday the plan was to spend two
09:27nights in Coota and then fly out to Thailand I could barely find anything
09:32available but finally I found a hotel at a reasonable price because everything was
09:37super expensive and we didn't have any money then we were broke so we get in the
09:41taxi and we go to this hotel which when we arrived there is a demolished building
09:46slash construction site like there was literally workers with hard hats doing
09:52like steel work to build this building and I'm like this can't be right taxi
09:56driver gets out and talks to the guy finds out the hotel we had just booked had
10:00been closed for two years now I have no idea how we managed to book a hotel that had
10:06been closed for two years but we did so we got the taxi driver to drop us off at a
10:10Starbucks and I jumped online and went looking for another hotel everything was
10:15super expensive we finally found an Airbnb but we decided okay we're not gonna book
10:21this Airbnb without getting confirmation that it's actually like real and
10:26available and we did it got confirmed our booking got confirmed got in another
10:32taxi a couple hours later went to this hotel which had an Airbnb room in it and
10:38as we went to the front desk they looked at us and said sorry there's been a
10:42mistake there's actually no rooms available we then spent probably four to
10:48five hours driving around Cooter and using the hotel's Wi-Fi that we had now the
10:55second hotel that we'd booked and not been able to stay in using their Wi-Fi to try and
11:00find accommodation we put out a story on Instagram to see if anyone knew of any
11:05hotels that were available because everything was completely packed and it
11:08got to like six o'clock at night and we had nowhere to stay and we started
11:11thinking shit like what are we gonna do it literally got nowhere to stay for like
11:15the next two nights luckily I don't know what happened if there was a
11:19miscommunication or if a room became available but the night shift manager came
11:24on at about six o'clock and she comes up to us and she says hey did you guys want
11:29to
11:29stay here tonight and I'm like yeah that's why we booked a room and why we've
11:34been sitting here for the last five hours and she said okay no worries we got one
11:38for you and then she said it's only available for one night unfortunately and
11:41I said look I've already paid for two nights you confirm my booking we've just
11:47wasted a whole day sitting here because you overbooked this place I'd really
11:52appreciate it if we could stay here the two nights and I don't know what
11:55happened but we ended up staying the two nights and it worked out we got a
11:59refund from a goda but the lesson learned in that one was definitely if
12:04you're traveling keep an eye out for any public holidays and try and book
12:08accommodation in advance we're much more careful with that now where I try to
12:12book accommodation in advance I guess we were just moving so fast at the time
12:16that things happened so quickly and we couldn't keep an eye on everything and we're
12:21really just doing our best but that was a lesson learned okay so looking back to be
12:25completely honest I think a lot of these mistakes we made and these situations we
12:29got ourselves into could have probably been avoided if it wasn't for the language
12:35barrier and a lot of the times that we're in these situations the free apps
12:39that you have on your phone just weren't reliable enough or weren't
12:42available at the time which is why we're happy to introduce the partner of this
12:46video the Vasco translator v4 this little device helps travelers all over the world
12:53break language barriers with over 70 different languages available at your
12:58fingertips with just the click of a button you can communicate freely like
13:02using your local language and it'll translate it instantly on the fly all you
13:07have to do is speak into this little microphone and push a button and it will
13:11translate it into whatever language you said on it can we please have one
13:16chicken pad thai and one omelette with rice
13:33it even has enhanced audio so you can use it in public settings like we even
13:38tried it in a really loud shop and it worked flawlessly can we buy to make our
13:45own
13:53and you don't need to purchase any data or use Wi-Fi for this so this actually
13:58comes with free lifetime data which means you don't need to log on to Wi-Fi to use
14:03it and you don't need to purchase any data pack this will work anywhere in the
14:08world like anywhere any country in the world where there's cell phone reception
14:12this little device will work but translating speech sometimes isn't the only
14:16issue we've run into like sometimes we have to translate signs and writing
14:21especially here in Thailand the language is just so hard to learn how to read and
14:25with the text and picture translation you can do that instantly using one button
14:44this works pretty good even when it's loud in the background translates flawlessly and that photo to
14:50translate feature is epic happens in like two seconds so after using this and based on our experience we
14:57think that the Vasco translator v4 is a super important tool for anybody who's traveling worldwide whether it be for
15:03business or even just for a holiday
15:05if you want to be able to communicate freely in another language and if that's
15:09something that's super important to you then this gadget could definitely be
15:12well worth the investment but don't take our word for it check it out we'll
15:16leave the link down below and you can have a look for yourself if you're
15:20interested in buying this don't forget to use code Mandy 10 because you'll
15:24receive 10% off your purchase at checkout okay this one is uh well I don't want
15:31this to come out wrong but buying an RV in Canada at the time we bought it was
15:36definitely a mistake now I don't know if you guys have seen we did a full RV series
15:40where we bought an RV in Canada and drove it down the whole west I'd say west coast
15:46of the United States we spent five or six months in the RV one of the best
15:51experiences of my life I would hands down do it again except the problem we made a
15:57really big mistake of buying the RV in Canada in March which I thought was
16:03spring Mandy actually grew up in Canada so to be honest I'm kind of putting this
16:08on her a little bit but when we got there it was freezing cold it was actually
16:13still snowing where we were and we went looking for an RV we found an RV but as
16:19soon as we got into it and it was like minus five degrees overnight and then
16:23raining all day and just absolutely terrible weather we got really depressed
16:27and it got really tough like we had our dog with us as well so we had to get up
16:32every morning and walk him in the rain one thing about van life that I think
16:36doesn't really get shared is that it can be such a fun experience and one of the
16:43most freeing things you can do and we plan on doing it again like we're actually
16:47going to do a full van life series in Australia and probably another one in
16:51America but it does depend a lot on the weather if it's super hot and you don't
16:57have air conditioning with which obviously like most fans don't or if
17:01it's pissing down rain and freezing cold that can really make it tough so buying an
17:06RV in Canada and starting a road trip in March while it's still really cold huge
17:12mistake would never do that again if we were ever to do a road trip like that
17:16again in Canada or the United States I'd probably be starting it in at least June
17:21probably July okay this one was one of the toughest moments we actually had
17:27while traveling and it was really just a build-up I think of going too fast working
17:35too much and experiencing burnout we traveled non-stop for about nine months
17:40and we filmed videos almost every day and we edited videos like every second day and
17:48we were doing a weekly podcast as well and on top of that like you're planning all of
17:54your movements and everything's just go go go go go and it was all so new to us and
17:58people kept telling us we were gonna burn out and we thought we weren't we thought
18:01we were fine but the truth is we weren't looking after our health really at all like
18:08work was our priority and at that time we were still drinking alcohol which I think was
18:13one of the biggest reasons that this happened but we left Singapore and got
18:18to Malaysia Kuala Lumpur and started feeling really shitty both of us but we
18:24pushed through it then we flew to the Philippines where we had a month of
18:29travel planned and literally as soon as we landed like we both just crashed and we
18:37couldn't even pick up a camera we felt so bad and we pushed through it we stopped
18:42filming for a few days and rested but then we did a whole series in the
18:46Philippines but we weren't feeling good at all I actually had a little bit of a
18:51motorbike crash or a scooter crash it wasn't anything serious but the scooter
18:56tipped on some mud and it burnt my leg really bad and that was like a couple of
19:02days before we were due to fly to Mexico so Mandy was feeling really really bad her
19:08like vision was blurry and a stomach was just really sick and I don't know why we
19:14had travel insurance and the doctors are really cheap to visit in the Philippines
19:18but we didn't visit a doctor and for some reason I think we had it in our heads and
19:23I believe this is maybe a little bit due to COVID and everything that went on
19:29especially in like Southeast Asia with that we just had this fear of visiting
19:34doctors I'm not sure why but we flew to Mexico and we both got so sick the wound
19:42I had on my leg it got really badly infected to the point where like I mean
19:47I won't go into details but it was really bad I couldn't even walk so I had to drag
19:50myself to a doctor and he basically said look man I'm really glad you came today
19:56because a couple of more days and I don't really know what would have happened
19:58with this this is a really bad infection Mandy actually had to have the doctor come
20:04around to our Airbnb to visit her because she couldn't even make it to the
20:08doctor and she found out she did some blood work and found out that she'd had a
20:13parasite who knows how long she had it for it probably was like over a month
20:17maybe two and had we have just seen doctors earlier we probably would have
20:21been fine and avoided being sick so bad and I think the lesson learned from that
20:27was just like we need to trust doctors like sometimes where you just need to get
20:32over your fear of doctors and we should have we should have gone to the doctor
20:35straight away because our health is the most important thing she got so sick
20:39and I won't go into details of everything that was happening because it's
20:43quite personal but she got so sick that I literally was about to take her to the ER
20:49and I rang our insurance company safety wing to ask them like because we didn't
20:55have much money and I said like if the hospital is gonna charge us a lot of money
20:58like are we gonna be covered are you gonna be able to like help us pay for this
21:02up front I was so worried about it but luckily the doctor who came around was
21:05really really good spoke great English and he sorted her out and but it took like
21:11three or four weeks for both of us to get over that and the lesson learned from that
21:16is obviously go see a doctor early on but don't push yourself too hard like your
21:21health is everything and when when you don't have your health all you want is your
21:26health like money and work and your career and everything seems super
21:30important but as soon as your health goes all you want is to be healthy okay
21:34this next one I'll keep short and sweet it's kind of similar to the last one
21:38actually our first week in Bali we both got dengue fever and honestly like I'll
21:46keep it short because we've mentioned this in so many videos and I don't want to
21:50bang on about it too much but I had no idea how serious dengue fever was and when I
21:56went to the doctor he basically just told me to go and drink a lot of water
21:59and rest and that's what I did for like three days until I got so sick that I
22:05had to get a nurse come around to our Airbnb because I couldn't move and she
22:12gave me IV drips for like ten days Mandy got dengue fever a couple days later
22:17and actually got it even worse than me it was really scary both of our blood
22:21platelets dropped really low and our white blood cells I think like they had
22:27to take blood tests from us every single day for ten days and give us eye drips
22:32IV drips to try and keep us like hydrated and get us healthy again obviously
22:37Mandy got a rash all over her body she couldn't sleep it was terrible it was
22:41the worst worst sickness we've ever had and the reason I think we got it is
22:46because once again we weren't looking after our health we just landed in Bali and
22:49we went out drinking like every night and I even went and did my first jiu-jitsu
22:54class where like I got so dehydrated and what did I do jumped in the pool and
23:02drank a beer straight after and probably drank like five or six beers after that I
23:06got dengue fever straight away after that and I think it was probably related
23:09thing about dengue fever is you can contract it and your symptoms can be very
23:15mild but if your immune system is very low it can be really really bad we really
23:21made the mistake of not looking after our health when we went to Bali oh and
23:25also if you get dengue fever take it very seriously and probably go to the
23:29hospital right away okay our first night in Mexico was again looking back on it
23:35kind of funny but we booked an Airbnb our flight was due to land in Cancun at
23:41around I think 8 or 9 p.m. but it got delayed and our Airbnb and sent us
23:46instructions on how to get into the place but I misread the instructions and
23:51didn't see that you couldn't check in after midnight our flight got delayed and
23:56we got to our Airbnb at about quarter to one in the morning remember this is our
24:02first night ever in Mexico where we were kind of on edge like because we've been
24:08reading all these articles about like shootings and stuff this is in play del
24:11Carmen about recent shootings and gang activity and drugs and violence and look
24:17to be honest Mexico we felt completely safe pretty much the whole time but this
24:22still is a little bit of a kind of scary vibe to Mexico especially one o'clock in
24:26the morning when you're standing on the street with your bags and you can't get
24:30into your Airbnb we got dropped off by our taxi driver and we're ringing the
24:34doorbell I'm trying to like text the owner no response nothing and there's
24:40just like it's completely dark there's street dogs walking around and people
24:45walking past us looking super sketchy so I ended up managing to get a taxi to a
24:51hotel and we stay at the hotel for the night and then the next morning I was
24:55able to get in contact with the Airbnb I tried to get a refund but because their
25:00check-in policy was that you couldn't check in after a certain time I wasn't
25:04able to get a refund and I blame myself for that after that every time we were
25:09flying somewhere I made sure that we were going to be able to check in at any
25:13time even if we had like plane delays or anything like that just to avoid that
25:17sketchy situation that was a creepy situation being stranded on the side of
25:21the road in Mexico okay this is our final one and the one that I wanted you all to
25:27stick around for because this is a super interesting story and something we
25:32haven't shared on our channel everything else that I've mentioned so far you can
25:36actually go back and see that we shared it previously on videos but this one I've
25:41been holding on to for a few reasons because my family's involved and I didn't
25:46want to like publicly name and shame the Airbnb we were staying at at the time I
25:51don't know if I'm gonna name them or not I don't know I don't want to bring too
25:54much negativity to them but basically we recently went to Bali this year in
25:59January for a family get-together we couldn't all get together over
26:04Christmas so we spent January in Bali together and we stayed at this really
26:07great Airbnb which was like a four-bedroom Airbnb there was eight of us
26:12adults plus my nephew and I had a swimming pool we had a super awesome time
26:17like the best family holiday ever the last night of our trip we had like a final
26:22dinner at a restaurant called Santorini which is a Greek restaurant in Canggu
26:28myself and Mandy and my mom and her partner went in one grab and then I think
26:33like my sister and her husband went in another and anyway my brother his wife
26:38and his son who was not even one year old at the time met us there we were sitting
26:45at the table and I could just see the road I saw my brothers grab taxi pull up I
26:52saw him get out I didn't hear anything but I noticed there was a bit of a
26:56commotion going on and it's there was like a bunch of people started sort of
27:00gathering around the car and as I kept looking I thought this is up something
27:05doesn't look right like something's going on over there I'll go check it out I
27:08go to check it out and there's a grab driver with like the green jacket he's
27:12sitting on the curb and he's holding his arm and he's sort of like rocking back
27:17and forth like he's in pain and there's a lot of people just talking and
27:20yelling at each other and like sort of talking to my brother and so his wife
27:25took the baby inside and basically my brother explained that uh they pulled up
27:31to the restaurant the driver pulled up to the curb the restaurant was actually on
27:36like a bit of a bend and my brother hadn't spent much time in Asia at all like
27:43he's been to Bali years ago in Thailand but like he not like us he hasn't spent a
27:47lot of time in Asia he was on the passenger side and he opened his
27:51passenger side door he did look behind him and saw that there was like it was
27:56clear as he's opened his door an oncoming car came in the same came past at the
28:03same time and a grab driver has driven around the corner very fast and he's run
28:09into the door and come off his bike luckily the door and the bike weren't
28:16damaged but the driver was as I said sitting on the side of the road holding
28:19his arm and so uh they were all saying to us look uh they were really getting
28:25quite aggressive actually there ended up being like 10 to 15 grab drivers all sort
28:29of circling us and it got a little bit scary and so they were saying look you got to
28:33go to the hospital um with this guy to like pay for any of his injuries and my
28:39brother said look I understand to be completely honest don't think it was
28:44totally his fault partially his fault maybe I understand that but he said look
28:50I'm happy to go to the hospital with you guys but I'm meant to be on a flight in
28:54like I think it was in like four hours uh back to Canada uh we were literally
28:59going to dinner he had his bags with him and he was catching a taxi straight from
29:04there to the airport to fly back home um and he said look I can't I can't come to
29:10the hospital with you I'm sorry um what can we do we worked it out with the
29:14restaurant manager who's like he's a local obviously and we said what do we do
29:18what do we do in this situation so we gave them uh we agreed on an amount of
29:23money to give them so he could go to the doctor we gave him all of our details our
29:27name passport uh and whatsapp phone number and so my brother goes to the
29:33airport we go home to our villa and then uh my brother's at the airport and he
29:38starts getting messages saying that this guy has a broken arm and he needs surgery
29:42and it's going to cost x amount of dollars it was wasn't cheap it was
29:45something like a thousand dollars and my brother said look um I understand uh but
29:50I'm at the airport right now please just send me like a doctor's you know
29:56certificate x-ray whatever like send me the information and I'll take care of it
30:01like I'm going to take care of it but I'm about to get on a 15 hour flight or
30:06whatever it is back to Canada like a long flight so I guess these grab drivers
30:10they didn't believe my brother they thought he was lying and just trying to
30:14run away from the situation because as I was about to go to bed I started getting
30:19text messages from my brother which he was sending me screenshots of the grab
30:23driver this is the guy that was driving the car saying I'm outside your villa uh we
30:28need to talk to you and he's like I'm not there I can't talk to you I'm literally
30:33about to get on a plane and they started sending really aggressive messages
30:38saying that they were going to hurt us and our family which was kind of scary um
30:43we're just sitting in this villa and I realized holy shit like my whole family's
30:47here and there's I don't know how many guys but they were outside our villa and
30:52they're starting to send threatening messages because they didn't believe my
30:55brother now the problem I had was he's my identical twin if I go out there and
31:00talk to them and say hey look I know I look exactly like my twin brother but I'm
31:05not my twin brother they're not gonna believe me so uh my brother said look just
31:10just send me the details okay I'm gonna be on a plane for the next 15 hours I'm not
31:15like you have my passport um you can make a police report whatever you need to do
31:19like we're not running away he literally sent photos of him at the airport he said
31:25I will we can talk about this tomorrow I can't do anything about this right now
31:30so I texted the security for our Airbnb and said look there's a bunch of guys
31:36supposedly outside our house sending threatening messages I don't want to go
31:40and um confront them because I don't know what I'm going to be facing can you come
31:43and help us out and then um I went to bed because I felt like you know we were
31:49actually flying out the next day I went to bed because I felt like the security
31:53of the Airbnb would take care of it they'd send these guys on their way and it
31:57would all be fine I woke up in the morning and there were a bunch of chairs
32:02stacked up against the front front like entrance door to this villa because
32:08apparently the security let these guys come into the villa and I went into my
32:14mother's room who's 72 years old with flashlights asking for my brother and she
32:21was horrified she was like terrified she didn't know who these people were what
32:26they wanted like she obviously knew about what had happened but like she was
32:30like I can't believe these guys are in my room she didn't know if they were police
32:33which they weren't I woke up and said what's going on and my mum told me the
32:36story and so I messaged the security guys I said hey like what's going on like why
32:42did you let these guys into my villa like I asked you to get them to leave if
32:47anything like if they really wanted to come and like find my brother or whatever
32:52like let's get the police like contact the police and they can see you know what's
32:57going on we didn't see we didn't see any police officers at all the messages kept
33:02coming and kept getting worse and worse I would love to share the messages that
33:07were sent because some of them were actually really disgusting like they were
33:13wishing very bad things on my family and my nephew which really put a bad taste
33:18in my mouth because our intent was never to run away from what had happened at all
33:25it was just bad timing my brother ended up speaking to the motorbike rider and
33:32speaking to a doctor and we found out okay like his arms broken everything this
33:36is what it's gonna cost and he sent him the money like and like he said he would
33:40he never planned on running away from it the way that the guys acted though was
33:45really alarming like I don't know what might have happened had I have gone out and
33:50spoken to these guys and apparently in Bali there's a bit of a different way of
33:55dealing with things like in the neighborhood they have their own policing
33:58system which I didn't know about I think they're called banjar but I would have
34:04just liked for the police to be get involved if anything like when there's an
34:09accident you know the police should be called and maybe we could have figured
34:12everything out there obviously I think the grab driver knew that the
34:16policeman wouldn't help them out at all but anyway it ended up being okay but it
34:22definitely put a bad taste in our mouth and I was kind of disappointed with the
34:26Airbnb security for letting these guys into the room we had a back and forth a
34:32few phone conversations after that and they explained to me that they were just
34:37trying to fix the situation and figure out what was going on but I expressed to
34:42them that it was disappointing that like we thought you know they were there to
34:47make sure that we were safe and they were letting these guys into our villa
34:51especially into my mum's room while she's sleeping without us knowing like we
34:55don't know what these guys are capable of or what they're doing and judging by
34:58the messages that they were sending us I'm not sure if I'm gonna share these on
35:02screen or not because they're pretty horrific if I think if the security had
35:05have known what these guys were saying to us they probably wouldn't have let him in
35:09but everything turned out all right the lesson I learned from that is that nobody
35:14really trusts anybody we didn't necessarily trust the guys that they
35:19weren't just trying to run a scam on us because I know this is something that
35:22happens in Bali and they didn't trust us because they thought we were just trying
35:27to run away from the situation if I could go back in time and do it again I
35:32probably would have gone to the hospital with the guy myself instead of letting my
35:38brother deal with it although it was my brother this last time I was gonna see
35:41my brother in a year so I wanted to have dinner with him but that was probably a
35:45mistake I probably should have gone to the hospital with them myself just to show
35:50them that we never intended on running away from the situation and I think it it all
35:56goes down comes down to trust so yeah that's it I mean that was one of the most
36:04intense encounters we've ever had while traveling and kind of scary so that's it
36:08that's some of the biggest mistakes we've made while traveling and some of the
36:13not-so-great experiences we have I know when we put out video sometimes we can
36:18sugarcoat things and make it look like everything's always perfect but it's not
36:23we try to be as transparent as upfront as possible and share the good with the
36:28bad and hopefully other channels do that as well but I know sometimes from the
36:32outside looking in it can look like everything's just fine and dandy and
36:35perfect when maybe sometimes there are some personal issues going on behind the
36:40scenes that you don't know about anyway I hope you enjoyed this content and
